Bulu Box December 2018 Review
There isn’t a theme for Bulu Box and there is some personalization involved, so the contents are usually a surprise:
Because of the variations with this subscription, there’s not a traditional information card listing the items.
There are also usually some coupons and/or product literature with this subscription. They don’t always relate to the items in the box. There was a lot of product literature this month. One piece of product literature was of an adult nature (you will sometimes see things like this in Bulu Box).
Atlas Bar in Vanilla Almond (2.01 oz) – Buy a 12-Bar Variety Pack for $35.85
I feel like I have had one of these before but I don’t remember when. Anyway, I am always happy to get vegetarian protein bars to sample and this one is also pretty low in sugar, which I prefer. This did have a little bit of a tendency to stick in my teeth (some high-whey bars can do that) but overall I was a fan.
Up4 Probiotic Gummies (4 count) – Buy 60 for $15.75
These are vegan so I tried them. They taste all right and I think the prebiotic inulin works pretty well with the overall gummy texture. They do have some sugar although one serving (2 gummies) is relatively low in calories. I can’t say I saw much of a difference with only 4 of these, possibly because I have been eating a lot of yogurt lately, but it is definitely something I would consider in the future if I was looking for a new probiotic.
This item was also in the weight-loss version of Bulu Box this month.
Omax Alpha + Omega Cognitive Boost (20 softgels) – Buy 60 for $49.95
This is 1/3 of the full size so right here, this item covers the full price cost of the box and then some. Unfortunately, these contain fish oil as well as gelatin, so I’ll have to pass them along to someone else. I am going to say, though, that these have a much less scary ingredients list than most “cognitive support” supplements, with a lot of the benefit coming from the fish oil, which of course is perfectly safe and actually good for your cardiovascular system and skin as well.
Purelyft Energy Stick in Orange (0.03 oz) and Purelyft Energy Stick in Original (0.03 oz) – Buy a 5 Stick Variety Pack for $9.99
This is calorie-free (sweetened with stevia, which isn’t my favorite thing in a drink – I find it better in solid foods). It has a green coffee bean extract and some vitamins as well. This is not something I, personally, would try before exercise since I am already on blood pressure medicine, but I took them into my office and tried one out on an afternoon when I was kind of sleepy and it did perk me up. So that is another way to get use out of this item. (It is kind of expensive for me to consider having one every day, but they are good to keep around on days when I need a bit of motivation.) I mostly tasted the stevia, even in the orange one.
Treasure Trove Crunch Sesame and Pumpkin Seed Snacks (2 oz) – Buy an 8-Serving Variety Pack for $9.99
This had a good texture for a seed cracker-type of snack, although the sesame flavor was quite strong and I’m not sure how I feel about that. Still, always happy to get a vegetarian snack and I do like to eat seeds regularly for the healthful fats.
Sparkle Skin Boost Starter Kit (0.6 oz) – Retail Value $10
Collagen supplementation really has proven to be good for skin and hair health, and it’s nice that they provide you with a couple of different flavors here, because what I have heard about collagen drinks is that some of them have unpleasant flavors and here you can decide what works best for you. I will have to pass these along, though, because collagen only comes from animals so this is not a vegetarian item.
This item was also in the weight-loss version of Bulu Box this month.
Nuvital Super Spinach in Peach Mango (1 serving) – Buy 30 Servings for $29.99
This is promoted as an alternative to beet products and as a source of nitrates. I am not sure why you would want to consume extra nitrates as they are associated with negative cardiovascular and other health conditions when consumed in large amounts or when you are otherwise ill. I guess this is supposed to increase blood flow to the muscles and boost performance, especially during weight lifting. I figured it was not bad to try once for taste and I didn’t think it was strongly spinach-flavored or anything (you could always mix it into a smoothie if you wanted to tone it down) but it is probably not something I would consume on a regular basis.
Verdict: This month’s Bulu Box had eight samples, so they’d average about $1.25 each. It should be noted that either the Sparkle product or the Omax supplement on its own is equal to the undiscounted, month-to-month cost of the box. I did appreciate getting two vegetarian snacks and vegan gummies to try, and the Purelyft product came in handy on a sleepy afternoon, and I’d say overall the mix is about what I’ve come to expect from Bulu Box (eight items are a lot for this subscription, though, and you won’t always receive that many).
I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB799 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two.
To Wrap Up:
