Bespoke Post "Greenhouse" Box Review
Here's the info card for my order. It's a big box this month!
Glowpear Mini Base Planter
Similar Glowpear products go for about $80-$100. I wasn't able to find this specific model on their site, but I have a feeling it's a version of the Mini Wall Planter minus the mounting equipment).
The plastic planter is designed to make maintenance easy for first-time gardeners (or folks who are too busy to tend to plants too carefully). I love plants, but I'm far from having a green thumb, so I was excited to try this little invention.
The planter has two wells in the bottom of its basin. You fit one of the kit's black fabric pockets into each well, then fill the pockets with packed soil. There's another piece of fabric that you then set on top of those pockets so that it covers the whole base of the planter. Once that's all set up, all you have to do is fill the planter with soil and plant your seedlings/seeds as usual.
The exterior of the planter is hollow. There's a little triangular door on the left corner of the planter that you can pour water into. Near the right corner of the planter is a little green block that rises up and out of the body of the planter as the water level rises. The idea is that if you see the green indicator, you're golden. But if that indicator disappears, you'll know it's time to add water to the planter's reservoir via that triangular trap door.
So far, my basil and lemon balm plants are loving this planter. The roots draw moisture up, rather than having it drip down from the top of the soil, eliminating worries about evaporation, run-off, or my primary concern, not knowing if the water is sinking in enough to reach the roots that need it. The indicator is really helpful. I have my planter sitting outside on my patio, so each morning as I pass it on my way to work, I check to make sure I'm still in the green.
Verdict: This was a really neat item to get via this subscription! I do with the other parts were included (checking out the Glowpear site, this product usually comes with accessories like mounting equipment, a little stand for indoor use, or a drip tray), but for my purposes/situation, it'll be just fine. I like the clean, neutral design, too. The white color looks modern and cool amidst the pots of my porch garden. I can't wait to see it jam-packed with greenery!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $45.00. Glowpear products start around $80.00, and while I think what I got represents an incomplete kit, it still feels like I got my money's worth.
