Sephora Favorites Give Me Some New Lip Kit January 2018 Review

I was so excited to try new products from Marc Jacobs, Fenty, and more! Let's see if the products live up to the hype. All swatches will be at the bottom of the review:

Huda Beauty Lip Strobe in Snobby, .07 fl oz.

Huda Beauty Lip Strobe in Snobby, .07 fl oz.

Huda Beauty Lip Strobe in Snobby, .07 fl oz. - Estimated Value $7.20 (buy a full-size tube for $18)

I have been wanting to try Huda Beauty for a while! The lip strobe is described as being the ultimate add-on to your lip game, with the collection designed to be used alone or on top of matte liquid lipsticks for different effects. I got a lot of lip game, Y'all, so this lippie is right up my alley. The color snobby has a pink and gold pearlescent finish, and on its own, it is a sheer wash of color with a little shimmer. It is a little sticky on its own, but one recommended way of wearing it is over a liquid lipstick than blotted with a tissue. That way, there is no stickiness and all of the shimmer. I am here for it! I think it pairs perfectly with the next item in this box.

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Candy Venom,

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick in Candy Venom, .035 fl oz. - Estimated Value $10.50 (buy the 0.06 oz. full-sized tube for $18)

Hello, hot vivid pink. If I were to come up with a lip color to fit the name “Candy Venom,” I definitely would have picked this shade of bright pink. Does this make Rihanna and I soul sisters? I think it does and I won’t be dissuaded. All that aside, this is a product from Fenty Beauty's newest release, the Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick. Sephora released this lip kit on the same day Fenty released their newest lipstick, so I was really excited to be able to get it a sample of it in this kit in such a timely manner (which I guess is the point of the theme “new” lip. It glides on smoothly, however, it wasn’t long wearing on me the way the product was described to be. I probably wouldn't buy this particular product in its full-sized version.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon in Night Mauves

Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon in Night Mauves

Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Liquid Lip Crayon in Night Mauves, Full Size! Retail Value $26

I love anything and everything Marc Jacobs, but I was skeptical when I heard of this new product release. Liquid lipstick? In lip crayon? That lasts as long as a liquid lipstick? Sounds crazy, right? BUT IT REALLY WORKS, Y’ALL. Ever since I tried this product I have been singing its praises to all of my friends. It is insanely comfortable to wear, but it actually lasts as long as my other liquid lipsticks! My favorite liquid lipstick is Kat Von D, and when I compare this lip crayon to KVD, I rate them as about the same. My KVD lip color will probably last just a touch longer than the lip crayon, but this lip crayon is SO comfortable to wear. Plus the shade Night Mauves is a really wearable nude lip on me, so bonus points for that.

Smashbox Always On Metallic Matte in XO, Vlada,

Smashbox Always On Metallic Matte in XO, Vlada,

Smashbox Always On Metallic Matte in XO, Vlada,  Full Size! Retail Value $24

Oh, you thought there would only be one full-sized product in a kit like this? Lol, same, but there are two full-sized lippies in this little box of happies. While the Marc Jacobs is a great neutral color for everyone, this metallic rose gold shade is for the bold and daring. I definitely would not wear this to work, however, I would wear it on a night out with my girls when I’ve used a lot of highlighter and just want my entire face to glow. I also think this would be pretty applied to the center of your lips when wearing a more neutral shade, and then blending it out with your finger. This formula isn't drying on my lips, but it doesn't wear as long as my KVD shades do on me.

treStiQue Mini Plumping Lip Balm in Barbados Berry, .21 oz

treStiQue Mini Plumping Lip Balm in Barbados Berry, .21 oz

treStiQue Mini Plumping Lip Balm in Barbados Berry, .21 oz.- Estimate Value ? (not available for purchase yet. Click here to join the waitlist and be notified when this brand new product is released).

