Play! by Sephora is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription. Each month they send you six samples, a PLAY! BOOK of tips and tricks, and a PLAY! PASS for in-store learning.

I used to work at Sephora so I naturally couldn’t resist this subscription!

FYI - The box variation I received this month is box ending in #194. To find out which box you’re receiving at the beginning of each month, follow these instructions:

If you log in through a browser, not the app, and go to my account > account details > online orders and open the play! Order Details, you can see the “item number” next to the image.

Every month they include all of the samples in a mini bag with a different design.

Play! by Sephora July 2018 #194 Review

Sephora Play July box 194 info 1

Each box comes with a foldable info sheet. The front always has a design related to the theme (all about treating your skin well with skincare and natural ingredients), and the Play! Pass.

Sephora Play July box 194 play pass

Each box comes with a Play! Pass, which is a card you can use at Sephora (in-store) to get 50 extra rewards points, and you can also get one-on-one tutorials and tips of products from a Sephora consultant.

Sephora Play July box 194 info 2

The opposite side of the info sheet has pictures of each item and details about what they are, how to use them, and why they think you’ll love them.

Sephora Play July box 194 tarte blush

Sephora Play July box 194 tarte blush 2

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Paaarty – 1.5 g Estimated Value $7.77 (Buy a 5.6g compact for $29)

Tarte is the only blush I've used for years. Sometimes I've tried something else but I've always come back to my Tarte collection. Their formula applies and blends well, and stays put all day. This formula is a beautiful neutral that works for everyone. It's buildable, too.

Sephora Play July box 194 hair mask

Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil , 12 ml - Estimated Value $3.49 (Buy 8.33 oz for $71)

Using this as a condition gave my hair some really nice softness and volume. The smell is a little unisex/baby-powdery? It's hard to describe, but it didn't stay in my hair too strongly, especially after my other styling products after washing.

Sephora Play July box 194 josie maran

Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter, 5 ml - Estimated Value $3.53 (Buy 1.7 oz for $40)

This face butter is made with Argan oil and aloe nectar to help hydrate, soothe inflammation, and reduce redness. All of Josie Maran's products are made with Argan oil, and I really like her products! I have dry skin so the argan oil is really helpful for hydration, though her products are good for all skin types. This face butter absorbs well and leaves my skin hydrated and feeling soft.

Sephora Play July box 194 tarte cleanser

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Deep Dive Makeup Removing Gel Cleanser, .25 oz - Estimated Value $1.25 (Buy 5 oz bottle for $25)

This cleanser brightens your skin and removes waterproof makeup too! It's very gentle, and I found it to be perfectly effective. It's formulated with lavender, vitamin C, and antioxidant-rich algae, which are all ingredients I really love in my skincare!

Sephora Play July box 194 kora

Kora Organics Noni Glow Face Oil, 5 ml - Estimated Value $11.45 (Buy a 1.01 oz. bottle for $68)

Kora Organics is the skincare line made by Miranda Kerr. I've tried one or two things from this line before and liked them, so I'm happy to see this at Sephora and in my box! I love a good face oil. They make such a difference to me, and this one just feels like nourishing superfood for my skin.

Sephora Play July box 194 sugar lip mask

Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment in Sheer Pink, .07 oz - Estimated Value $12.13 (Buy a .15 tube for $26)

I've tried this lip treatment before, thanks to subscription boxes, and I like it. It smells sweet, comfortable to wear, and is super moisturizing. It's great on its own, especially this tinted version. But I also like to put it on before I put on my makeup to prep my lips for finishing up with a long-wear lipstick.

Sephora Play July box 194 applied to face

Here, I'm wearing the blush and the tinted lip balm. Very natural and subtle - perfect for everyday!

Verdict: This month's Play! by Sephora box has an estimated value of $39.62. I think that’s great for a $10 beauty box! Especially because the box will always include high-end brands. I love trying new things from brands I love and I trust Sephora’s curation of brands and products, as well. I'm also happy to have received 6 samples and no perfume this month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive next month's samples, curated based on your Play! Profile. Get email alerts for monthly spoilers!

Value Breakdown: At $10 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Blush: $1.96
  • Hair Mask: $0.88
  • Face Butter: $0.89
  • Cleanser: $0.31
  • Noni Face Oil: $2.89

I never got a single sample as good as any of these during the year I was a Play subscriber. If I got boxes like these, I would still be subbed! These all look great!

I wasn’t a box match this month. Bummer, as I love that christophe Robin hair mask and haven’t broken down and bought it yet. I’d also like to try the josie Maran.
But I”m box 152 and liked it fine. Everything new to me except the Briogeo hair mask (meh). All in all, good value & fun to try.

Thanks so much, JP! And Oh, dear. Maybe you can swap for some items? I’m sure there’ll be some good stuff coming in months ahead, though. 🙂 I’m generally pretty happy with my Play! boxes.

This was my box as well. I loved the hair mask but holy cow $71?! That bums me out. I used the Amika Velveteen balm from birchbox afterwards and the combination of the two made my hair crazy soft!!
