Cosmo Box Subscription Review + Coupon – April 2018

There's a new subscription box from Cosmopolitan - CosmoBox! Each month you'll receive items selected by Cosmopolitan editors.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: CosmoBox by Cosmopolitan

The Cost: $19.99 a box + $6 shipping

The Products: "Curated by the editors of Cosmopolitan magazine, this unique monthly subscription box brings you full-size quality goodies that compliment and empower your multidimensional lifestyle."

Ships to: US

Keep track of your subscriptions: Add this box to your subscription list or wish list!

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included:

Give off major Boss vibes with this month's batch of hand-picked goodies - whether you've already nailed your dream job or just slay all day in your mind.

Now, on to the items!

Sweet Water Decor Boss Lady Travel Mug - Retail Value $19.99

This is a 16oz insulated plastic travel mug with a gold metallic (plastic) lid.

It's BPA, Phthalate,  and Lead Free. (Handwash only, do not microwave.)

Here it is in hand to give you a better sense of scale:

Jewelry Love Shoppe Custom Bracelet - Retail Value $15

(Subscribers will either receive a bracelet that says "Level Up" or "#SLAY")

The bracelet is made of aluminum, is lightweight, adjustable, and won't tarnish or discolor skin. Here it is on:

Sweet Water Decor Black Ink BallPoint Pen Set - Retail Value $17.99

These pens measure 4.5 inches long (shorter than your standard pen), and they twist to reveal the pen point.

There are three different phrases on the pens: "Bossy Lady" "Hustle, Darling" and "Like a Boss."

Here is a quick sampling of the ink:

Poppin Business Card Case - Retail Value $6 (The info card lists the value as $8)

This is my favorite item in the box! I love gold accessories, and the pop of bright orange inside is great, too:

And it has a magnetic closure to keep your business cards secure.

Sencha Naturals Green Tea Moroccan Mint Mints - Retail Value $1.95

I've sampled Sencha Naturals before thanks to a few other subscription boxes, and I think they are a great natural mint + tea brand.

These are more of a traditional mint - very minty and fresh. And they also included a sweeter/fruitier version:

Sencha Naturals Pink Dragonfruit Mints - Retail Value $1.95

These are made with Sorbitol, Organic Matcha Green Tea, Dragonfruit & Ginger Extracts, Peppermint Oil, and Stevia.

If you like your mints subtly sweet, these are for you! (They aren’t too minty, either.) The Pink Dragonfruit flavor really takes center stage.

Sencha Matcha Latte Original - Retail Value $1.95

I've sampled these matcha tea blends before, and while I normally avoid sugar in any drinks, these are a nice treat!

The ingredients are nice and simple, too: Organic Coconut Sugar, Coconut Oil, Algae Flour, Organic Matcha Green Tea Powder, Green Tea & Vanilla Extracts.

Sencha Matcha Latte Tropical Mango - Retail Value $1.95

And you don't need milk for these - just hot or cold water depending on your preference.

Verdict: This box has a retail value of $67. While the value compared to the $25.99 cost is good, this box is mostly a miss for me. A lot of a subscription box comes down to personal taste, and it's expected that there will be some boxes that are perfectly fine but just not a fit for me personally. That's the case here, but I'm also wondering if this box really feels like it is from Cosmopolitan magazine?

I read Cosmo every month thanks to the Texture app, and most of these items don't seem like something I would see on the pages of Cosmo. What do you think? Am I being too harsh on this subscription, or have they not delivered on your expectations, too?

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? I believe so, but I recommend contacting their customer care to be sure.

Coupon –  Use coupon code COSMOBOX25 to save 25%!

Value Breakdown: At $25.99 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Travel Mug: $11.64
  • Bracelet: $5.82
  • Pen Set: $6.98
  • Card Case:  $2.33
  • Sencha Naturals Mints/Tea: $3.10

What do you think of the April CosmoBox

This is horrible. Ive been a cosmo mag fan girl since i was 11. Thats 16 years now people. Never missed a month. Always check out the site. Love their books and guides, etc. And this box and the past months dont live up to the cosmo girl style or name AT ALL. i would never purchase this box. Its like some months you get decent things but most months you get dollar products saying they are worth more. I cant believe cosmo would so shamelessly rip their readers, fans and customers off like this. For 26 dollars a box there are better boxes out there with better stuff and a lot more value. The random without a reason mix of liter sheiza is bull if im being completely honest and i dont believe anyone just has to have this box and couldnt live without it. And honestly if you subscribe how often do you use what they send? How cheap is the quality? Very? I bet. And how often have you opened the box and felt so disappointed you’d felt like you were basically robbed? I would. Unless you’ve got disposable income where you wouldn’t notice if 20 bucks went missing out of your bank account I’d pass and go to a cheaper better box like boxycharm or go all in for an amazing box like fab fit fun. Cosmo, do us all a favor and get your act together or get out of the sub box game.

