Darn Good Beads of the Month March 2019 Review

I’ve been receiving Darn Good Beads of the Month for a few months. I know I will get a simple project with instructions that will be easy to complete in under an hour or two, but the projects have been pretty varied:

The package came with this paper, which contained instructions for this month’s project. Lately, they’ve also included some styling suggestions for the finished project. I tend not to have these sorts of wardrobe options (I wear a lot of hot pink and giant floral prints…) but that’s OK, I know my taste is unusual!

This has some silvertone findings and sodalite chips. I am always interested in finding ways to use gemstone chips because I have a large collection of them, and this project gave me some ideas. There were more chips provided than I needed, so although no two are exactly the same, you can make things a bit more symmetrical by selecting beads beforehand, if that’s your thing.

I enjoyed using the teardrop hoop findings, I’d never tried them before but now I may buy some more (I saw them in a Fire Mountain catalog recently so I think they are fairly common).

You would’ve needed pliers (I used round nose but chain nose should also be fine) and probably some wire cutters (the headpins were longer than needed) to complete this, but those are pretty standard items to have on hand for this subscription.

Verdict: I did not calculate a value for Darn Good Beads of the Month because the materials were unbranded/not labeled. I do feel that the physical materials provided were of good quality and included materials that I recognized (like the teardrop hoop findings) and the tools required were not at all unusual.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? This was March’s box and may no longer be available. In general, you’ll get your first box at sign-up and then you’ll move to the regular shipping schedule after that.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $14 (including shipping to the continental US) and you get all the materials to make one jewelry project.

I saw the findings in the Fire Mountain catalog the other day. But my goodness, there is so much stuff on their website I can’t find a link to them now. However, all the materials (earring hooks, sodalite chips, headpins, similar metal beads, and the drop components) should be commercially available if you are so inclined.
