There’s not a traditional information card with this subscription, but you get a couple of inserts including a humorous sticker.

Pet Treater Cat August 2018 Treats

Purebites Freeze-Dried Chicken, 0.6 oz – Retail Value $2.99 (found here for $2.29)

My cats normally don’t like freeze-dried meat but all of them except Mr. Kitty (who can’t have this) were interested this month. This is a brand I regularly buy for Mr. Kitty, only I get their duck liver because he can have that. Anyway, this product is currently in production, made in the US, and only has one ingredient.

Insulated Drink Holder

We also received one of these in the Pet Treater (for dogs) box this month. I am not one to drink directly from cans so I will pass this along to someone who will get more use out of it. This is a custom-printed design for Pet Treater Cat Pack so I wasn’t able to find it for sale online.

Pet Treater Cat August 2018 Dice

Jackson Galaxy Cat Dice – Retail Value $4.99 (found here for $3.95)

These are a lightweight material, not sure what it is. Sneaky wouldn’t bite it so I don’t think it’s silicone. Anyway, at first there wasn’t a lot of interest. Then at night, while Mr. Kitty gets his evening medications (three pills and a liquid plus three eye drops), Sneaky plays with toys and we greatly enjoyed watching her bat all three of these under the dresser in the space of about three minutes.

Fat Cat Appeteasers – Buy a 2-pack for $4.47 (found here for $2.59)

You typically buy these in random, assorted 2-packs, but I guess the folks at Pet Treater took them off the backing cards and gave us 1.5 packages worth? Anyway, Monkey likes Fat Cat toys a lot. There is something about the texture of the outer fabric that gets him excited and he licks, and licks, and licks until they are soaking wet. I think someone else has been playing with these as well as the weenie dog one has moved halfway across the bedroom floor.

Angus took up residence in this box for the last few days he was in the e-collar (he is out of it now, but still hangs out in the box from time to time). He was kind of sleepy and moody during these pictures, I think he was tired of wearing the thing.

Mr. Kitty has to inspect things closely since his one remaining eye is in pretty bad shape. He can still see a little, but not much.

He came in the bedroom when I was handing out treats. He can’t have chicken, so instead, I put toys on top of him.

Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a total value for the August 2018 Pet Treater Cat Pack because one item is not available online (custom-printed for the box) and the small toys were part of a split up package. However, the toys and treats were pretty well-loved by my cats, and this subscription is fairly inexpensive, so I think it was a good month. I am going to count this as receiving 4.5 items (instead of the usual 4) due to getting three of the catnip toys instead of just two.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you’d receive September's package as your first shipment.

Value Breakdown: At $12.99 per month for this subscription, you are paying approximately $2.89 per item.

Angus is back in the collar and his skin issue is worse. So, back to square one — topical steroid and a (SLOW, SLOW) diet change. Crossing my fingers we don’t need to put him on prednisolone (or, as it is called in my house, “magic kitty pills,” because Sneaky takes it for her asthma and Mr. Kitty takes it for his IBD).

My cat has skin issues associated with a depressed immune system. We have her on Atopica and it works the best out of everything we’ve tried. When the flare-ups get really bad, she needs antibiotic & steroid shots too, so we understand Angus’ anguish.

We’re hoping to avoid immune suppressing drugs with Angus for two reasons:

(1) I have seen what they do to Sneaky (electrolytes out of whack, have to supplement potassium and have blood levels measured periodically), Mr. Kitty (exacerbated eye problems including rupture and removal on one side as well as skin issues), and Nyx (skin issues, previously Cushing’s disease, muscle loss)

(2) Angus almost certainly has calicivirus (thankfully not progressed beyond eye discharge and sneezing) and I don’t want that to go crazy if he is on steroids

But that means trying all the other remedies first and food trials are slow and take a long time.

Monkey had a version of this some years ago (eosinophilic granuloma complex) that resulted in a swollen lower lip, but that went away with steroids after a week or two. This is a supposedly rare condition but I have my doubts!
