Quirky Crate June 2018 Box Review
It's Quirky Crate's birthday this month! Most boxes include info on a featured artist, but this month, that artist is founder Rochelle Nevedal!
Quirky Girl Enamel Pin - Listed Value $10.00
This pin was designed by Rochelle to celebrate the box's first birthday! I love the rainbow sprinkles and the luminous golden setting. The pin itself is just under 1.25 inches wide. I can't decide if I want to sport this colorful cake on my own jacket or give it as a gift to a friend with a summer b-day!
Watermelon Beach Blanket - Listed Value $22.00
This round blanket is a little thinner than I might've wanted, ideally, but it'll still come in handy for setting up a picnic. It kind of has the semi-sheer consistency of a summer scarf. The 100% viscose blanket is about 5 feet across (I'm 5' 3", and you can see how easily it swallows me up) with a cute ivory fringe around the edge. It's not very absorbent, but I could see it making a cute wrap for plodding around the snack bar!
Quirky Girl Beach Flair Bag - Listed Value $28.00
$28.00 feels a liiiiiittle high for what's essentially just a tote bag, but it is a sturdy one, for sure. I like that it has a zipper on top, so you don't have to worry about your sunglasses or keys sliding out while it's slumped over by the pool. The summer images of an ice cream truck, a rainbow, and a unicorn pool float are awfully cute, too. If you didn't dig them, it wouldn't be too hard to stitch a big patch or two over the smaller images (and maybe a big fabric patch over the ice cream truck).
Shooting Star Patch - Listed Value $8.00
I love basically anything involving stars and rainbows, and this patch has both! The construction is really nice—all the stitches are smooth and neat. It's about 3.5" wide from end to end. I can't wait to figure out where to put this iron-on patch... Maybe on the breast of a jacket? Or maybe I can upcycle a not-so-cool dad hat by putting this over an original emblem. If I can't choose, I might just hot glue a pin back to the back side so that I can change up the location as I see fit!
Mirrored Sunnies - Listed Value $15.00
I am really getting into lilac lately, so these sunnies are perfect. These sunglasses are apparently a throwback to this subscription's very first box, which also included some stunner sunnies. I always reach for cat eye glasses, but I've been surprised by how much I love this round shape. Can't wait to wear these to a summer party I have coming up next week!
Flamingo Socks - Listed Value $7.00
Y'know, if you had told me there would be flamingo socks in this box, I would've imagined something totally different than this design. I love that these socks aren't just pink! The yellow stripes, red details, and blue accents make these socks feel summery, playful, and I'll say it, a little bit kooky. I also like that the flamingos aren't just bright hot pink—they're a more authentically flamingo-ish coral hue that really complements the rest of the color palette. So cute!
Reusable Rainbow Party Straws - Listed Value $7.00
LOVE these straws! Not only are their iridescent colors suuuuuper cool, they're also an eco-friendly alternative to plastic waste. I have a few metal straws in my collection already, both in my kitchen and my office desk drawer. The more the merrier, I say! I appreciate that they come with a pipe-cleaner like tool for scrubbing them clean, too.
Unicorn Floating Drink Holder - Listed Value $3.50
These little things are becoming so ubiquitous, and YET! I don't have any use for them really 🙁 I don't have a pool nor access to one that'd let me bring drinks into it. I could see repurposing it as a makeshift centerpiece (just throw some flowers in there, and boom, right?) or just gifting it to someone who can use it. I do appreciate that they valued it as low as they did—otherwise I'd feel bad that I missed out on one of the big items of the box!
The Verdict: I'm a big fan of this subscription box. It's a little on the pricey end, but it makes for a great uplifting treat for myself each month. I could see it making an awesome care package for new grads headed to big cities or new students leaving home in the fall! The quality of the items isn't the most amazing thing, but I've been happy with the fun finds I've gotten. I feel like the quality is there where it counts, like with the enamel pin, the featured patch, this month's tote bag, etc.
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Order soon to get the July box! Order by the 13th of the month to get that month's box. Boxes ship of the 15th of each month.
Value Breakdown: This box cost $40.94 (price + US shipping) and has an estimated value of $100.50 using the values listed on the info card. That means that the average price per item is $5.12.