This kit was probably the biggest surprises for me. I thought it was your general run of the mill lip balm, but it turns out this product hasn't even been released for sale yet! The full-size version will include a lip scrub and cost $25, but I don't know the weight of the full-sized version, so I am not sure how to calculate the value. I like this as a simple lip balm. It gives a nice wash of color without being sticky. I didn't really notice any plumping effects on my lips, but perhaps the plumping feature will be more prominent when used with the lip scrub. I don't really care for a plumping lip look on my lip balms, so this is actually better for me anyway!.

Here are the swatches! From top to bottom is the treStiQue, Huda beauty, Fenty, Smashbox, and Marc Jacobs.

The Verdict: This Give Me Some New Lip Kit had me at Marc Jacobs, and the fact that is a full sized one at that blows my mind. If you're wanting to try this lippie out, (and honestly, everyone who likes lip color should try this product) you can buy this kit for only $2 more, and still get a full sized one to try. I love that every product in this box is new and/or trendy in some way, and all of the brands are established brands you can buy at Sephora. Full disclosure: I may buy a second one to have backups of everything, that's how much I love this kit.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this is still available for purchase! Click here to buy this wonderful box of lip joy.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $28 + shipping (depending on your beauty insider status, your order may ship free). I couldn't figure out a value for the treStiQue lip balm, BUT Sephora promises an $80 value in this box. The cost of everything except the lip balm adds up to $67.70, which would make the lip balm cost about $13.30. On average, each of the 5 items in the box cost $5.60.

Hi Jessica, thanks for ur review!
Was hesitant on buying it when I first saw it cuz the color seems way too warm/bright for my taste.
But after reading ur review, just gotta pull the trigger and have that MJ! Lol
Such a gorgeous color.
I’m looking forward to try the smashbox as well 😉

Just as a FYI- My Marc Jacobs lipstick broke and went I went to exchange the kit today my store had pulled them to send them back. I was pretty surprised as it is fairly new. Definitely worth it but be careful that the MJ is fragile.

Jenna

Same happened here, definitely disappointed (especially since I don’t live by a store to exchange). So yeah… The MJ is fragile!

Hello again, Jessica! Thanks for your honest review. I can’t wait to try Fenty’s Candy Venom with the Huda Beauty lip strobe on top. Keep up the awesome reviews!

I thought about picking this up but I already have the Huda gloss and the Trestique product won’t work for me since I have smaller lips and would need a more precise applicator.

This has nothing to do with the review or the person reviewing, but is Haley Faye coming back soon? I’m so used to her Sephora insider hints and looks she creates and photographs for us.

My skin in more light/warm undertones. None of these colors would look good on me.

I am holding out to order this until Feb 1 so I can add my VIB Birthday Gift into the order. I hope it’s still in stock because it’s a fantastic little kit and I *really* want that chubby little Trestique balm and the Marc Jacobs pencil. Great review!

Carolann

When’s your birthday? Mine isn’t until February either but the option to add on my birthday gift is already there.

AmyM

Mine is the 26th. I’m going to check right now! Thanks for the tip!

Jackie

Thank you for the review! I’d love to see the Huda layered on top of something, that sounds really interesting.

They had me at Marc Jacobs too! I bought this last week and love the MC lippie, Huda and treStiQue. I’m going to have to play with the Smashbox one as it doesn’t work for me as a stand alone item. The Fenty one was really dry and kind of messy, though a beautiful color.

Hi Lori! Thanks for reading! For trying out the smashbox I recommend pairing it with the Marc jacobs Lippie or similar color. Dab a bit of the smashbox in the center of your lips and pat it with your fingers, blending it out. That way you get a touch of color contrast but not so much that it takes you completely out of your comfort zone. I tried that this morning and I loved the subtle shimmer!

I bought this and really like everything except for the treStiQue due to the packaging. The shape of the packaging and the shape of product are just too cumbersome to make it worth it.

It is definitely a unique packaging shape!

Thank you for the review, for the life of me I could not get my tresique to open, now I know to turn, will go home and try.
