The Mr. Collection Clothing Rental Review + Coupon – February 2019
The Mr. Collection is a monthly clothing rental subscription for men. Your stylist puts a pack together based on your style profile and you keep it for as long as you like. When you are done wearing the pieces, you send them back in the included pre-paid bag. You have the option of buying any item at a special member discount price just in case you can’t bear to part with it.
The Mr. Collection has several different plans to best fit your needs.
This is the review for The Mr. Collection Premium Once a Month plan, which sends 4 items for $69 per month (plus free shipping). Each pack includes 3-4 pieces of quality, designer, casual clothing for your everyday look. When you sign up, you answer questions about your style (size, colors, patterns, clothing type, etc.). An actual stylist puts your pack together so, even though your pieces are a surprise, they should work for you. You can leave feedback for your stylist to help make your next pack even better.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Mr. Collection February 2019 Review
This month, John’s stylist included 4 tops in different styles. Let’s see what he got!
The info card includes a handwritten note from Elena, John’s stylist this month, and some information about how the subscription works. There is also an invoice that shows the member price for each item in case he wanted to purchase anything.
7Diamonds Plaid Button Up – Retail Value $89, Member Price $71.20
I really like his shirt on John. The shades of tan, grey, and brown work really nicely together and look great with jeans. I’m picking up some western vibes because of the mother of pearl buttons. But wait, they aren’t buttons…they’re snaps! John thought that made the cuffs a lot easier to handle when he rolled them up or down. The 100% cotton is crisp and cool and the inside of the cuffs and collar have solid panels of grey for contrast.
Ben Sherman Button Up – Retail Value $79, Member Price $71.20
This Ben Sherman button-up is also 100% cotton but has a more silky feel with less starch. The dark navy is patterned with tiny white Xs and yellow dots that create an optical illusion close up and there is a decorative pleat down the back of the shirt and a brand patch on the front chest pocket. As usual, the details of these higher-end men’s shirts make the difference and I love that they include extra buttons sewn onto the tag so they don’t get lost. John mentioned that this shirt smelled pretty strongly of something scented, which is unusual for the clothes we typically get.
Weatherproof Half Zip Pull Over – Retail Value $48.75, Member Price $43.87
This is the coziest sweater! It’s basically a sweatshirt with a smooth outer and a warm, fuzzy interior made of polyester. But, the half-zip collar makes it look so much more pulled together. I think it fits John so well and I love the heathered dark green on him. I’m impressed with the clean seams and nice construction details especially considering the affordable price. I often see this brand on sale so I’m glad to know that they make good quality products and that John likes how they feel on.
Well + Last Baseball Tee – Retail Value $27, Member Price $24.30
I can’t say I like this baseball style tee on John. I think the biggest issue is the length of the sleeves. They’re 3/4 length which I’m just not used to for men’s clothing. They would have looked better if they were full length and he could push them up. Otherwise, it’s really soft – a 50% poly, 25% cotton, and 25% rayon blend – and I like the emerald green. The fabric feels like it might be the kind to want to pill up after a few washes. But, since John is renting these items, we don’t have to worry about washing, so I’m letting that concern go. 🙂
Each pack includes a pre-paid return envelope. When you are done with your pieces, just pop them in here and drop it off at the post office. The Mr. Collection will process your return and you’ll be ready to go for your next pack. (If you are purchasing anything, just leave them out of your return package.)
A note about cleaning: You don’t have to clean the pieces before sending them back. The Mr. Collection has everything cleaned once the pieces are returned. Usually, everything is fresh and scent-free. This is the first pack we’ve received with an item that had a scent on it.
The Verdict: John’s pack wasn’t as exciting for him this month as they’ve been in the past. He did really love the Weatherproof half-zip and wore it as much as he could. Though he wasn’t in love with the button-ups, he did have a couple of occasions to wear them to. I can’t say he felt great about the 3/4 length sleeves on the baseball tee, but now we know. This pack had a retail value of $243.75, and for a cost of $69 with free shipping, I think it is a great way for John to try nicer brands that he might not otherwise. Plus, The Mr. Collection customer service is fantastic! The stylists are eager to help and I like the notes they include to give some style inspiration and reasons for their choices.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? The Mr. Collection picks clothing for you based on your style preferences so your pack will be different than John’s. Sign up and see what they choose for you!
Value Breakdown: Since this is a clothing rental service, the value really comes from being able to change up and try new, styled looks every month. Since there is no way John would spend this amount to buy clothes at this retail value for himself, it’s great for him to be able to wear high-end clothing for a flat rate. There is always the option to buy an item for a discounted price if you love it. Basically here is what he paid to rent each item for the month (based on retail price):
- 7Diamonds Button Up – $25.19
- Ben Sherman Button Up – $22.36
- Weatherproof Half Zip – $13.80
- Well + Last Baseball Tee – $7.64
