GlobeIn Artisan Box "Binge" September 2018 Review
Each box from GlobeIn contains a booklet that talks more about the theme for the box and the items inside. This month, the theme is "binge"—the box is filled with all the goodies needed for a snuggly (and stylish) binge-watching sesh!
I also got a coupon for Giving Grounds, whose coffee is included in this box!
Just a heads up, since there aren't prices listed in the booklet for the items and since not everything is available on the Globein site shop yet, I'm going off the prices given in this Globein spoilers post for items I couldn't find online.
Ceramic Popcorn Bowl, Tunisia - Listed Value $30.00
This 10" wide bowl is just perfect for a pile of popcorn on movie night, but it'd also make a gorgeous home for grab-and-go fruit. I love the autumnal vibe of the strawberry-red paint against the vanilla ceramic.
Palm Leaf Remote Boat, Mexico - Listed Value $15.00
First of all, I have NEVER thought to call little trays like this one "remote boats"! I LOVE that! Palm leaf baskets and trays are regulars in Globein boxes. I've waxed poetically about how much I look forward to getting these palm-leaf products (I have a basket or bowl in literally every room in my home, and I find them so helpful for keeping messy things handy, but out of sight), and I'm so glad to add this 9" x 7.5" tray to my collection. Obviously, it's great for holding remotes, but I might use it as a catch-all by my front door (somewhere to toss my keys and sunglasses when I walk in the house).
Zabana Essentials Lavender Citrus Mint Dry Tinted Shampoo, 2 oz., Peru - Retail Value $12.95, Listed Value $13.00
Getting this dry shampoo in my Binge box gave me a giggle. Because let's be honest—after an afternoon lounging on the couch, my hair is not lookin' so great. I like the way this vegan powder absorbs oil without looking cakey (or like I have baby powder in my hair). Plus, the formula is made specifically for medium to dark hair, so it looks natural on my deep brown locks. I will say it helps to go little by little, as it doesn't distribute as evenly as aerosol dry shampoos I've tried.
Maggie's Organics Snuggle Socks, Peru and Pakistan - Retail Value $12.00, Listed Value $13.00
These socks are made from 89% organic cotton harvested from Peru and Pakistan. They're assembled in North Carolina, so they're US-made. But dare I say the BEST part about these socks is how gosh darn comfy they are! The insides of the socks have a terry-cloth-like texture to them that keeps feet warm and hugged in. They're thicker socks with plenty of stretch, so they're snuggly without being stifling. (The breathable cotton component plays a part there, too.) The color looks a bit redder in the photos than it is in real life. The stripes are raspberry-red and oatmealy—a cute pairing that feels great for fall.
BONUS: Boom Chicka Pop Sweet and Salty Kettle Corn, 1 oz. - Retail Value $1.29
I think it's so cute that they included some actual popcorn (and kettle corn at that!) in this TV-themed box. This gluten-free brand is light, crunchy, and just sweet and salty enough to make me feel like I'm indulging, even though there are only 140 calories in the bag!
BONUS: Cocofloss Sample - Buy 3 32-yd packs for $22.00 here
Should any of the popcorn get stuck between my teeth, I can turn to this pack of Cocofloss, a coconut-flavored floss infused with vegan wax and coconut oil for a more comfortable flossing experience. This tiny pack is perfect for keeping in even the smallest pocket, or the inner pouch of a purse.
BONUS: Giving Grounds Coffee Co Ugandan Gold, 2 oz. - Buy a 12 oz. bag for $12.99 here
Last but not least, there's a sample of Giving Grounds coffee to try! These grounds are Rainforest Alliance Certified/Relationship sourced, which makes it a more ethical choice. Plus the company donates a portion of their proceeds to providing plots of land to people in need throughout Africa. The coffee is rich and smooth—I definitely noticed the subtle caramel notes they mention on the label!
The Verdict: For whatever reason, I didn't expect such a playful theme from Globein, but I really enjoyed what they sent along! The edible extras were a fun addition, too, and helped flesh out the theme. With the weather starting to cool down, I'm excited to have the socks to pad around the house in. Plus the bowl will look gorgeous sitting in my kitchen (or on my lap during a watch party). What I appreciate most about what I get in this box is that everything is nice enough quality that I'd feel totally comfortable gifting these products to someone if they didn't fit my tastes well enough. Plus, the fact that these items are made by ethical brands and real artisans makes me feel good about where my money is going.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Subscribers have between the 1st and the 10th of the month to pick their box.
Coupon – Use coupon code MSAWELCOME to save $10.00 off any subscription
Value Breakdown: At $50.00 for this box ($40.00 + $10.00 shipping), each featured item has an average price of about $12.50. Add the bonus items, and that average comes down to $7.14. Looking just at the featured items in the box, I estimate that I got $69.95 worth of retail value (using Globein's values where I couldn't find values online). Using those estimated numbers, the proportional cost of each item is:
- Bowl - $21.44
- Remote boat - $10.72
- Dry shampoo - $9.26
- Socks - $8.58
