Peet's Coffee Rwanda Ejo Heza Review

Rwanda Ejo Heza, 16 oz.- Retail Value $19.95

Roast: Dark

Flavor Category: Fruity/Floral

Origin: Africa & Arabia

This month's featured limited release coffee is a dark roast that is harvested by over 300 women that have banded together to farm as a collective in Rwanda. The purchase of this coffee is an investment into this community and the name comes from their chosen name of Ejo Heza, which translates to "bright future." How great is that? From Peet's Coffee:

"The women of Ejo Heza farm with a standard of excellence that has us looking forward to each harvest. This year, the women’s impeccable agronomy practices paired with high altitude and excellent soil have resulted in a jewel of Rwandan coffee: aromas of plum and vanilla mingle with flavors of strawberry jam and butterscotch. And with the premiums we pay going directly to the women who grow it, this is a coffee and story to savor."

On the side of the bag was a label with the roasting date and a "freshest by" date. Something really impressive about this company is that your beans are roasted to order within 24 hours of them shipping to you. The smell was amazing from the second I opened the box and every time I walk into my kitchen I am greeted by the fresh smell!

When you sign up you can choose between 1, 2, or 3 lbs of coffee and you can also select how you would like your coffee beans to arrive to you each month. You can choose whole bean or ground with an option for drip, espresso, press pot/percolator, or commercial brewer.

The label describes this coffee as having "rich red fruits and smooth butterscotch notes." I love a good dark roast and I found that this one was definitely smooth and had just a hint of fruits on the finish. The butterscotch came across as a bit of a nutty taste to me. I take my coffee with just a splash of cream, but this one was so smooth and fresh that drinking it black brought out the best in the flavors!

Spoiler: April's roast will be Organic Honduras Ocotopeque and it will have bright, clean floral notes!

Verdict: I think that Peet's Coffee Explorer Series subscription is so cool! My husband and I love our coffee and while we aren't too incredibly picky about it, we definitely enjoy quality coffee and Peet's totally delivered on that! I love how fresh it is and also that it comes with a great story about its origin, which really adds to the experience. I was definitely impressed and I look forward to drinking more coffee from them!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive April's limited release coffee, but this coffee is available to for purchase on their site.

Value Breakdown: Peet's Coffees sell for $19.95/lb, so at $18/month you're receiving a discount of about 10% plus free shipping.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

If you buy the 2 lb plan are they both the same flavor?

Yes, I believe they would both be the same since they only feature one limited release flavor for their Explorer series each month.
