Sara Happ The Lip Scrub in Pink Marshmallow, Full-Size! Retail Value $24?

Birchbox lists this tube as being full-sized, but it links back to lip scrubs in a jar rather than one in a tube. I think the product weight is the same, and I think a tube is more sanitary than a jar anyway, but I thought I would point it out. This is great scrub that both exfoliates dry lips while softening and soothing them. I love lip scrubs, and this is a pretty great one.

M·A·C Cosmetics Prep + Prime Fix+, 1 oz – Estimated Value $7.65 (buy the 3.4 oz version for $26)

This is one of the most iconic products from MAC, and rightfully so. It does a great job of both hydrating your skin before you apply makeup and setting your makeup when you’re done. This can also be used to refresh your makeup throughout the day by lightly misting, and I love how long my makeup lasts when I use this as my setting spray.

too cool for school All-in-One Egg Mellow Cream 5-in-1 Firming Moisturizer, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $10.23 (buy the 1.76 oz version for $36)

I don’t know if this moisturizer firms my face like it claims, but I like how multi-use this is- It can be used as a serum, moisturizer, eye cream, or sleeping mask! This is made with egg yolk extract, niacinamide, and collagen, and it absorbed easily into my skin. If using it as a sleeping mask I would recommend applying it on thicker, but overall this is a handy moisturizer to have in your arsenal.

LAQA & Co. B’Lighter Blush + Highlighter in Peacher’s Daughter, 0.1 oz – Estimated Value $11.19 (Buy the full-size version for $17)

This is such a pretty light peach shade with shimmer that it can be used as either a blush or a highlighter. I used a small amount on my cheekbones for a light flush that shone when the light hit, and it is quite pretty.

Stila Cosmetics Stay All Day® Liquid Lipstick in Baci, 0.05 oz – Estimated Value $11 (buy the full-size version for $22)

I like these liquid lipsticks from Stila- they’re near the top in terms of longevity of wear and performance. Baci is described as a nude pink but I almost think it leans grey-lavender on me. It definitely has purple undertones to it, and it goes beautifully with the other shades in this kit.

Love of Color Liquid Shimmer Shadow in Aurora, Full-Size! Retail Value $10

This is a gorgeous lilac purple liquid eyeshadow that is lightweight to wear and didn’t smudge on me. Purple shades like this always make my eyes pop, so this full-size beauty will be used up!

Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Super-Curling & Lifting Mascara, 0.1 oz – Estimated Value $9.28 (Buy the 0.14 oz version for $13)

This is a great curling mascara that I have owned in the full-size version before and liked, so I was happy to see another sample in this kit. This mascara is great for curling and lifting your lashes, and my preferred way to use it is in tandem with the Benefit Badgal Bang mascara for ultimate lift, curl, and volume.

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Eyeliner in Metallic Plum, Full-Size! Estimated Value $5 (linked to other shades)

This is one of those pricings that confuse me because Birchbox sells the full-size eyeliner for $5 but says it's a $16 value. Value aside, I really like this eyeliner. Metallic plum is a purple that plays gorgeously with the other shades included in this kit even though it isn't really metallic, and I had no issues with smearing or smudging.

Here are the swatches. From top to bottom we have the Sara Happ lip scrub (so you can see the texture), the blush, the lipstick, the eyeshadow, and the eyeliner.

beautyblender® micro.mini in Lavender, 1 mini – Estimated Value $9 (buy a pack of 2 for $18)

I love my beauty blender, but I haven’t really used the minis even though I have gotten them in boxes before. This is one fourth the size of the full-size version, so it is better suited for the smaller areas of your face like the corners of your nose and your eyes. This is handy for applying concealer, but it doesn’t really do anything that my original beauty blender can’t.

Here is the look I did using the items in this box. After moisturizing with the too cool for school cream I applied my Nars tinted moisturizer and Benefit Gimme Brow before applying the LOC eyeshadow to my lids. I then lined my lash line with the Cynthia Rowley eyeliner before applying two coats of Benefit’s Roller Lash mascara. I exfoliated my lips with the Sara Happ lip scrub and then applied the Stila lipstick, and then I added a small bit of blush to my cheekbones. I finished by setting my makeup with the MAC setting spray.

Here is my makeup after a great lunch of a shredded beef chimichanga with rice and beans. You go, Baci, you go!

The Verdict: I think Birchbox really did a great job of not only sending high-performing makeup products but also products and shades that coordinated well together. I was able to do a full face of makeup using this kit, and I really loved the end results. Value-wise, Birchbox promised a value of $105. If we go by the $5 list price of the Cynthia Rowley eyeliner, this kit has a value of $97.35. If we go by the $16 listed value of the eyeliner, this kit comes in with a value of $108.35. Either way, I think this is a great kit at a good value for your money.
