My Zodiac Box "Pisces" Review May 2018
UPDATE: My Zodiac Box has been having some fulfilling and shipping issues from the get-go, but are working on getting everything fixed as soon as they can. Normally this May box should have shipped around May 27th so I would have received it in early June (which is their normal cadence), but I didn't receive it until June 22nd. The good news is that the June box arrived July 9th so they are getting closer!
When you first sign up for My Zodiac Box, you'll answer some preference questions like your zodiac sign (of course), birthday, jewelry colors and sizes, if you have a bathtub, and if you'd like to receive clothing. This means each box will be curated specifically for you!
Your box will come with a short info booklet. This month is all about the moon and finding your moon sign.
It lists the items included and who made them.
...and the back has your monthly horoscope on it as read by Ancasta Day. June was kind of terrible but I will say it did get a bit better by the end. For clarification- the month featured here isn't the "current" month, but a look ahead.
Terracotta Moon Phase Wall Art by Sage & Stone Company, small size - Retail Value $15.00
Even though this is their "small" size, it's quite large at roughly 16 inches from end to end. I think this hand cut string of moon phases is really cool and it's going to be perfect in an arc above my crystal altar in my bedroom! Since it's terra cotta, part of me wants to drop some essential oil onto it to disperse throughout my room but I'm not seeing anywhere that says it's a good idea. At any rate, this is a really unexpected piece!
Moonstone (with pouch and info card)
This is the obvious choice to include in a moon-themed box. The same pouch that housed my turquoise last month is back with a tumbled moonstone and info card to tell me all about it. This is actually a wonderful surprise since I'm making a little package for my bestie who is trying to conceive right now. Moonstone is supposed to help "promote conception and all aspects of the reproductive system" as well as "balance hormonal and menstrual cycles", among other things like increased patience, and "encourages introspection and judgment, yielding easier decision making".
Pisces Mug by Lulu's Jewels - Estimated Retail Value $12.00 (similar linked)
I am an avid mug collector, kind of by accident. It all started when my old roommates and I used to have an unspoken contest to see who could find the weirdest mugs at thrift stores and quietly add them to the cupboard. Today, I don't thrift as much but I am always seeing cute mugs online or at shops and it's hard to resist buying them. I am only one person but own at least 20 mugs. Anyhow, this one is simple overall yet has a detailed design for my water sign of Pisces on the front. Nothing too crazy here, but it's cute and functional! If I'm feeling over-mugged, I can pass it to my Mom who is also a Piscean who loves drinking tea.
Astronomy Matches by Skeem Design - Retail Value $12.00
How adorable is this? I don't know why but I am such a sucker for anything in a glass jar. These sleek black matches are packed inside a four-inch-tall bottle with a cork plug that has a white moon screened on one side, and the striking strip on the back. Just jostle one out when you're ready to light a candle and light it on the back. Plus, this just looks a lot nicer on the mantle than a matchbook or lighter from a gas station, amirite?
White Gold Dipped Crescent Moon Necklace by Canvas - Retail Value $20.00
I'm not a huge jewelry person, so it's hard for me to tell quality when it comes to metals and such, but this seems like a solid little necklace for the price. I like the brushed silver metal and the way it's hung through the rope chain. It easily slides on the chain and while wearing it realized it's quite a nice little thing to fidget with. It's adjustable so you can wear it short or longer, depending on your preference. It's really lightweight too so it's nice for summer (unlike the heavy statement necklaces that I have).
2018 Lunar Calendar Art Print by Sailor Paper Company - Estimated Retail Value $10.00 (linked to other prints in their shop)
I'll be the first to admit that when I see a print in a box, my heart usually sinks. However, this moon calendar is something that interests me. Even though we're halfway through the year, it's nice to have this guide posted right near my altar so when I see the moonlight coming through my window, I can see where we're at! I feel like I'm always saying "is THAT a full moon?" to myself as I squint out the window.
Guide to Moon Signs
This isn't listed as an item but is rather a bonus guide that goes nicely with the box. Like it said in the booklet, many people don't know what their moon sign is. I am one of those people, but I set out online to figure it out and came back with "Moon in Aries". It all depends on the time and year you were born, in addition to where.
Healing Stone Set
This was also not included in the list of items, but is one of my favorite parts because I love receiving gemstones! Like the main info card says, these healing stones are for each of the moon's phases: new (Clear Quartz), waxing (Sodalite), full (Tiger's Eye), and waning (Blue Apatite). While I'm a lunar newbie and don't know what all of those terms mean, a simple search clarified things and I can now use my lunar calendar to figure out which stone I should be toting around with me to receive the specific healing benefits. I love this stuff!! Since today happens to be a waning moon, I'll be displaying my Blue Apatite stone to focus on letting go, cleansing, breaking habits, releasing, and opening up.
The Verdict: My Zodiac Box was so much fun this month! I was excited to see so many moon-related items since I'm sooo not familiar with moon signs at all but would love to learn. There's nothing in this package I disliked but I have to say that the terracotta wall art and matches are probably my faves in addition to all of the new gemstones.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? The first box you'll receive is their Welcome Box that will look something like the one I got for April and should ship right away. After that, you will get charged on the 7th of each month and boxes ship around the 27th of each month, so you most likely won't get it until early the following month.
Coupon - Use YAYMSA to get $5.00 off your first box!
Value Breakdown: This box costs $39.95 + free shipping, which means that each of the 7 items in the box (counting the moonstone separate from the healing stones set) has an average cost of $5.71.
