Love With Food Gluten Free May 2018 Review

I'm excited to explore this month's gluten-free Love with Food box. I don't eat a strictly gluten-free diet, but my husband and I cook and eat gluten-conscious due to the widespread health benefits of cutting back on grains and carbs. Ready to see what's inside?

Love With Food GF May 2018 You Love Fruit

Love With Food GF May 2018 Mango Snacks Love With Food GF May 2018 Mango Chews

Love With Food GF May 2018 Fruit Snacks

You Love Fruit Simply Mango, 0.5 oz. – Buy a 30-pack for $34.99 (found here for $24.99)

This snack is kind of like an adult version of a fruit roll-up, presented in a candy-dot-like way! The mango medallions are pretty similar to fruit leathers but much smaller and a little less tough to chew. There were only 8 in the package, but tasted pretty good!

Love With Food GF May 2018 Whenever Bars

Love With Food GF May 2018 Granola Bar

Love With Food GF May 2018 Oat Cherry Bar

Pamela's Oat Cranberry Almond Whenever Bars, 1.4 oz - Buy a pack of 5 for $11.46

Despite being called a Whenever "Bar," this snack is basically a cookie. A really yummy gluten-free cookie! It's soft and sweet, and as long as you're not expecting something super healthy, you're probably going to love it.

Love With Food GF May 2018 That's It Love With Food GF May 2018 That's It Bar

Love With Food GF May 2018 Cinnamon Apple Bar

That’s It. Apple + Cinnamon Zesty Fruit Bar, 1.2 oz -  Buy 12 for $12.74

This bar is from the brand "That's It." and on the front of the package, it says that apples and cinnamon are the only ingredients. I thought surely that'd be disproven as soon as I flipped it over, but actually, the ingredients list just says "apples, cinnamon." Say what!? It does indeed taste pretty much just like dried apples and cinnamon when you bite into it, with a soft consistency. I'm not sure how this bar works since it doesn't have any preservatives in it, but it seems legit!

Love With Food GF May 2018 Schar Bread

Love With Food GF May 2018 GF Bread

Love With Food GF May 2018 Deli Bread

Schar Gluten Free, Artisan Baker 10 Grains & Seeds Bread, 2.1 oz. – Buy 3 loaves for $ 21.70

I thought a pack of bread was a funny thing to receive in my box, haha! Most of the time I keep a loaf of Ezekiel Bread in my freezer for when I'm craving some toast or need it for a recipe. It's not gluten-free, but it's made from sprouted grains, so it has more protein, fiber, and absorbable vitamins and minerals. But it's also honestly not that amazing—its consistency is a little off. The first time I tried gluten-free bread was in a recent meal subscription box and I couldn't believe how soft and real-bread-like it was. This 10 grains and seeds bread is also really good. It's soft and healthy-tasting. I don't eat many sandwiches, so I popped it in the toaster to have with eggs in the morning. I loved it!

Love With Food GF May 2018 Made Good

Love With Food GF May 2018 Rice Crispies Love With Food GF May 2018 Puffed Rice Snack

Madegood Vanilla Crispy Squares,  2 x 0.78 oz – Buy 6 bars for $3.99 (found here for $3.19, currently out of stock)

Hello, Rice Krispie Treats! These look smell, and taste like one of the classic treats, but are made with vegetarian ingredients and supposedly have powdered veggies in them. I sure didn't taste 'em, so they're hidden well. Definitely a dessert and not a protein boost. Still, I can only imagine that given the organic nature and simple ingredients list of this snack, it's better for you than the original take on it.

Love With Food GF May 2018 Pork Clouds Love With Food GF May 2018 Pork Puffs Love With Food GF May 2018 Pork Rinds

Pork Clouds in Rosemary and Sea Salt, 0.7 oz. – Buy 3, 2 oz bags for $10

I've received this snack in a different flavor in the past and while I can't bear to bring myself to eat pork rinds of any sort, my husband gave them a go and thought they had a good flavor. He said they're light, crunchy, and the rosemary is nice—pretty much what he expected them to be before digging in.

Love With Food GF May 2018 Protein Powder

Love With Food GF May 2018 Pea Protein

Tru Women “You’re Mocha Me Cocoa” Protein Powder, 0.98 oz – Buy 10 packets for $24.99

My husband and I have tried a lot of different protein shakes and are always—like many others, I’m sure—searching for the perfect powder that’s high in protein, low in sugar, and doesn’t taste super fake. This one was pretty good! We mixed it with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and shared it after a workout (we couldn’t figure out how/why it’s geared toward women as we couldn’t find any ingredients that men should avoid, that we know of). It was good! It definitely tasted sweeter than we expected for only having 1g of sugar, which I believe is due to the Stevia. To the best of my knowledge, our bodies process sugar-like products the same way they do regular ol’ sugar, but oh well, we enjoyed this mix!

