California Found November 2018 Review

California Found Subscription Box Review November 2018 - booklet Top

Instead of a booklet or pamphlet, California Founds sends these really cool info cards for each product. They are very nice quality and informative. It also points out that they donate 10% of their profit every month to a charitable cause, and this month the donation went to help the California wildfire efforts (no specific organization named, understandably). Also, the little band holding the cards together is embedded with wildflower seeds, so it’s plantable! So awesome! And finally, they have added a Golden Ticket contest – so if you find one in your sizzle, you get a free box for yourself or a friend!

The Logan Bag by MidiQueen – Retail Value $38

This is the third bag I have received from MidiQueen in a California Found box, and I could not be happier! These bags are exactly my aesthetic. This is an oversized makeup bag, and it’s super functional as well as super cool. The inside of the top has elastics to hold my brushes in place, and it’s so roomy! I also really like the retro upholstery fabric they used, in an awesome fall palette, no less! MidiQueen is located in Ventura, California.

Handmade Greeting Cards by The Wee Tree Co. – Retail Value $9.50

Look at these tiny, pretty holiday cards! They are so nice, and I like that they are appropriate to send to anyone. I know just who to send these to! These cards are handmade by Rosalind Bell in Los Angeles.

YAS QUEEN Shimmer Body Oil in Rose Gold by Belle & Beast Organics – Retail Value $32.50

This body oil is so luxurious! I am pretty cautious when it comes to putting sparkle on my skin, but the shimmer in this body oil is very subtle, as you can (barely) see in the picture. I put some on my legs and it kind of looks like I’m wearing a pair of old-school stockings – that’s how subtle it is. It’s also full of great, hydrating ingredients like organic sunflower and apricot seed oils. Belle & Beast Organics has a really cool online shop where they sell bath and beauty products for both belles and beasts! Their physical presence is in Pasadena, California.

California Found Subscription Box Review November 2018 - Candle in Glass With Card TopCalifornia Found Subscription Box Review November 2018 - Candle in Glass Front

Candle in Glass (10 oz) by The Hundredth Acre – Retail Value $25

Over the summer I received a candle from The Hundredth Acre that was ocean scented, and now I have this spruce & cedar scented candle just in time for the holidays! It smells so amazing! The Hundredth Acre, out of Laguna Beach, CA, is the shop of candle maker Robert Brink. The candles all have a literary theme as he believes scents are an essential component to storytelling. The candles are also 100% soy wax and come in a lovely recyclable glass container.

Butter Crunch, 2 x 2 oz packs by p.o.p. candy – Retail Value $12

Yes, I did try both of these flavors, and then I had to immediately hand them to my husband and kids before I ate both of the bags myself. This candy is sooooo gooood y’all. California Found sent me some of their candy before in different flavors, and it is seriously addictive. This time I got Brown Sugar & Cinnamon as well as Rum Y Vanilla, and they were both delicious, but I think I preferred the Rum Y Vanilla. I also like that they are made of all natural ingredients that I can easily identify. I almost can’t believe that they are based out of Santa Monica, California – everyone there is so fitness oriented! But p.o.p. candy is surely a worthwhile treat!

14kt Gold-Dipped Recycled Pewter Hammered Thin Coff by Jesse and Co. – Retail Value $34

Say hello to my new favorite bracelet! I think at least four of the artisans featured in this month’s California Found have been featured before but with goodies this awesome, who cares, really? I have received at least one piece from Jesse and Co. before, and I’m thinking it might be two, but they have all been gorgeous! There’s not much more I can tell you about this beautiful bracelet that’s not in the title or the picture, except that like all of Felice Jacobson’s jewelry, it is handcrafted. She is based out of San Diego, California.

The Verdict: California Found has become one of my favorite subscription boxes! This was an especially awesome box! So much so that I can’t really pick a favorite, even the snack was amazing! The value of everything adds up to a whopping $151, which is way more than the promised value of $90, and the box costs only $49!!!

