CHC Vintage August 2018 Review
This subscription is customized based on your size and preferences from a survey you fill out after subscribing, so everyone receives something different each month. But that’s part of the fun! Let’s see what August’s shipment had in it for me:
There is usually a handwritten card with some styling suggestions. We took the pictures below before work one morning and it was already warm enough that I didn’t need any jacket, cardigan, etc., but I’m going to refer back to this card for ideas on how to transition the dress into fall and winter.
Alfani Dress
This is from Alfani, a Macy’s-only brand (that I am familiar with because I have some of their other items in my closet as well). It fits very nicely and zips easily (I was able to do it myself, without help). It has a velour-type finish, which was still in excellent shape, and it is fully lined.
It is dry-clean only, which is a little bit of a pain. (My dad used to own a chain of dry cleaners in Kansas City, decades ago, and I was under the false impression as a kid that dry cleaning was free, and even now I am reluctant to pay for it!) I think getting it sopping wet by hand-washing might make it not look very good, so I guess it is time to find a dry cleaner near where I live. On the plus side, it doesn’t wrinkle and it is pretty comfortable to move around in, and the slit in the back isn’t too high for the office.
Verdict: I like the dress I received from CHC Vintage this month. I don’t normally wear a ton of black, but the floral print gives this enough color that I don’t feel like a Goth with it on. It is suitable for office wear – maybe a little dressy, even – and is a nice weight for transitioning to colder weather.
There is a generous exchange policy if something doesn’t fit or has some other issue (I once received a dress with a broken zipper, for example, and the exchange was super simple). I don’t regularly shop at consignment or vintage stores, so I don’t know how this price compares to what you would see somewhere like that. However, I would definitely pay $35 or more for a wear-to-work dress, and I got one here, so this subscription is worth it to me from that perspective.
