Bulu Box is a monthly fitness and weight loss subscription. The original Bulu Box is focused more on fitness and general health supplements, and they also offer a Weight Loss box that focuses more on diet products.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This review is of the Original Bulu, $10 a month, box.

Bulu Box June 2018 Review

There isn’t a theme for Bulu Box and there is some personalization involved, so the contents are usually a surprise:

Because of the variations with this subscription, there’s not a traditional information card listing the items.

There are also usually some coupons and/or product literature with this subscription.  They don’t always relate to the items in the box.

Zone Perfect Fudge Graham Bar (0.72 oz)

Zone Perfect Fudge Graham Bar (0.72 oz) – Buy 12, 1.76 oz Bars for $13.99

I feel like these have been making the rounds lately; I received some bars from this brand in FitSnack Box not too long ago. (This is not a full-size bar, for what it’s worth, but it was enough to make a decision about the product.) This has an airy texture, I guess there are some kind of puffs in there to make it less dense (and to give it fewer calories). I thought it was all right but not necessarily anything I would seek out.

Styr Electrolytes in Lemon Lime – Buy 10 Packets for $7.95

This is from the same company that makes the fitness tracker everyone received last month. This has natural colors and flavors, which is great, and the calories are pretty low (only 15). I’m not wild about the stevia flavor although I guess that’s what keeps the calories down.

Vitamin Friends Vegan Iron Gummies (4 count)

Vitamin Friends Vegan Iron Gummies (4-count) – Buy 60 Gummies for $24.99

These are vegan so I ate one. Apparently, they are supposed to be strawberry flavored, which was not apparent (there was something sort of fruity about them, I guess). The gummy texture was decent, although since I am vegetarian I have not eaten a “real” (i.e., gelatin) gummy for 25 years. I would not advise just giving your kids iron unless an MD recommends it, but if they do need it, this would probably go over better than some big pill.

Abundant Earth Mint 100% Peppermint Oil (sample) – Buy 0.5 fl oz for $20

This little guy fell out of the card and I had to go digging through the tissue paper in the box to find it, so if your card looks empty, you probably actually did get this! It is peppermint oil and can be used in a diffuser (what I did) or diluted with an appropriate carrier to be used in making homemade beauty products. (The website associated with this product is, um, interesting. In an unorganized, stream-of-consciousness sort of way. You can order up some psychotherapy and some peppermint oil in the same place…)

Bio Kult Probiotics (10 capsules) – Buy 60 Capsules for $23.20

These are probiotics and they are vegetarian so I tried them. It is hard to tell what effect they are having because my system is all messed up from being sick and being on cough syrup with codeine in it. 10 is at least enough to make sure there won’t be any negative effects. These are gluten free but do not take them if you have a soy or dairy allergy (a lot of probiotic bacteria are cultured in the presence of dairy products, some of which may remain behind in the final product).

Bio Kult Infantis (2 sachets) – Buy a 16 Pack for $17.63

These are probiotics for babies and they are not vegetarian. This is a good time to point out that you will sometimes receive children’s items with this subscription. There is a profile you fill out when you sign up, but I’m pretty sure they don’t pay any attention to that at all…because I never would’ve asked for kids’ products since I don’t have kids! It seems this is mostly marketed towards when kids have to take antibiotics, much like you might give them yogurt to replenish “good” bacteria.

Orb Women’s Multi + Fish Oil (2 liquid capsules)

Orb Women’s Multi + Fish Oil (2 liquid capsules) – Buy 30 Capsules for $17.62

This is a time-release vitamin. I’m not sure that matters very much for fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, etc.) because those are stored in your tissues for use as needed. I suppose it could be more important for water-soluble vitamins (B complex vitamins, C, etc.) and/or minerals. This is not vegetarian as it has both fish oil and collagen. Also, for the record, you are supposed to take two of these at a time, which is not surprising to me since it contains both a multivitamin and fish oil, which would ordinarily be two separate but relatively large pills. I do think taking omega-3 fatty acids can be good, and if you are not vegetarian, fish oil is an easy and inexpensive way to get omega-3s.

Xlear Nasal Spray (sample) – Buy 1.5 fl oz for $14.99 (found here for $9.96)

This is a saline nasal spray with xylitol, which is supposed to make it more soothing (and possibly provide antibacterial benefit) than plain saline spray. Unfortunately, this also contains grapefruit seed extract (a “natural” preservative, I guess). I once tried a similar product with grapefruit seed extract and it took 20 minutes for me to stop violently sneezing, so I have avoided that ingredient in nasal sprays ever since (I am just getting over bronchitis and I don’t need any more disruptions to my respiratory system). It is worth trying this once when you are well so you can gauge your reaction, because I doubt that’s the case for everyone, and salt sprays can help if your nasal passages are particularly dried out.

Verdict: This month’s Bulu Box had 8 samples, so they’d be about $1.25 each if you paid full price ($10) for this box. I have the $5 for life deal, so my per-item price was around $0.63, which is a pretty good deal even if every sample doesn’t work for you. (As long as there are a couple of things I can try, I’m happy enough.) I’d say this assortment was representative of what you could receive in a given month from this subscription.

I’d strongly recommend using our MYSUB799 coupon code when you subscribe and choosing either the regular or the weight loss box, but not both since there is a lot of product repetition between the two. Please also note that instead of getting points you can redeem for merchandise if you review your samples, now you get sweepstakes entries, which isn’t as good of a deal (unless you are the winner…).

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, July would be your first shipment. Also, keep in mind that there are variations in the boxes, so your box might not be exactly like mine in any given month.

Coupon - Use our coupon code MYSUB799 to get your subscription at $7.99 per month, for the lifetime of the subscription!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $10 + free shipping, which means that each of the 8 items in the box has an average cost of $1.25.

i got the same box. this month was a let down, i didn’t feel the value. usually i’m pretty happy with the options but this month was just… eh. i thought they were going to go for a full size for the vitamins. i think i’m just spoiled from the last few months with the tracker and the eye cream and toner.

🙂

I look at this subscription as, “sometimes you’ll get something good (i.e., of high value), but a lot of times it’s just random small samples.” I feel like if you go into it with that attitude, you’re less likely to be disappointed.

I do miss the points. They hardly carry anything in their store anymore, it’s all “purchase from partner” which usually means “click on this link and spend money so I can collect Amazon affiliate payouts.”
