Facet Jewelry Box is a new subscription box from the editors at Facet Jewelry and Bead & Button magazine. They offer two versions: the “Quick and Easy Stringing” box and the “Bead Stitching” box, so you can choose a subscription based on your skill level and interests, as well as the amount of time you want to invest in the projects.

This is a review of the $24.95 a month “Quick and Easy Stringing” box (both versions cost the same).

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Facet Jewelry Box Quick and Easy Stringing June 2018 Review

This is still a fairly new subscription so I really didn’t know what was in store:

The first thing you see when you open the box is this full-color booklet. I haven’t shown you all of the pages inside because part of the subscription fee is for the projects that are included.

This is a really nice booklet, honestly, but I’d expect nothing less from the folks at Bead & Button (I’ve been a subscriber for awhile now). There are also links to online resources if you need a little help with a technique.

Global Essence Bracelet

The first project this month was making a bracelet. This is a super simple project; the only skill you really need is crimping. I made mine shorter than the directions said but my wrists are really small.

I was happy with the materials quality here. The magnetic clasp is super strong and appropriate for this weight of bracelet (plus you can put it on and take it off yourself without help). The round beads were lapis lazuli; you do occasionally get semiprecious stones in this subscription.

If you haven’t done this one yet, look in the baggie with the spacers for the mysterious “2mm beads” (I think it was 2mm, but don’t quote me on that) referred to in the directions.

First off, sorry the beads in the back are so blurry. I was working in super low light conditions and my camera just couldn’t handle it. Lesson learned for future reviews of this box. They are a dark purple color and you will see several better pictures of them below.

Great Lengths Necklace

This is a really long necklace with no clasp. I showed it wrapped around a second time up above, but there are a lot of options with this one.

For this one, you’ll need some pliers. A basic set should do – I used round nose, chain nose, and bent chain nose pliers at various points in this project. You’ll also need wire cutters (probably come as part of the pliers set) and a ruler.

This project took quite a while. Making all those wrapped loops is not a quick thing for me, nor am I very good at it, to be honest. Although completing this was good practice, that’s for sure. The wire was an appropriate gauge for making wrapped loops (not too thick or anything).

Verdict: I did not calculate a value for Facet Jewelry Box. I feel like the projects definitely fit the “quick and easy” description. I thought the instructional booklet was excellent (and well-edited; I didn’t notice any errors). I like the overall finished look of both projects, as well.

I was not frustrated by either project this month although I will probably not be rushing to make any wrapped loops again anytime soon…

I think that, in general, the people who will enjoy this version of the box the most are (1) people new to beading or (2) people who like to bead but don’t have a ton of time.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You will receive the July box. Boxes go out after the 20th and people who sign up before the 15th will get that month’s box. If you sign up after the 15th, you may still be able to get that month’s box but this is not guaranteed.

Ragan

I sorted my beads after I had surgery last year. Took me days and days. Now they are all over my living room and dining room again. But they are sorted.