  1. I got this box and I love it! My makeup bag is the Sangria Chevy Love pattern, and it is beautiful! The candle smells so nice and perfect for the holiday season. There were so many items I was pleasantly surprised!

    • Thanks Kelly, so happy you’re enjoying!

  2. I loved every single item in this box. In my opinion it was very well curated. Customer service should always be a priority in any subscription and I believe this one has it right. The owner is sincere and so great. She answers any questions very promptly. I’m from the central coast of California and recently moved to Oregon (which is beautiful as well). I miss home every day but this box gives me a little bit of home and I love it ❤️

    • One of my dearest friends is in Bend! Thanks for the kind words Aileen! So happy you’re happy!

  3. This was my first box. I’ve been subbing to various boxes now for about 5 years, and always have numerous subs going at any one time. But THIS BOX is probably the best of any I’ve received!!

I could easily imagine purchasing items from the companies included. Most urgently, I need more of the rummy vanilla!

I can’t wait to see what’s included next month.

    • That is the nicest! Thank you! p.o.p. candy … super addictive … we love every single flavor but the rum y vanilla happens to be the maker’s favorite!

  4. This was my fourth California Found box. I was a bit underwhelmed with the first three and was starting to wonder if I’d subscribed too late and had missed the box’s glory days. However, I am really happy with this November box. Thanks for restoring my faith in you, California Found!

    • Happy to restore the faith! Thanks for the kind words!

  5. This is their 1 year anniversary box so all of the items were from previous artisans.

I ordered this box last minute when they revealed the hundredth acre spoiler. So glad I got it before it sold out. I love the makeup bag. Mine is mod dots fabric. I really like that the bracelet is weightless on my wrist.

I was actually disappointed in the shimmer body oil. I have tried it at 5 times now and I can’t even tell I’m wearing it. I’ll still use it as it feels nice on the skin but I do wish the shimmer showed up on my skin.

  6. There are so many great artisans in California, I find it a little disappointing that they have consistent repeats. Perhaps they are contracted for so many boxes or something. Perhaps instead of California Found it should be California Collaboration between a few artisans? The items are nice, even if I do feel their prices are inflated….heck folks are trying to live the dream with California housing prices. (I live in the bay area and it is out of control the cost of living.)

    • It’s their one year anniversary with items from “fan favorite” makers. I’ll happily take repeats as all of these items are of excellent quality!! I have no problem paying the regular price of each item as I have purchased a few items directly from makers that I have discovered from this box. All of which have provided superb customer service.

  7. I love this box! They have great customer service as well. The bag I received has a really fun retro looking big dot pattern in black and gray. Anna, you exhibited much better self control than I did…I ate both packages of the candy myself (oops 😉 )…it was buttery and delicious!

    • Thank you! I can get through a bag of p.o.p. candy (or two) no problem. You are not alone! 🙂

  8. This was an awesome box!! I loved everything and Beth, the owner, is the sweetest. ❤️ California Found. Hands down, the best sub box ever. Keep up the great work and curation!!

    • Thanks, Ashley! Working hard to keep the awesomeness coming!! 🙂

  9. I grabbed my body oil with pool hands ( damp not soaking at all) and the label smeared off all over my hands, i took it inside and washed my hands and the bottle was all smeared and gross so i ran it under the sink and the ink just completely washed away, any type of moisture or oil and the label is gonna smear everywhere 🙁 But it did smell good and made my skin super soft, but a horrible packaging flaw. I loved my box though.

    • Oh dear. I’m so glad I saw this. Will definitely share with the maker. Glad you love the box, though!

  10. I’m really liking this sub. Everything is always great quality and unique. The makeup case is beautiful. Since I already have numerous makeup bags, I’m using it to store other things. The only miss for me this month is the bracelet. It’s pretty big and even after squeezing it a bit, it still falls off easily.
