Rocksbox is a designer jewelry styling and renting service. Members pay a flat rate every month to get unlimited access to the Rocksbox collection and the option to buy the pieces they love most at a discounted price.

rocksbox rental jewelry unboxing experience

Upon subscribing, you'll take a "style survey," so Rocksbox can suggest jewelry pieces that fit your style. You can also browse their catalog and add pieces to your wish list. Each month, Rocksbox will curate sets of three pieces to send your way, including at least one piece from your wishlist. I've been leaving my list empty so that Rocksbox can do all the picking for me.

Try on the items in the box, and wear them as long as you'd like. From there, you have two choices. If you love any of the pieces enough to want to keep them, you can put your monthly "Shine Credit" towards your purchase.

Or, if you're ready for another style, return your box using the free shipping label and reusable envelope you got with your shipment. Shortly after, you'll get a brand new box of jewelry to enjoy!

rocksbox rental jewelry time to shine booklet

rocksbox rental jewelry how it works

Here's the info booklet that came with my jewelry set. It outlines the piece I got, notes which ones are items from my wishlist (specific pieces I told Rocksbox that I eventually wanted to try), and the value of each item. There's also a short note from my stylist about the items she picked.

Perry Street Lyla Hoops in Mother of Pearl - Retail Value $45.00, Member Price $38.00

I've been seeing hoop earrings like these more and more. (Let's face it—on folks in my Instagram feed!) I was eager to try them for myself, so I added this pair to my wishlist. They're light as a feather, and I like the way the pearly, inside-of-a-seashell finish catches the light. (It's more interesting and eye-catching than a flat white plastic hoop would be.)

Kate Spade Out West Cat Ear Bracelet - Retail Value $58.00

I'm one smitten kitten when it comes to this gold bracelet! I love that it's a little bit quirky, but still chic and polished as ever. That makes sense, given that it's Kate Spade—I've long been a fan of their unconventional take on ladylike looks. The bangle has a little chain link on the back, which doesn't seem super functional. (I feel like the bracelet could've been a metal band and been perfectly secure and stylish.) Also, you'll notice with this one that there was only a member price listed, meaning I wouldn't be getting a discounted price for this bracelet if I bought it through Rocksbox. That said, I WOULD still be able to put any credit I have towards the price.

rocksbox rental jewelry long pearl pendant

Perry Street Kelly Pendant in Mother of Pearl - Retail Value $55.00, Member Price $46.00

The last item in the box is this white and gold pendant. I like that Rocksbox tries to give you three pieces that coordinate with one another, so that you can wear them together or separately. This necklace looks fab with the mother of pearl earrings and of course matches the simple gold bracelet. I love me a long pendant, though I admittedly don't own a ton of them. It's just so easy to toss it over your head and go!

The Verdict: As usual, I love the mix of control and surprise that I get with my Rocksbox subscription. I can use their wishlist tool to tell them specific items that I love, and I can get at least one of those wishlist picks in each box. (In this box, I got two!) And the rest, I can trust the Rocksbox stylists to pick for me as a surprise piece. I really like trying trends before I buy them (I've bought so many things that I end up wearing once or twice, and then the fad passes), and getting to swap things out once they're done means I've got a less-crowded, constantly new and fresh jewelry box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Every box is different and packed based on the customer's tastes and what's available at the time. You can, however, give the Rocksbox stylists a nudge by adding your favorite pieces to your wishlist!

Value Breakdown: Rocksbox membership costs $21.00 per month. At retail, the three pieces would cost me $158.00. With Rocksbox discounts, that price drops to $142.00. Subtract from that my $5.00 Forever Credit and $21.00 Shine Credit, and my total to buy everything in the box would be just $116.00.

Love the necklace and earrings.

@Anna, FYI – some of the text is contradictory. You first say you left your wishlist empty to see what they pick for you, but later you indicated that you had added some of the items to it.

I noticed that too. I figured maybe she meant she had been leaving her wish list empty since/after that/presently is that way?
