Trunk Club For Women February 2018 Review
My month’s trunk arrived to me in its Trunk Club trademark cardboard shipping box fashioned to resemble a suitcase. I am rather fond of the personalized details in their packaging, especially the note from my stylist and itemized invoice.
Here is a close up of the list of items I received and their costs.
Side Tie Stripe Shirt by Michel StudioSize, Size 22W - Retail Value $72
When I initially unboxed this month’s Trunk Club box, I was baffled as to why my stylist selected this piece for me. I like stripes, but I am not a huge fan of pinstripes. Plus, the length of this dress shirt was nearly that of an actual dress. I would never select this top for myself. Once I styled the piece, I decided to try to make it look as close to something Diane Keaton would have worn in the 70s as I could. I think the look came off more modern-day Stevie Nicks (big shock!) than 70s Diane Keaton--- but I ain’t complaining. The fabric has some stretch and the top is rather comfortable. I styled the dress shirt with the matching pants Stefania also selected as well as a glittery turban from Pinup in a Pack’s October box, big sunglasses, and my Bad Sandy from Grease Heels. Ultimately, I liked the top more than I thought I would, but not enough to give it a home in my closet.
Straight Leg Pinstripe Pants by Michel Studios, Size 24W - Retail Value $78
I typically prefer skintight skinny leg jeans and pants, so when I saw these wide legs (straight leg my butt!) pants I was a bit turned off. Like the matching top, though, the pants grew on me after styling them. I paired these pants with my Bad Sandy Heels, favorite vintage style t-shirt, and faux leather biker jacket. I was trying to channel a laid-back 70s Marc Bolan look in this ensemble. Not sure if I succeeded, but I was feeling myself regardless! These pants aren’t necessarily a style I would go for normally, but I do love how comfortable these trousers are! They are kind of like business casual PJ bottoms. I could stand to go down a size (I did advise my stylist to send smaller sizes, but I still need to update my styling profile on the site), but even if I did get the correct size I would pass on these.
Zip Front Chambray Dress by Addition Elle Love and Legend, Size 22W - Retail Value $95
This dress was my favorite piece in this month’s box. The Chambray fabric is wonderfully soft and has a nice stretch. The cut on this dress is incredibly flattering and I LOVE the zip front detail. I love that you can adjust the dress to how revealing or modest you prefer with the zipper. This detail makes it an ideal dress to wear to the office if you are going out after work! I paired this dress with my go-to Bad Sandy Heels and double buckle western belt, but on colder days you could wear tights, booties, and a biker jacket for a fiercely sassy look. Did I happen to mention… IT HAS POCKETS!
Print Bell Sleeve Shift Dress by Glamorous, Size 22W - Retail Value $89
This flowered dress has a 60s/70s vibe that is undeniable. I love the bell sleeves on this piece, but the cut is similar to that of a potato sack on me. Sorry, not sorry. I am not sure if a size lower would work because this polyester dress looks baggy on the model featured on the Nordstrom product pic as well. I liked the print, but the fit did nothing for my frame.
Dolman Sleeve Crewneck Sweater by Sejour, Size 2x - Retail Value $74 (found here for $49.58)
My stylist, Stefania, included this comfortable sweater in this month’s selections. The knit fabric is incredibly soft and stretchy. The sleeves have a slight batwing cut and are immensely roomy. This top could be amped up with a mini skirt, knee socks, and loafers for an edgy-preppy look. I opted wearing it with black pants and loafers for an extremely laid back ensemble perfect for a Sunday Netflix watch-a-thon!
RACHEL by Rachel Roy Choker Neck Top, Size 2x - Retail Value $75
I love the choker style of this top and the opening on both the chest and back. I like the pattern of this top because it looks like a watercolor leopard print. Normally, I am not big on neon pinks combined with black, but this somehow works for me! I paired the shirt with tight black pants, my trusty studded, buckled boots, and my favorite western style belt. This top would look fantastic paired with a pencil skirt, heels, and cardigan for a great office look or a mini skirt and knee-high boots for a sassy out on the town ensemble!
Gabriela Tassel Fringe Earrings by Bauble Bar - Retail Value $48.00
I can’t lie: I am a sucker for a good tassel earring. That being said, these are adorable and make me think of my talented friends that do Burlesque in my city. I just can’t help but associate tassels with Burlesque! These three-tier tassel earrings are precious and could amp up a casual outfit easily, but also would look charming styled with a formal ensemble. My only issue was the baby pink shade; it is too pale and too delicate for me. These come in black and I could foresee me wearing those far more than this soft pastel shade. It isn’t to say I don’t think these are gorgeous, but just not me. Give me something bolder like the versatile black version, mustard yellow, sea foam blue, or a chartreuse green!
Verdict: This month’s selections from my stylist, Stefania, were a step in the right direction. The pieces felt a bit more for me than they have in the past. The Michel Studio Pinstripe set was the dark horse of the box; I really disliked the set till I tried it on. My favorite by far was the Addition Elle Love and Legend Chambray dress, but I could not justify it at the $95 price tag! If you are a Nordstrom shopper, these prices are on point with the brands that they offer. Nordstrom Trunk Club offers the quality of their brands without you having to leave home. It is a convenient service and the thing that always sets it apart is the app for me! I wish other boxes would offer such an interactive app. I often talk to my stylist through it and send her my Pinterest link or examples of pieces directly from the Nordstrom site as examples of what I would like to see in my next box. A feature like that is top notch and helps Nordstrom stand out from their competition!
