Two Pink Balloons March 2019 "Dinosaur" Review

This is the parent guide that we received with information on the items in our box. This month's theme is "Dinosaur" and each page provides useful information about how to use the included activities with your child.

On the back, they advertised some of their Spring and Easter projects along with a 15% off coupon. They also gave us a spoiler for next month's theme which is Earth.

Triceratops Reusable Writing Board - Estimated Value $9.00 (based on a similar item found here)

Dry Erase Crayons - Buy 200 for $19.99

The first activity we received was this triceratops coloring page along with two dry erase crayons in yellow and green. The dinosaur is made out of felt, but it is topped with a nice thick piece of vinyl. We have received a different variety of this reusable writing board before and the quality is great! The vinyl is a little tricky to write on at first, but in our guide, it says that the more we use it the easier it will be to write on. I appreciate that they included two dry erase crayons for us to use too although we can easily use dry erase markers as well. This is a good quiet activity and will be such a great one to keep with us for quiet on the go entertainment!

Dinosaur Links Busy Bag - Retail Value $10

How cute are these little dinosaur number cards? They are so simple - laminated paper squares with a small hole punched in the side, but they are the perfect educational busy bag! The idea is to add links to the holes for whatever number is listed. This is great for counting, letter recognition, or even comparing values. Adding the links is also great fine motor practice and playing with them by themselves can be just as fun.

My daughter really enjoyed this activity and I loved that it was all contained in a nice little bag when she was done. This would be great in a math center and this idea could be used with so many different themes other than dinosaurs!

Number Sequencing Stegosaurus Busy Bag

This Stegosaurus is so cute and bright and well-made! I was impressed with the detail on this dinosaur such as all of the embroidered embellishments. Even the numbers on each plate were embroidered. In addition to using them for number sequencing, they also recommended hiding them in the paper from the box for kids to find beforehand.

My daughter was able to complete this number sequencing activity on her own. I noticed that they even made the 6 and the 9 look different from one another, which I appreciate since it can be hard for kids to differentiate between the two sometimes. Although in this case, the plate shape would easily help.

Dinosaur Felt Board Activity Set - Estimated Value $19 (the set I linked to is very similar, but not exactly the same, which is why I am considering this an estimate!)

In your first box, you will receive a felt lap board to go along with various felt activities that you will be sent. I love this vibrant green color to go along with our felt dinosaur pieces. This can be more of a free play activity, or you can use the dinosaurs to tell a story. They also recommended reading a dinosaur story and using these to recreate it. My favorite idea that they suggested was to play hide and seek by putting the pieces inside plastic "dinosaur" eggs and then hiding them around the house. I haven't done this yet, but I know this will be an activity that my kids will want to do over and over again.

My son loves his dinosaurs and can name them all, so he had no trouble getting creative with these pieces right away! I thought they were all cute and detailed and they stuck well to the felt lap board.

Felt Dinosaur Jigsaw Puzzle - Estimated Value $8 (based on this similar item)

This felt dinosaur jigsaw puzzle was so cute, but a little difficult to put together. The back had a nice thin foam layer while the other side had felt with embroidered details. It was incredibly cute and I love that it comes in its own bag. It is well made, but since it is a lightweight puzzle, my daughter got a bit frustrated when the pieces moved around on her. I think once the kids get the hang of it, they will enjoy it a bit more. It definitely appealed to them and my son has been playing with it despite never quite getting it completed on his own just yet!

Verdict: Two Pink Balloons is such a unique subscription with its handcrafted activities. This box theme of Dinosaurs was one that really appealed to my Dino-loving kiddos, too! I thought there was such a great mix of activities that were both educational and creative. I love the idea of quiet activities that can travel with us to occupy the kids and I thought the quality of the items was great. I estimate the total value of the items we received to be around $65 which I think is great for a $42/month + free shipping box full of handmade activities. Handmade activities such as these can get quite pricey and after researching them a bit on Etsy, I think these retail values are pretty comparable, so I definitely feel like the value was there!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Wow, I thought the activites in the box very age appropriate and reusable. Very well curated. I also thought the price per activity was fair.

But I also thought it was pricey monthly subscription box – as in, the total amount spent per month is high. I could see getting it a couple times during the year, but not monthly. I think they would do well to sell it as kits that you could chose from over the course of the year.

This would make a wonderful travel set. Something you pull out when your need the children quiet & self entertained.

I subscribed about a week ago, and they actually do offer sets you can purchase without a subscription. I know that at least two of the things included in this box were also offered as a non-subscription purchase, if that makes sense. My understanding (based on the IG account) is the owner just relocated so her store offerings are limited at the moment, but quickly increasing.
