Lucky Vitamin Chirp Beauty Bag Summer 2018 Review

Danica Studios Zippered Pouch - Listed Value $20 (value listed on LuckyVitamin's website)

The items came packed in a canvas pouch, and while I usually don’t need to add another makeup bag to my collection I actually really quite like this one! It is incredibly well-made and sturdy, and I really like the yellow and blue feather design on the navy/grey background.

EOS Sunscreen Lip Balm Sphere Lemon Twist 15 SPF, Full-Size! Retail Value $3.29 (found here for $2.75)

Sunburnt lips are the absolute worst so I always welcome lip balms with SPF in them! The lemon flavor was very mild, and unfortunately, this didn't keep my lips hydrated for very long.

Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap Tangerine Citrus, 2 oz

Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap Tangerine Citrus, 2 oz – Estimated Value $1.20 (buy a 16 fl oz. bottle for $9.60)

This is an all-in-one soap that can be used as a shampoo, body wash and shave soap. I personally do not believe in using all-in-ones on my hair, but I was happy with the performance as a body wash. It didn't suds up too much but it did leave me feeling clean while being gentle.

Schmidt’s Natural Moisture Rich + Detoxifying Bar Soap in Ylang Ylang + Calendula, 1 oz

Schmidt’s Natural Moisture Rich + Detoxifying Bar Soap in Ylang Ylang + Calendula, 1 oz – Estimated Value $1.10 (buy the 5 oz bar for $5.49, found here for $4.94)

I know Schmidt's is in the natural deodorant game, but I haven't heard of their body soap before! This bar soap was moisturizing and gentle, and the essential oils made it smell great. I took this on my trip with me and thought this was a big improvement over the standard bar soap provided by hotels!

PiperWai  Natural Activated Charcoal Deodorant Cream, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $3 (buy the full-size version for $11.99)

This is a new type of product to me, and I was a bit hesitant to try it. The scent is described as "light" and "gender-neutral," and I would agree with that. This works by having activated charcoal soak up sweat, so while it isn't marketing as an antiperspirant it does have some of those qualities. I thought it did a decent job when I tried it out, but I didn't do anything too strenuous. This also does go from grey to clear when you rub it in, so you don’t have to worry about grey pits!

Sun Bum Premium Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion 30 SPF, 1 oz

Sun Bum Premium Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion 30 SPF, 1 oz – Estimated Value $2 (buy the full-size version for $15.99, found here for $15.19)

This moisturizer with SPF 30 protection also has vitamin E to help fight premature aging. It is non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, and I found it to be gentle on my skin. This did leave my oily skin a tad bit greasy. I still really liked this, so I will be using this on my neck and chest.

Dr. Woods Black Soap Facial Cleanser, 2 oz – Estimated Value $1.12 (buy the 16 fl oz bottle for $8.99, found here for $6.89)

This cleanser is safe for both face and body and actually has some acne-fighting ingredients and a mild exfoliation. I liked this as a body cleanser, and according to the website, this can also be used as a bath soak which is what I will be trying next!

Beauty Without Cruelty Lotion Hand & Body Treatment, 2 oz –

Beauty Without Cruelty Lotion Hand & Body Treatment, 2 oz – Estimated Value $1.50 (buy the full-size version for $11.99, found here for $7.78)

I have been battling some rough cuticles, so I need all the help I can get. I found this lotion to be extra hydrating, especially after stepping out of the shower, and this is also fragrance-free for those who are sensitive to scents.

Thayers Witch Hazel Toner with Aloe Vera, 1 oz – Estimated Value $0.91 (buy the 12 oz version for $10.95, found here for $9.31)

This is the original formula of Thayers witch hazel toner with aloe vera, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. The alcohol-free formula meant that this wasn’t too rough on my skin, and it did a good job of making my skin feel fully clean before I applied my moisturizer.

Hello Extra Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste in Pure Mint, 0.85 oz

Hello Extra Whitening Fluoride Toothpaste in Pure Mint, 0.85 oz – Estimated Value $1.01 (buy the full-size version for $4.99, found here for $4.74)

I ALWAYS forget toothpaste when I travel so having small tubes like this are a godsend. I didn't notice a difference in the whiteness of my teeth the few days I tried it, and to be honest, I was a bit disappointed that the "pure mint" flavor didn't pack much of a minty punch at all.