I’ve been waiting for this box to improve, but I don’t think that time is coming. So trashy and tone deaf. What a waste.

You would think when this box was being finalized someone on the Cosmo team would have shouted…”Have you lost your mind”??? Who knows. Maybe someone did but lost the battle. Ha!

These Cosmo boxes are such misses for me. WAY too over priced for what you get. The products seem cheaply made and the value the box lists is ridiculously over estimated IMO. And I agree aside from maybe the boss lady plastic coffee mug, none of these seem “cosmo” to me. They need to do way better if they want to compete with the other legit sub boxes.

I would never have that cup on my desk and I am the boss of the office. I think it is so condescending and self important. If you have to shove it in everyone’s face you aren’t a good one.

Hustle darling? In today’s climate there is no way this should be on anyone’s desk, man or woman.

I think this whole box is insulting this month.

Mel

Not too harsh at all. It screams early Jersey Shore to me.

Heather

Fair review, Liz. Also I wanted to add that I associate Boss Lady with what the ladies of MLM companies call themselves. Not for me, the title has been too tainted for me.

Gina

I’m finding it very strange that MSA readers are objecting to the term “boss lady” here and embracing the term “slut” in the comments from the SlutBox review. What???

Reply ButtonReply

Gabby

I find it strange that you think all MSA readers are one person.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle Bross

Exactly. Freaking hilarious. I would never order the “slut box”

Jessica

Who is even the target audience for this box? My industry is conservative, but there is no way I would feel comfortable using those pens or travel mug at work, much less the business card holder. I know the magazine includes sections for the “professional woman” but the pop feminist novelty phrases are really tone deaf.

My two cents…Cosmo is always out of touch. I think that is very obvious from their magazine. This box looks like a TJMaxx clearance section dump. I don’t think it’s well curated or unique. There are a lot of boxes where I want at least one item. This box? I honestly don’t want any of it.

100% agree.

Scream Cosmo??
Sorry, this doesn’t even whisper Cosmo!

So far every Cosmo box has been a miss for me….the February box was the only one that seemed like it was a Cosmo box even if it wasn’t my taste….just my opinion! Agree with you Liz 100%!!

Reply ButtonReply

Gabby

I think that terms like ‘girl boss’ and ‘boss lady’ are patronizing and slightly insulting. How about just ‘boss’?

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria S

Yes!

Bella01

Liz I feel the same, this is a miss for me. Nothing screams Cosmo at all.

Reply ButtonReply

Gina

I say you’re way too harsh on this box, Liz.

Got this box for $19.50 with the promo code, and the value is $67. And I like everything in the box. I’m thrilled.

Reply ButtonReply

Ruth

I agree this doesn’t really look like a box Cosmo put together, but I’m hoping someone wants to trade their “level up” bracelet!

Reply ButtonReply

Bella01

Everything looks good on Liz 👌🏼 Even a plain 15.00 silver bracelet looks good on her. She’s so perfect in everything she wears. It makes it easy to want everything lol

Ashlea

This box never seems to have a hero item. Just a bunch of filler.

Reply ButtonReply

Daisy

I think this is a good solid box for $26. When I think the other boxes in this price range it far surpasses them. And I personally liked everything. Everything is very cute & trendy. I don’t understand the negativity.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle Bross

Because there is no “theme” Cosmo is about being sexy, flirty, and beautiful. A bunch of pens and snacks? This seems more like Town & County

Reply ButtonReply

Gina

Agree!!!

Reply ButtonReply

Amy

It’s a random box of stuff ☹

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle Bross

Seems like a imposter box to me! I wouldn’t want anything in this box if all I had to pay was shipping

Reply ButtonReply

Jackie

You can always tell when Liz doesn’t like something because she literally just describes it with no comment. LOL.

Julia

Liz, I’ve noticed that you capitalize ingredient names when you write reviews, and I wonder why. These are not proprietary names, and shouldn’t be capitalized. Even “stevia” is not capitalized.

Reply ButtonReply

ssk7783

Julia, you might want to ask Sencha Naturals why they are capitalizing those words on the label Liz photographed. Personally, I’m more interested in a blogger’s ability to write in an entertaining manner, that’s clear, concise, and mostly free of errors. I find it silly to criticize whether or not ingredients are capitalized in a list, especially when the list is copied and pasted straight from the source.

Bonnie

I seriously cannot believe the grammar police are trying to make an arrest on Liz.

Liz Cadman

Usually, it’s because I’ve copied and pasted them to make sure I get the spelling correct. Thanks for letting me know – I’ll keep that in mind for future reviews!

Christy

I don’t think Liz is being harsh at all. I don’t subscribe to this box, but I definitely don’t want to. If it weren’t called “Cosmo Box”, I would have no idea it’s affiliated with the magazine. I can’t discern a theme to this box, their curation seems both cheap and erratic, and I have never once wanted to swap for any of the items in any of the boxes.
