Pupjoy is a fully customizable subscription box for dogs. Treats are made in the US, often from smaller or artisan producers. You can select a box for one or multiple dogs, a box containing treats only, toys and accessories only or all three categories of items. Other choices include grain free, protein sensitive, and organic, toy preferences, dog size, and frequency you'd like to receive boxes.

This is a review of the Power Chewers, $39 a month, box. The size selected was “large,” which is 50-100 pounds. (My dog, Nyx, is a Rottweiler who weighs about 84 pounds right now.) I provided a specific list of Nyx’s food issues (that we know of) and the treats were selected according to her dietary requirements (she has inflammatory bowel disease).

Pupjoy June 2018 Review

Pupjoy can vary a lot from subscriber to subscriber depending on what parameters you select during sign-up.  But let’s see what they sent for a large-breed dog with IBD:

I didn’t actually receive an information card this month, but since the boxes are customized, that’s OK.

Lucky Premium Treats Apple Rings (3 oz)

Lucky Premium Treats Apple Rings (3 oz) – Retail Value $7

First up, a treat Nyx can have. Yay! These are just dehydrated apples but since Nyx gets treats so infrequently, she likes them just as much as meatier treats that healthy dogs can have. She holds these with her paws and bites them into pieces – it is so funny.

American Dog Nylon Infinity Tug – Retail Value $14

So, I didn’t see this item in the Pupjoy shop, but there is one in the Bullymake Shop that is like exactly the same thing with a different brand name slapped on it (I know because we’ve gotten them from Bullymake Box before). Nyx definitely can destroy these nylon toys but they hold her interest for awhile and this one is good for playing tug, which is her favorite thing to do.

Clear Conscience Pet Lamb Airy Bites (2.8 oz) – Retail Value $9.95

These are made mostly from lamb lung with some added flax seeds and vegetables for color and to add nutrition. If the apples sit OK with Nyx, I’m going to try these next, because I actually don’t think she has had lamb before (I can’t remember it, anyway) and she may be OK with it. But, we have to introduce new treats very slowly. These look promising, though!

Ruffdawg Dawg Nut (xl)

Ruffdawg Dawg Nut (xl) – Retail Value $18.99

This is made from rubber and is sort of bouncy. One thing I have found Nyx likes, perhaps due to the texture of this one, is if I put it in the freezer and let it get cold. So that’s what we’ve been doing. This apparently also floats but Nyx hates the water so we can’t test that out. Still, would be good for fetch at the lake if your dog isn’t water-phobic.

Sodapup Lifesaver Toy – Retail Value $17

This is another one I’ve received from Bullymake Box in the past. Sodapup toys show up in dog subscription boxes often, especially ones for heavy chewers. This is a bit more open on the other side and there’s a ridge behind which I spread a little peanut butter, which keeps Nyx occupied for a very long time.

Here are some shots of Nyx with the infinity tug and anticipating an apple ring.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $66.94 for the June 2018 Pupjoy Power Chewers Box. The toys were all quite durable (and size appropriate for a large breed dog) and Pupjoy’s customization means even a dog with as many dietary issues as Nyx has a shot at trying the treats.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first box would probably be July's. Also, box content can vary a lot based on your dog’s profile quiz. (Some past boxes may be available in the Pupjoy shop.)

Coupon – Use code MSABONUS to get free bonus goodies with your first order. 2 extra items with any Uno Box plan, 3 extra on Grande or Power Chewer plans.

Value Breakdown: At $44 for this box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Apple rings $4.60
  • Infinity tug $9.20
  • Lamb airy bites $6.54
  • Orange ring $12.48
  • Lifesaver toy $11.17
