Scentbird is a perfume subscription where you choose one fragrance per month. They offer a variety of authentic designer scents and allow you to narrow down by either traditional categories for notes (e.g., floral, woody, spicy, etc.) or more general descriptive terms (e.g., mysterious, classic, flirty). Subscribers also receive a monthly discount code that can be used on full-size bottles of perfume or cologne from the Scentbird shop.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Scentbird for Women September 2018 Review

This month, I received Scentbird‘s “Scent of the Month.” You can either opt for the scent of the month or you can fill a queue with fragrances of your choosing:

There was what is basically an advertising flyer for this month’s scent, “Chinotto di Liguria” by Acqua di Parma.

Your fragrance is typically packaged in a cardboard tube and if you look at the back, it has instructions on how to put these in the Scentbird holders.

Chinotto di Liguria by Acqua di Parma – Estimated Value $11.41 (buy a 2.5 oz./75 ml. bottle for $107)

This is actually a unisex fragrance and I can kind of see that. (For what it’s worth, this one is relatively new, having been launched earlier this year.) The top notes are citrus (mandarin, and chinotto, a Mediterranean fruit that grows in the Liguria region of Italy). Middle notes are mostly floral including jasmine and geranium, although there is allegedly some cardamom (I can’t detect it) and rosemary. Base notes are patchouli and musk.

This one doesn’t sound like it should be “clean and fresh,” but that is how it smells on me. I am not familiar with chinotto so maybe it is a little different from more familiar citrus notes. The rosemary may be part of what I’m noticing, as that is not a note that shows up in a lot of other fragrances I’ve tried. And, I’d have to say this is much more musk and less patchouli, at least on me. (But do realize, fragrances smell a little different on everyone.)

I will probably wear this on occasion but I don’t think it’s one that I would reach for every day. (I *do* like some citrus fragrances.)

Verdict: The estimated value of my fragrance this month is $11.41, which is below the month-to-month cost of the subscription. I am a bit more inclined to forgive that since I have never heard of this brand or fragrance before, so there was a discovery aspect to the box. Plus, you don’t have to choose the “scent of the month” – you can get a more expensive fragrance, you can get older Deck of Scarlet palettes, various makeup products from the likes of Tarte and Ardency Inn, and Scentbird branded bath and body items or scented candles (I really like their hand cream). So this subscription has become a lot more versatile and if you start building up too much fragrance in your stash, you can choose something else for your queue.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, all you have to do is choose this fragrance for your queue.

Coupon – Buy one month, get your second month free! No coupon required—just use this link.

Value Breakdown: This subscription is $14.95/monthly and this month, I received $11.41 worth of fragrance (but again, this is highly variable based on what scent or product you choose).

  1. I wish I’d seen all of these complaints before subscribing! I signed up on 08/13 and still haven’t received anything, and when I complained about a week ago, they gave me some bs about this being a rare shipping delay issue and that my order would ship out soon…yet it still hasn’t. I’ve cancelled and now I’m waiting to see if I’m going to have to claw someones eyes out to get my money refunded, because I will be getting that back. I don’t care if it’s $1 or $100, that’s my money. I kind of wish MSA would warn customers about businesses like this with bad business tactics, especially if they have such a horrible rating with the BBB (seriously, look it up, it’s horrible).

  2. Stay away from scentbird, they will take your money on time and ship your product a month late only after repeated emails bugging them to.

  3. I finally received my order for August on September 19. Then on the 21 I got another order of the same perfume. I have canceled the service and went with luxury scent box. I’ve already received two orders from them and both were on time.

    • Yikes, sounds like this is going to be a short lived sub for me. I’d love to know if Luxury Scent is better and on it with shipping!

      • They have been for me so far and the customer service went above and beyond when I had trouble with my debit card. Luxury scent box is my favorite so far.

  4. I resubscribed in early July. Did not receive a July shipment. Did not receive an August shipment. Finally, finally received a package Sep 15. It had 2 random items NOT from my queue. I immediately emailed customer service, & unsubscribed because that was just the final straw, & I still have not heard back from CS a full week later.

Of course I HAVE received several automated “boo hoo we’re so sad, please resubscribe for such and such special offer” emails.

    • Waited a full 10 days, then sent a new email to Scentbird support. I received a reply to this new attempt a day later…. asking me to submit a photo of the incorrect items. Yeah, I did that WITH my request! I can see it right there in the email CS responded to. I can even click on it & download the image straight from the email reply they sent to ME. Of course I immediately responded that the image was there, & that I was reattaching it just in case. Surprise, surprise, 2 business days later, I still haven’t heard back from them again.

  5. This is unfortunately one of those companies that need an email reminder to ship your item. It had been since 8/28 since I ordered. I emailed them last week. Within 12 hours I had a tracking number.

  6. Just a heads up, I ordered from them twice a few months ago and everything was fine – but it seems they are not responding to emails and are very backed up with shipping. I would definitely wait to sign up until that is resolved.

  7. I started a subscription with them on September 10 and haven’t received anything. My status shows as ‘processing.’ I emailed a few days ago but haven’t gotten a response.

I ordered a fragrance for my first month but put a Deck of Scarlet palette in my queue for latter!

  8. I ordered in august, it’s the end of September and still hasn’t shipped. They did email saying they were changing facilities and gave me a 10dollar credit in the shop.

    • I’ve had a subscription since June. June and July were ok. Then they charged me for a full year with NO AUTHORIZATION. I can’t cancel, per their “rules”. I used my debit card, so no bank help… I have 23 emails trying to rectify this problem with NO responses. Btw, they have an “F” in the Better Business Bureaus rating system.
