Nomadik April 2018 Review

I’m really loving the new info booklet from Nomadik. We’ve got full product descriptions, tips, discounts, and the monthly challenge laid out in a compact design. This is the second month they’ve run this new booklet design and it’s definitely making the box feel like a higher-end experience than before. This month’s theme is Earth Friendly, and we get a box focusing on re-use and reduction of our impact on the environment.

Ecovessel Boulder Insulated Bottle with Strainer – Retail Value $29.95

First up this month we get this stainless steel vacuum insulated bottle from Ecovessel! This bottle has some pretty cool features. The lid is attached with a rubber strap so it’s not going to get lost. Bonus, the strap is wide and soft and I found myself carrying the bottle around using the strap. There’s a removable tea/fruit strainer piece that fits in the mouth of the bottle so you can flavor your water on the go. You can easily unscrew the tip of the lid and it turns into a sport bottle too, if wide mouth isn’t your thing. I tested out the hot time on this and it easily kept my coffee piping hot for 3 hours (with the lid on) and would likely last the full 12 hours they specify as long as it remained sealed. It’s a pretty good size, just under a foot tall and has roughly the circumference of a soda can. It clocked in at 418g empty, about 2.5x the weight of a standard Nalgene bottle, but a Nalgene isn’t going to keep anything hot or cold for very long, so the added weight is definitely worth it in my book.

Mizu Camp Cup

Mizu Camp Cup – Retail Value $18.95

Next up we get this glossy black camp cup from Mizu! Mizu is a brand we’ve seen in Nomadik before and I have to say this item is much nicer than the collapsible cup from Feb 2017. The Camp Cup is made of dual-wall, vacuum sealed stainless steel so it’s going to keep your drink insulated whether cold or hot. It’s a great pair with the Ecovessel - hot coffee after an unexpected rainy hike is the ultimate pick-me-up. The mug has a nice weight to it, and the handle feels strong enough to hang from your pack to help dry the mug out during a hike.

UCO Sweetfire Strikeable Fire Starters – Retail Value $5.99

Finally this month we get this innovative new product from UCO - another brand I’ve come to know thanks to Nomadik. Sweetfire starters are made from bagasse - a fibrous byproduct from refining sugarcane - and vegetable wax, and the tips are strikeable. This pack of 20 comes with a spare striker so you don’t have to carry the full box with you on every trip - just a handful or strip of the “points” and the striker piece and you’re well on your way to getting a couple days worth of fires going. Each point burns for 7 minutes, which should be plenty of time to get a nice little stack of kindling ablaze. I’m really surprised I haven’t seen or heard about a product like this before.

Verdict: Nomadik was pretty great this month. The items fit the theme well, and all seem high quality to boot. They promise up to $50 worth of items in each box, and this month’s retail value comes out to $54.89. We’re definitely over the initial cost, but again cutting it close if any of the products aren’t useful for you personally.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will start with the June box.

I absolutely loved this box, I have a Teavana thermos that is a smaller version of this (at the same price) and it always leaked, so I’m so glad to have a larger version with the same strainer. Yay! The mug was also awesome and matches are always handy to have around.

Nice! It’s always awesome to be able to replace old/fading gear with fresh stuff from a sub.