Acure Brilliantly Brightening Facial Day Cream, 1 oz – Estimated Value $9.99 (buy the full-size version for $16.99, found here for $14.49)

This is a bit too heavy for my skin for everyday use but it has a light, pleasant smell and provides great moisture. My dry skin girls, this one is for you!

Derma E Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil, 0.25 oz

Derma E Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil, 0.25 oz – Estimated Value $2.25 (buy the full-size version for $17.99, found here for $14.39)

I really like cleansing oils as they always leave my skin feeling hydrated and clean at the same time, so I was happy to try this sample out. This was incredibly gentle on my skin and didn’t leave my face oily, and I was happy with the job it did getting makeup and other junk off of my face.

JR Watkins Naturals Apothecary Hand & Body Lotion in Lemon Cream, 1 oz – $0.89 (Buy the full-size version for $9.79, found here for $5.94)

This lemon cream lotion has a sweet lemon scent that reminds me of pastries, and I really love it. My only complaint is that the container it is in doesn’t squeeze so actually getting the product out is a challenge.

JR Watkins Natural Hand Cream in Lavender, 0.7 oz

JR Watkins Natural Hand Cream in Lavender, 0.7 oz – Estimated Value $1.91 (buy the full-size version for $8.99, found here for $5.47)

This hand cream has an amazing lavender fragrance that is absolutely lovely. I’ve been taking extra time to apply this hand cream in order to breathe in deep the soothing lavender scent. This absorbed quickly, doesn’t leave my hands greasy, and left my hands feeling soft and smooth.

Nature’s Gate Body Wash in Coconut – Buy the full-size version for $8.89, found here for $6.01

Radius Organic Coconut Toothpaste in Ginger Citrus – Buy the full-size version for $7.19

Bodyceuticals Purifying Facial Crème in Calendula + Antioxidants – Buy the full-size version for $26, found here for $22.10

Mad Hippie Exfoliating Facial Serum – Buy the full-size version for $34.99, found here for $27.99

Goddess Garden Everyday Natural Sunscreen 30 SPF – Buy the full-size version for $21.99, found here for $19.79

Mill Creek Botanicals Biotene H-24 Natural Shampoo With Biotin – Buy the full-size version for $9.99, found here for $5.89

I don’t think anyone ever gets excited for foil samples like these, but they do make traveling incredibly convenient! These are easy to toss in your makeup bag and you are good to go for different skincare and body care needs.

The Verdict: Without taking into account any value promises, I do think I got my money’s worth and I am happy with that. A lot of these items were perfect for travel, and the included pouch was great to throw in my carry-on on a recent trip. Where I take issue is the promised value—Lucky Vitamin promises a value of $100, and this falls far short. By my math, including the pouch but not the foil samples, this box has a total value of only $50.17. Even if I took the time to calculate the value of small foil packets, there isn’t an additional $49.83 in value there. It is possible I made a math mistake somewhere along the way, but it is frustrating when a company over-promises and under-delivers. If this didn’t have that “over $100 value” promise, I would have been just fine with the box contents.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $24 + $5.95 shipping, which means that each of the samples in the box has an average cost of $1.58.

$30 seems kind of high for this.

I am kind of bitter the price has jumped from about $14, $19, $29, $24…. i might be a dollar or so off, but this is generally how it went….

I think I’m in the minority, because I actually enjoy getting packet samples! 😀 I just used the Radius toothpaste this morning, and probably due to the coconut oil in it, it made my toothbrush feel like it was slipping & sliding quite a bit on my teeth. It sort of got in the way of the scrubbing action I like to feel from my toothbrush, but my mouth still felt refreshed & clean, so I can’t really complain. I had to gift that JR Wakins body lotion because I quickly realized that it would cause me nothing but frustration in trying to pound that lotion out of the unforgiving bottle.

I like foil packets too. It’s a great way to “try” things. I feel wasteful if I have to toss a full size item because it didn’t work for me. And my son travels 95% of the time for his job so he loves the shampoo/conditioner packets. Great stocking stuffers.

If you purchase through Google express they are offering 20% off (summersave20) and free shipping. That’s about $19 delivered.