This item was also sent in May's Love With Food Deluxe Box.

Love With Food GF May 2018 Montmorency Cherries

Love With Food GF May 2018 Cherries

Love With Food GF May 2018 Dried Cherries

Stoneridge Orchards Montmorency Cherries, 1 oz. – Buy 5 oz for $5.99 (found on sale here for $4.99)

I've never been a real cherry lover, nor a dried fruit lover, so I wasn't really poised for success with this snack. Plus, it has 17g of sugars and less than 1g of protein, so it really would be an indulgence that wouldn't be worth it for me. I think I'll keep them around anyway, in case I need something to add to my oatmeal or muesli—probably,if mixed with other textures and flavors, it would be a little more appetizing/exciting!

This item was also sent in May's Love With Food Deluxe Box.

Love With Food GF May 2018 Beef Jerky

Love With Food GF May 2018 Jerky

Country Archer Original Beef Stick, 1 oz. – Retail Value $2.00

Jerky is another food item that I am not too keen on, so I passed this over to my husband. He said it's pretty straightforward and delicious! We both love that it is made with 100% grass-fed beef.

Love With Food GF May 2018 Chebe Mix Love With Food GF May 2018 Chebe

Love With Food GF May 2018 Cinnamon Roll Mix

Love With Food GF May 2018 GF Cinnamon Roll Mix

Chebe Gluten Free Cinnamon Roll Mix, 7.5 oz. - Buy 8 boxes for $20.50

Woah, how good do the cinnamon rolls on the front of this box look? I opened the box expecting to find all the mixes I'd need to whip up a quick batch, but it turns out all that's provided is the mix for the dough itself. You have to provide your own brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter for the filling. I guess in that case, you can really make whatever type of rolls you want with it! As much as I wanted to make this mix immediately, I'll be saving it for a special occasion or when we have guests over.

The Verdict: While I personally wasn't a fan of every single snack in this month's Love with Food Gluten-Free box, they all ended up being enjoyed by someone in my household. And since you receive so many in a box, there are plenty to go around! This month brought a combo of familiar and new-to-me snacks, and it's always fun to learn about brands that I haven't tried before. Value-wise, I'd say this box is a good deal, especially when you consider that it saves snackers the trouble of having to sift through nutrition labels at the grocery store and they can just dive right in!

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? If you order today, you will receive the June box.

Limited Time Deal: Now through 6/30, use this link to get a FREE $20-value bonus box with any subscription of 6-months or longer, plus use coupon code SASS18 to save an additional $10 off their Tasting, Gluten Free or Deluxe plans.

Coupon – Get 40% off your first box! no coupon required, just use this link!

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $24.99 + $3.99 shipping, which means that each of the 11 items in the box has an average cost of $2.63.

Bodies definitely don’t process stevia the same way as sugar, it’s not at all similar from a chemical standpoint, which is why it’s non-caloric (the same enzymes can’t metabolize it). Same with aspartame, acesulfame K, sucralose, etc., although *some* stevia products are isolated from plants (others are expressed in modified bacteria) and those other three compounds I mentioned are chemically synthesized and/or modified.

I actually don’t like the taste of stevia at all. Sometimes when it is mixed with other sweeteners, I find it tolerable, but it is really not my thing.

Thanks for your input, Ragan! Alas, we must be getting our research from different sources. It can be so hard to sift through new health studies and know what to believe, so I think it’s just as important to listen to our bodies and try to stick what feels right for our specific needs and lifestyles.

I got the same Chebe mix for the cinnamon rolls, and made them immediately. They are really good, but super small. We have 4 people in our house, and this made 12 mini cinnamon rolls, so they were gone in a flash! This box was overall a hit, although the pork cloud things just sat open after we tried a few and no one would eat them so I finally tossed them. I wish we would have gotten more cherries instead, those are amazing! Those mango things are deceiving, you only get the 8 tiny dots and the rest is paper. It seems like you would get more food in there!

Oh man I can’t wait to try the cinnamon rolls. We only have 2 in our house, but I know they’ll be gone in a flash anyway! Glad you enjoyed your box this month!

I literally gag at the thought of eating skin. And this is coming from a major meat-eater. I just can’t do skin.
