Bulu Box October 2018 Review
There isn’t a theme for Bulu Box and there is some personalization involved, so the contents are usually a surprise:
Because of the variations with this subscription, there’s not a traditional information card listing the items.
There are also usually some coupons and/or product literature with this subscription. They don’t always relate to the items in the box. There was a lot of product literature this month.
Just the Cheese Crunchy Minis White Cheddar (0.5 oz) – Buy 16 Packs for $23.84
These are dehydrated cheese. I have had them in several food subscription boxes before. What happens is, you start eating these and you think “this is pretty tasty” and then about halfway through, you’re wondering how high your blood pressure is spiking from all the salt.
Rx Nut Butter Vanilla Almond Butter (1.13 oz) – Buy 10 Packs for $21.99
This product showed up in at least three subscription boxes at my house this month. And I got it last month. And the month before. Almost always the vanilla almond butter. It tastes OK but I am not sold on the texture. I think it’s the egg whites. I do eat eggs but I’m not sure egg whites are the best ingredient to add texture to a nut butter. They’d be better in a bar or a chip or something.
This product was also in the weight loss version of Bulu Box this month (review coming soon!).
RxBar Chocolate Sea Salt (1.83 oz) – Buy a Variety Pack of 12 Bars for $27.50
These are getting a big push in local stores lately; I’ve seen them prominently displayed at both Whole Foods and Target. Although they are largely dates and nuts, they don’t have quite the texture I am used to from date and nut bars, probably because of the egg whites, which make them hold together a little better but also make them kind of sticky. I do like this chocolate flavor better than some of the other flavors I’ve tried.

Fermented Green Supremefood (7g) – Buy a 30-Day Supply for $39.99
Fermentation is popular right now in health foods because of its relationship to gut bacteria. I don’t know that I believe the probiotics and enzymes in this product are going to have much effect (they’ll probably break down in stomach acid) but I do like to add greens and/or vegetable powders to my smoothies for some of the vitamins and minerals, and this is a perfectly acceptable product for that purpose – it doesn’t noticeably alter the taste or texture of the smoothie.

Vingt Healthy Edge Winter Mint Toothpaste – Buy 4.3 oz for $9.99
This is a sulfate-free toothpaste, which is nice for those of us who are sensitive to SLS in oral care products. It contains curcumin so it will be anti-inflammatory, which should be good for the gums. However, it is also fluoride-free and so it is a no-go for me. I will only use toothpaste with fluoride in it; nothing else is as good at preventing cavities and fighting tooth decay.
Verdict: This month’s box had five samples, so they average about $2 each. This was a very food-heavy month but everything was vegetarian (Bulu Box doesn’t make any promises regarding dietary restrictions and most of the food items had dairy or egg ingredients, so I wouldn’t recommend this subscription to vegans).
I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB799 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two. Please also note that instead of getting points you can redeem for merchandise if you review your samples, now you get sweepstakes entries, which isn’t as good of a deal (unless you are the winner…).
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, November would be your first shipment. Also, keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.
Coupon - Use our coupon code MYSUB799 to get your subscription at $7.99 per month, for the lifetime of the subscription!
Value Breakdown: This box costs $9.99 + free shipping, which means that each of the 5 items in the box has an average cost of $2.
