Frank And Oak Style Plan Denim, Sweatshirt, & Dress Shirt Review December 2018
When you first sign up for this subscription, you fill out a quick style profile that captures your sizing preferences and your sense of style. (Choose from Casual, Classic, and Creative). Then, you can pick whether you'd like a monthly or a bi-monthly plan and set your budget for each box (under $150 or $150+).
Before your box ships, you get an email inviting you to hop in and preview your order. The page that opens up has about 12 products total on the page. The three products currently set to ship in the order are at the top of the page and marked with green check marks. The top section of the page includes items that have been picked based on your preferences, but recently, Frank and Oak added a "Featured" section at the bottom of the selection page that highlights some new/trending items that you can pick from, as well.
The plan includes three items, which you can curate for yourself or let Frank and Oak choose for you. I actually was SO busy with holiday to-dos that I completely missed my Style Plan email this month! No worries—Frank and Oak used my preferences and sizes to pick three pieces that should suit me just fine. I do really love getting to "shop" my curated selection of styles each month, but I also trust Frank and Oak to pick things I'll actually like.
Here's my invoice.
And here's a note from the Style Plan folks letting me know about an ADDITIONAL 30% off discount I get as a member, now through the holidays. Awesome!
I got a cool freebie this month, too! A simple Frank and Oak tote bag made from lightweight canvas. My tote bag collection knows no bounds—I'm always using them for groceries, books, and other odds and ends. I'm sure this tote will get some good use in my household!
Floral Printed Soft Popover Blouse in Steel Blue, Size Medium - Retail Value $69.50, Member Price $49.50
I was skeptical of the strawberry-red flowers printed across this shirt—I was worried it was a bit too traditional for me. But I actually really like it on. I have another shirt just like this one but plain blue that I got several months ago, and I love it. The polyester fabric is silky and light as a feather. It feels cool and sophisticated on and hangs on my broader shoulders really nicely. I'm a fan!
The Stevie High-Waisted Tapered Jean in Rinsed Black, Size 30 - Retail Value $79.50, Member Price $69.50
This summer, I got this cut of Frank and Oak jeans in light-wash denim. I'm smitten with them. Granted, I call them my Steve Jobs jeans, because they have kind of a high-waisted, 90s-jeans vibe, especially on my shorter silhouette. But I'm digging the look and have found little tweaks to make them really work for me. I love the way the waist nips in just a bit to really accentuate my hips, but I typically cuff the ankles (to get that old-school "pegged jeans" look) to help taper the calves in a little more. (As they are, they have almost a boot-cut fit around my ankles, which I think makes my legs a little stubbier than I'd like.) I'll do the same for this black pair. I love having another pair of black jeans! I have another pair of black Frank and Oak skinny jeans that I wear so often (especially for slightly nicer occasions like happy hours or parties when I want to look cool and polished), so I'm excited to have a second pair in a new cut to play with!
The Vintage Wash Gym Fleece Crewneck in Goji Berry, Size Medium - Retail Value $59.50, Member Price $49.50
I loooove this sweatshirt! It's so simple and classic and should be a perfect low-effort festive statement-maker during the holiday season. It's just a straightforward sweatshirt with raglan sleeves and a close neckline, but the 85% cotton, 15% polyester stretch fabric and effortless (but not totally shapeless) fit really sets it apart. I have another Frank and Oak sweatshirt like this one that I got a few months ago, and I can't tell you how well it's wearing, wash after wash. It's just getting continuously more comfortable. I wear it out and about just as much as I wear it lazing around at home!
Verdict: Hooray for Frank and Oak day! I've become such a fan of this brand and their super-convenient Styling Plan over this past year. The pieces they make are the perfect staples to build my wardrobe around. They're so comfortable, high-quality, and trend-conscious without being so flash-in-the-pan that I don't get more than one or two uses out of them. I can see these jeans, in particular, enduring in my closet long into 2019 and beyond. The top is just the thing for me to hang on to for nice dinners with family or important meetings, and the sweatshirt will no doubt be in regular rotation clear into next summer's evenings.
To Wrap Up:
Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, each box is customized based on your style plan. Under the new $25 styling fee plan, you can log in 2 days before your box ships (you'll get an email alerting you of when it's ready to be previewed) to add or remove items or skip the month altogether. That said, you can still follow the product links above to shop these items for yourself from their site catalog!
New Deal: Use this link to get your first box with no styling fee!
Value Breakdown: The retail price for the three items I received this month is $208.50. But the member price drops that cost down to $168.50. If I decide to return all the items, I will pay the $25 styling fee and will be refunded the remaining amount, but I can keep any one item at the discounted price and no styling fee will be charged.
