Marc Jacobs Fools Gold Mystery Bag April 2018 Review

Enamored Hi-Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer in Uproar, .16 oz

Enamored Hi-Shine Gloss Lip Lacquer in Uproar, .16 oz - Retail Value $28

I consider Marc Jacobs to be the gold standard in lip gloss — they always have great shine and are usually really comfortable to wear. Uproar was no exception, though when I first saw it in person I was a bit nervous about how bright and orange it was. Not to worry, it applied as a sheer orange-nude with shimmer, and I think it is a wearable color for almost anyone. Swatched below!

Le Marc Liquid Lip Creme in Shush, Blush, .19 oz

Le Marc Liquid Lip Creme in Shush, Blush, .19 oz - Retail Value $28

I loved the Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon that came in the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some New Lip kit, so I was excited to try the creme version of the product! This was creamy and easy to apply, plus it was very comfortable to wear. Unfortunately, it transferred a lot, and this is a lipstick you would definitely have to reapply after you ate. That being said, I love this color! Shush, Blush is described as a deep pink, and I would call this almost a deep mauve wine color. I have a lot of liquid lipsticks, but none quite this color, so I will be wearing it happily— even if I need to reapply. Swatched below!

Twinkle Pop Eyeshadow Stick in Volver, .05 oz

Twinkle Pop Eyeshadow Stick in Volver, .05 oz - Retail Value $28

This peach champagne shimmer eyeshadow is so creamy, it really just glides onto your eyelids. I love eyeshadows like this because I think it’s the perfect color for day-to-day wear that just brightens your eyes. The shimmer is there but my eyelids don't look like a disco-ball, and I really feel like it makes the yellow flecks in my eyes stand out more.

Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Mari(Gold), .01 oz

Highliner Gel Eye Crayon in Mari(Gold), .01 oz - Retail Value $25

I have tried the highliner in black and brown, and while it has always been a creamy and smooth eyeliner it hadn't changed my mind on my preference for liquid liners. This golden peach eye crayon definitely made me reconsider! I still prefer black liquid liner for my top lid, but I love this gorgeous shade on my lower lash line. The creaminess makes it super easy to just swipe and move on, and it really makes my eyes pop. I also think it pairs really well with the twinkle pop eyeshadow, because while similar there is enough contrast to add just a smidgen of a difference, which I think brightens my overall eye look even more.

Here are the swatches! Top row is the eyeshadow stick and lip gloss, bottom row is the eyeliner and lip creme.

Here is Duchess investigating the swatches. She approved, too!

Here I am wearing the eyeshadow, eyeliner, and lipstick, along with my basic foundation, black liquid eyeliner, and mascara.

And here is a closeup where you can see my the eyeliner better. I also took the lip gloss and dabbed it on my fingers and then dabbed the gloss on my lips to add some shine and a little sparkle.

The Verdict: I am a Marc Jacobs fan in general, but I was really happy to see two products I have tried and loved and two products that are new to me. The color palette of golds and oranges are perfect for spring, and the formulas are stellar. I also appreciate that all of the included colors work great together in a cohesive look. Marc Jacobs is a brand I will pay full price for, so getting four full sized items for a total cost of $54.95 with a total value of $109 is pretty great. Plus, sometimes mystery boxes are a way for companies to get rid of old inventory. Since all of the products included in this box are available for sale on the Marc Jacobs website at full price, I believe it is safe to say that is not the case in this instance.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this is still available!

Value Breakdown: This box cost $54.95 ($49 for the box and $5.95 shipping) and I calculated a total value of $109. That means you are paying approximately the following per item.

  • Lip Lacquer: $14.12
  • Lip Creme: $14.12
  • Eyeshadow Stick: $14.12
  • Highliner: $12.60

I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Hi Kara! Thank you for your kind words. I used vinyls specifically for makeup swatches to get the butterfly shape!

Those colors are beautiful. If I wasn’t swimming in beauty products, I would not have hesitated to buy.

Hey, Jessica,

The products look so great on you! I think the lipgloss would look very pretty on many different skin tones and is a nice color for Spring! Thanks again for another great review!
