I'm reviewing The Perfect Mother.

The Perfect Mother - Retail Value $27.99 (On Amazon for $12.99.)

Book Summary from Amazon:

A night out. A few hours of fun. That’s all it was meant to be.

They call themselves the May Mothers—a group of new moms whose babies were born in the same month. Twice a week, they get together in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park for some much-needed adult time.

When the women go out for drinks at the hip neighborhood bar, they want a fun break from their daily routine. But on this hot Fourth of July night, something goes terrifyingly wrong: one of the babies is taken from his crib. Winnie, a single mom, was reluctant to leave six-week-old Midas with a babysitter, but her fellow May Mothers insisted everything would be fine. Now he is missing. What follows is a heart-pounding race to find Midas, during which secrets are exposed, marriages are tested, and friendships are destroyed.

Thirteen days. An unexpected twist. The Perfect Mother is a "true page turner." —B.A. Paris, author of Behind Closed Doors

I decided to pick this book after I read that it is "soon to be a major motion picture starring Scandal's Kerry Washington." I know I'm going to see that movie, so I should read the book first, right? I think hearing that it was optioned for a movie and was being called the "most anticipated book of the summer" pretty much only set me up for disappointment. I didn't hate it by any means, but it didn't wow me either.

At first, I was having difficulty keeping track of the characters with the different POVs, and I didn't find the story as gripping as I anticipated. On the flip side, since I'm not a mom, this book gave me a little more insight into all the pressures moms face to be perfect in every way. (Those emails at the top of each chapter were giving me anxiety just as a reader!)

If you picked this book this month, please let me know what you think of it!

Verdict:  The value of the Book of the Month subscription is great. The variety of new books offered is awesome and the prices are still better than Amazon for new hardcover releases. If one book a month won't cut it, you can also add-ons books from previous months for $9.99. I like that you also have the option to skip a month.

I got the same book and also felt it was a bit overhyped. The characters weren’t as well developed as they could be and there were so many of them and so many different points of view that I was often confused. I did enjoy the the ending though. Looking forward to next month!

I got The Mars Room and my oh my it was good. It had a very different, to me, style of writing which was refreshing. I loved all the characters good and bad and the ending, well I never saw it coming. So glad I picked that one instead of this one, which I almost did.
