Beach Box May 2018 Review

This is my first box from Beach Box and I am surprised at how full it feels:

Bongo Juniors' One-Piece Swimsuit, L -

Bongo Juniors' One-Piece Swimsuit, size L - Retail Value $19.08

For my first bathing suit choice, I choose a one-piece in a size L (I usually size up for one-pieces). I’m glad I did since this is a junior’s cut. It’s cute and trendy and fits pretty well with moderate hip and butt coverage. There are removable cups for extra coverage and shape and the strappy back gives it a little sass. I’m not super impressed that this suit is sold online at Sears and KMart. Beach Box says they include “top of the line swimwear” and this just doesn’t fit that description to me.

Well, here are some products I’m happy to see! John and I recently went to Costa Rica for our honeymoon so it holds a special place in my heart. I love that Pura Vida products embody the Costa Rican way of life and help artisans all over the world. Two pieces are included:

Silver Lotus Sage Bracelet - Estimated Value $15 (I’m linking to the charm bracelet page of the Pura Vida store because I can’t find this exact bracelet listed.)

This is my first Pura Vida bracelet and I love it. I see why the subscription is so popular. This is cute and dainty and perfect for stacking. It’s also adjustable so it should fit any size wrist. I’d be happy to get a new bracelet every month in this box.

Silver Wave Ring, Size 7 - Retail Value $12

The second Pura Vida item is a .925 silver wave ring. I’m impressed that it is real silver! It fits my finger perfectly and is comfortable enough that I forget it’s there.

Skinny and Co. Body Butter, 2oz

Skinny and Co. Body Butter, 2oz - Estimated Value $14.95 (I’m linking to the Rose scented version of this body butter, but this is the Almond Oil scent.)

This little jar of whipped coconut and sweet almond oil does not like to stay in whipped form and is melty even at room temp. I had to stick it in the fridge to get it to solidify. Either way, it’s very moisturizing and good for many things like soothing razor burn, nourishing dry skin, and calming irritated areas. The blend of essential oils must have a bit of peppermint so I don’t use this around my eyes. But, it does feel great on a sunburn!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Compact and Lip Gloss Set in Kristen, .07oz  - Estimated Value $7 (Buy .16oz for $16)

I was just thinking that I needed a compact mirror for my purse and look what arrived! I like that it’s has both a regular side and a magnified side. The lip gloss is thick but not sticky and is moisturizing. This shade seems to shift on me though. On areas of thicker application, it almost has a grey cast, while thinner areas show more of an orange cast. I find myself blotting it off a bit to leave some color while thinning it out.

iDecoz Phone Mirror, Gold Square with Crystals

iDecoz Phone Mirror, Gold Square with Crystals - Retail Value $9.99

I’ll never be left without a mirror again! This restickable, unbreakable mirror works on any phone or any case. It has a nice feel to it and is large enough to see almost my whole face at once. It has a bit of funhouse mirror effect but I just made sure I stuck it on so my face looked slimmed instead of widened. 🙂

Treat Marshmallow Moisture Stick, 14g

Treat Marshmallow Moisture Stick, 14g - Retail Value $13.99

I keep lip balm everywhere because nothing is more distracting than uncomfortable, chapped lips. This jumbo tube is perfect for lips but is actually a moisture stick for anywhere on the body. The mix of oils and butters sink right in and the marshmallow scent makes me smell like a fancy coffee. Plus, it’s organic and cruelty-free.

Beautanic Beauty Radiant Glow Sheet Mask, Set of 2

Beautanic Beauty Radiant Glow Sheet Mask, Set of 2 - Total Retail Value $12 ($6 per mask)

These sheet masks have Vitamin C and AHA to help brighten and refresh skin. I like that they included these because it feels so good to put a chilled mask on after being in the sun. I didn’t experience irritation and my skin looked plump and hydrated afterward. I don’t know if I’d pay $6 per mask but I’m glad to get them.

Buff Bake Protein Cookie, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, 80g

Buff Bake Protein Cookie, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, 80g - Estimated Value $2 (Buy a pack of 6 for $11.99)

I like the idea here, but I can’t get into the taste. It’s very protein-y and I’m very picky. There are 300 calories and 16g of protein per cookie. I’ve found protein bars that I like better with more protein and less calories.

Buff Bake Protein Cookie, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, 80g

Buff Bake Protein Cookie, Chocolate Donut, 80g - Estimated Value $2 (Buy a pack of 6 for $11.99)

Same as above. I’m happy that two different flavors were included though. And, John ended up finishing them so, if you don’t mind that protein flavor, you might like them.

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask, .4oz sample

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask, .4oz sample (Not including in the total value)

I’ve heard so many great things about Briogeo. I really like this mask! The sample was large enough to get one treatment out of it and it left my hair softer and less thirsty looking. No silicones means it fits the Curly Girl method too.

Verdict: My first Beach Box is pretty fun. It’s packed with stuff and well curated for the beach/travel theme. There’s a little skin care, jewelry, and makeup, plus a swimsuit and some snacks. I was hoping for a little more “top of the line” with the swimwear, but the suit is cute and fits well. The other items will be great to toss in my beach bag or suitcase because they are all travel-friendly. The total value of this box is $108.01 with free shipping. I’m not sure if I get to make a new selection of swimwear every month, I’ll have to check with them and see. If so, I’d love to try something different and hopefully receive more handy products in my next box.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Your box will vary depending on your style and size preferences.

I like the idea of this box and am very interested to see how the next few months are in your review! Thanks for the great review as well! That lip color looks beautiful on you! You’ll find that the Pura Vida jewelry is not only pretty, but also well made. I’ve been a fan of them even before they had their subscription (which I LOVE). The bracelet is coated with a wax that softens from your bodyheat the longer you wear it, but still stays nicely intact unlike some thread bracelets which fray and unravel fast.

Hmmm…an every other month version of this would be tempting!

I thought this was a really cute box! Was picturing more of like sunscreen, sunglasses or a towel. But this box was really cute

I really love the idea and theme of this sub box, but don’t really love the curation. I hope they choose to curate higher quality swimsuits. I’d subscribe with that one change, as I swim every day and can never have too many suits.

Also, maybe it’s just me, but if I’m going to ingest 300 calories in one cookie, it had better be a delicious baked treat, not like the ones shown.

I love Treat Beauty products. I like to use the Moisturizing stick on my cuticles.

I like everything but the suit! Lol. It’s a good concept for a box, but bathing suits are so deeply personal a choice. I love my Pura Vida sub! Nice to see their products in other subs. It’s a great company.

What protein bars do you like? I’m always looking for good ones. Thanks

Quest bars are the best tasting I have found. The blueberry muffin and white chocolate raspberry are my favorites

Seems like a box I might want to try during summer months, but not sure a year round sub would work for me. I need something like this June – September & an Alaska – snow freezing temps theme the rest of the year, but this looks great for Summer!!! I will sign up for bikini or sarong based on this review!

Hmmmm….don’t need a bunch of suits but maybe the sarong? I liked the other products quite a bit. I order from Treat and their products are all yummy!
