GiftLit April 2018 Review

Before receiving my books, I received a card in the mail from GiftLit that welcomed me and provided my gift code. One thing I really like about this service is that you always have the option to go online and swap out any of the books you’re scheduled to receive. This is great to ensure that recipients get books that they really want and don’t end up with any books that they already have or are not interested in. They also allow you to return any book that is shipped to you within 30 days.

My book came wrapped in this bright, colorful paper. This is an option that costs an extra $3/month. It’s nice that they have this option, but when you’re paying for a gift subscription, I feel like this is one of those things that should already be included.

Gaston by Kelly DiPucchio - Retail Value $17.99 (Found here for $15.01)

The picture book we received this month was a nice hardback copy of Gaston, a story about a little bulldog who doesn’t quite fit in with his poodle siblings. The story was fun and a little bit silly and since the main characters were all dogs or puppies, my children both loved it. We liked looking at the illustrations of all the animals and it was fun to learn the names of all the puppies such as Fi-Fi and Foo-Foo. I had never heard of this book before so it was nice to be introduced to something new!

Merry Makers Gaston Stuffed Animal - Retail Value $16.00 (found here for $15.72)

It was so much fun to receive a matching stuffed animal with our book. I think it made the book feel just a bit more special. My kids really enjoyed that they had a real-life version of the dog from the story. It made it easy for them to become engaged in the story. The stuffed animal was well made and looks just like the puppy from the story.

Verdict: The total value of the book and stuffed animal was $33.99. The cost of GiftLit is $33.41 per month ($172.46 for 6 months + $28 shipping) with the option of paying $3 for gift-wrapping the book. While my kids and I really liked the book and the stuffed dog to go with it, the value isn’t quite there, especially when you consider the sale prices. This subscription service does offer a lot of different books and various collections, so the value could change a lot depending on your choices and even vary from month to month. I do think this is a great gift for a book lover since you really can’t go wrong with them being able to choose their own books if they want to, but it just depends on what you’re comfortable spending.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, you can order this collection and customize it so that you receive the same books.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I think book should be $20 if it’s a hard back (cheaper if not) and stuffed animal around 8$ Too high for me, but cute idea!
