California Found February 2018 Review

Instead of a booklet or pamphlet, California Found sends these really cool info cards for each product. They are very nice quality and informative.

The Wren in Black and White Ikat by Kindred Feather

The Wren in Black and White Ikat by Kindred Feather - Retail Value $16

I love this little cotton pouch! I especially love the metal feather zipper pull. It's listed on Etsy as a coin purse, but it is really big enough to be a small makeup bag. Kindred Feather is the brand of Debbie MacLaurin, a seamstress and jewelry artisan working out of Southern California. Her pieces have the boho aesthetic that I love!

So Lit Face Mask

Belle & Beast Organics So Lit Face Mask - Retail Value $16.50

Belle & Beast Organics The Struggle is Real Facial Toner - Retail Value $10

I have been using this toner for a week now, and I have to say I actually think it has helped my super sensitive skin calm down a bit! I'm always so excited when a product actually works! It's probably because of the organic tea tree and aloe, both of which are favorites of mine. I tried the brightening mask, too, and I can't tell if my skin was brighter, but it was definitely softer. It contains lots of good stuff like bee pollen and turmeric. Belle & Beast is the brand of Christy Marderosian, a California artisan who sounds like she struggled with commercial brands for many of the same reasons I do, so she started her own line of organic skincare!

Hot Habanero Pepper Jelly by Burnin' Beak

Hot Habanero Pepper Jelly by Burnin' Beak - Retail Value $10.95

Y'all. This stuff is sooooo gooood. Call me crazy, but I tried it on some fried chicken, and it tasted amazing. I love heat, but it wasn't too hot, and it was just the right amount of tangy and sweet. Burnin' Beak jellies are made in Long Beach, California by chef Tori Kormanik.

Hand-drawn Greeting Cards by ArtSea, Inc.

Hand-drawn Greeting Cards by ArtSea, Inc. - Listed Value $15

I can never have enough blank note cards, and these are so beautiful! They remind me of spirograph! And they are definitely strongly California/sea themed! These designs were hand drawn by artist Chelsea Wilder, founder of ArtSea, Inc.

Shooter Mini Concrete Planter & Air Plant by Momma Pots

Shooter Mini Concrete Planter & Air Plant by Momma Pots - Retail Value $10

I absolutely love succulents, so it was a thrill to add this little guy to my collection! I love this little pot, it's just the perfect size for my new air plant's home, and the design is really elegant and cool. Blaine Tiongson is the "Momma" in Momma's Pots, and she is a concrete artisan based in San Diego.

Opal and 14K Gold Filled Studs by Silver Willow Studio - Listed Value $43

Beware, if you plan to go to Silver Willow Studio's Etsy shop you may end up wanting to buy everything like I do! Nearly everything in the shop is just my style, and so pretty. These earrings are tiny, but the opals are just absolutely gorgeous! I was so happy to get these!

The Verdict: This was my third box from California Found, and just like that, they have become one of my favorite subscription boxes! I am actually having a really hard time deciding what my favorite item is this month. I think it might be a three-way tie between the jelly, the tillandsia and pot, and the earrings! I also cannot help but notice the value of everything adds up to $121.45, which is way, way more than the promised value of $90, and the box costs only $49!!!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the March box. From California Found:

If you subscribe on or before the 30th of the month, you will receive that month’s box.  If you subscribe after the 30th, your subscription will begin with the next month’s shipment.  If we are sold out of boxes the month you subscribe, you will be notified and your subscription will begin the following month.

I signed up after being super-envious of the January box. While this one didn’t *quite* blow my socks off like January, I think it’s a wonderful box and value for all handmade, small-batch items. The little concrete planter is one of my favorite sub box items ever and those opal studs-Gorgeous! Ana, it looks like your air plant could use a good soaking. After looking up how to care for air plants, I soaked mine overnight and it really perked up.

My favorite item is the concrete planter. It is perfect on my kitchen windowsill. But I also loooove the earrings. I put them on when I got the box and haven’t taken them out. They dont irritate and are very comfortable.
