Birchbox The Mask Matchmaker Kit 2.0 Beauty Kit Review

Here is the info sheet that came with details on the masks included.

Oh K! Cherry Lip Mask, 1 mask

Oh K! Cherry Lip Mask, 1 mask – Retail Value $4.99

I love the idea of hydrogel lip masks, but usually, they're awkward to wear and don't actually provide results. However, this little lip mask exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations! I had to lay down while wearing it but once I was this didn't budge. My lips felt a lot smoother and softer after wearing—this would be a great treat before a night out where you would be rocking a bold liquid lipstick!

Sand & Sky Brilliant Skin™ Purifying Pink Clay Mask, 0.45 oz – Estimated Value $11.25 (buy the full-size version for $49)

I’m feeling pretty neutral towards this mask. It didn’t irritate my skin and my skin felt soft and smooth after, but nothing about the experience or results really stood out to me. Considering the plethora of face masks I own (I am a bit of a face mask addict), I won't be reaching for this again. I will, however, be passing this along to a friend in the hopes she enjoys it! Luckily this mask is cruelty-free because that is all that she will use.

Borghese Advanced Fango Delicato Mud Mask, 0.5 oz

Borghese Advanced Fango Delicato Mud Mask, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $8.89 (buy the full-size version for $48)

This mask is good for both purifying your pores and dryness, and I think the key is to follow the directions and only leave this mask on for 2-5 minutes. The instructions explicitly state to not let the mask fully dry on your face, and even though I wore this for a short time my skin did feel more refreshed and clear after using. My skin also wasn’t left feeling tight or overly dry the way some clay masks can, so I appreciate that too.

Kiehl’s Ginger Leaf & Hibiscus Firming Mask, 0.5 oz – Estimated Value $7.94 (buy the full-size version for $54)

Firmness isn’t really a skincare concern I have at the moment, but I was still impressed with how bright and soft my skin felt when I woke up the next day after using this overnight mask (shout out to the ginger for putting in that work!). I have been alternating between using this mask and the Huxley a few nights a week, and overall I am loving how clear and bright my skin has been looking! Kiehl's, in general, makes quality products, so I am not surprised I enjoy this one so much.

PETER THOMAS ROTH Hungarian Thermal Water Mineral-Rich Atomic Heat Mask, 0.25 oz

PETER THOMAS ROTH Hungarian Thermal Water Mineral-Rich Atomic Heat Mask, 0.25 oz – Estimated Value $2.84 (buy the full-size version for $58)

This mask is an experience! I have been wanting to try this ever since the Hungarian Thermal Water line was released (the gorgeous packaging drew me in the first time I saw it!). You apply this mask to dry skin, let it sit for a few minutes, and then use COOL water to massage the mask further into your skin. As soon as the mask comes into contact with water it heats up very quickly, and the heat, while short-lived, was definitely hot! I would definitely not want to experience the mask using warm/hot water to massage it in! Since I don't have fine lines I cannot really attest to if it helps with that, but my skin did feel clean and bright after using!

Erno Laszlo Multi-Task Eye Serum Mask, 1 pair – Estimated Value $5.83 (buy a box of six pairs for $35)

I love all eye masks but I was especially happy with how these performed. They were really big so all of my under eyes were covered, and they were especially cooling (I honestly felt like I was at the spa when I was wearing these). Not only were these relaxing, they stayed exactly where I put them so I could lay down or on my side without issue. I think I ended up wearing these for over an hour, and I did feel like the skin under my eyes was brighter and my dark circles lessened a tad.

STARSKIN® Juicelab® Razzle Dazzle Power C+ Booster Face Mask, 1 mask

STARSKIN® Juicelab® Razzle Dazzle Power C+ Booster Face Mask, 1 mask – Retail Value $10

Once a sheet mask costs more than $5, I have a lot higher standards. This sheet mask is an experience— before applying the mask you separate the pouch from the mask and then pour the serum into a mask through a slit to soak the mask. The mask itself has vitamin C-infused crystals, and the serum has tons of fruit extracts—acai berry, blackberry, and blueberry. When I finally applied the mask, it smelled like orange juice! After wearing it for 15 minutes I did feel like my skin was glowing a little more, and the excess serum absorbed quickly. As the serum finished drying, though, it left my skin feeling really sticky. I wasn’t a big fan of the stickiness, but other than that this mask was fun and I definitely want to try it again in the future!

Huxley Secret of Sahara Good Night Sleep Mask, 1.06 oz – Estimated Value $11.29 (buy the full-size version for $36)

I first tried Huxley in the Pink Seoul Mystery Box, and I was happy to see another product from the brand. This absorbed into my skin quickly and a pearl-sized amount actually covered my entire face, so this sample should be able to last me at least a month! After the overnight mask did its magic I woke up to my skin looking super soft and glowy with my redness under control. It also very faintly smelled like cactus, which is something I haven’t smelled since I lived in Southern Arizona. Overall, two thumbs up for this—I think this is the winning product of the entire box.

The Verdict: I am a bit of a face mask addict, so this discovery kit was right up my alley. Surprisingly, all of the masks were brand new products to me, too! My favorites were definitely the Huxley and Erno Lazlo eye masks, but to be honest as a whole this entire kit is pretty great. Considering this kit only costs $22 (before shipping) and it has an estimated value of $63.03 (which is more than the promised value of $56!), I think this kit is an awesome deal and a lot of fun to boot!

I just saw this one on their site the other day. And I am very tempted to get it. I’m a face mask addict too. I like that two of them are overnight ones too!
