2017_01_Subscription-box-favorites

We're starting a new monthly post highlighting our favorite discoveries from subscription boxes! Here are our favorite items for 2017:

Haley's Favorites:

The Item: Tom Ford Lip Color in Indian Rose

The Cost: Value $16.20 (Full Size: $54)

From: August 2017 Sephora Play! VIB Rouge All Star Edition

Why I love it: I have never tried out any Tom Ford cosmetics, so this is a really exciting sample for me. Especially because the full size is so expensive. I love the packaging of this mini lipstick - The metal case has bold gold bordering and an engraved TF on the cap. The formula is comfortable and hydrating and delivers great pigment. It’s a medium nude pink – I think it’d work for anyone! It's become my most reached-for new subscription box discovery since receiving it.

Benevolent Beauty Box July 2017 Box

Benevolent Beauty Box July 2017 Box

The Item: Moody Sisters Lightweight Moisturizer

The Cost: $16

From: July 2017 Benevolent Beauty Box (Coupon: Use code MSA2017 for 15% off your first month!)

Why I love it: I have been using this moisturizer NON STOP after receiving it and will definitely purchase more if I run out! This lotion has aloe vera juice as its base ingredient and it instantly absorbed into my skin without feeling oily or sticky. It has a light peppermint scent and a cooling effect. I love it as a morning moisturizer as it made my skin super soft and hydrated. I highly recommend this product for my oily skin fellows!

21 Bundles October 2017

The Item: EcoPiggy EcoPacifier

The Cost: $7.99

From: October 2017 21 Bundles (now Healthiest Baby) (Coupon: Use code MSA20 to save 20% on your first box!)

Why I love it: With its curated and personalized assortment of baby essentials, the 21 Bundles box, as a whole, has been my favorite subscription of 2017. It's tough to narrow it down, but this EcoPiggy EcoPacifier is probably my one favorite item received. Why? My baby loves it, as simple as it is! At this point, I couldn't imagine being without this thing, and I'm so glad to have been introduced to it through 21 Bundles. We've tried other pacifiers, but my baby seems to prefer the shape and texture of this one. The box's focus on natural ingredients made it that much easier to be health-conscious throughout my pregnancy, and now, with a 2-month-old.

Ragan's Favorite:

The Item: Cat Dinosaur Costume

The Cost: This was exclusive to Whiskerbox, but the information card listed the value as $45 (may be Canadian dollars rather than US)

From: March 2017 Whiskerbox (Coupon: Use code msa10 to save 10% off any subscription, for life!)

Why I love it: I got this back in March of this year and I thought it was about the funniest thing ever. I remembered it all year! I mean, just look at these pictures. I love how Monkey just stiffens all his legs and lies there, and Mr. Kitty’s belly hangs out of the bottom of the costume. I laughed so much during this photo session.

Mighty Fix July 2017 Home Subscription Box

The Item: 3-Pack Wool Dryer Balls

The Cost: $16.99

From: July 2017 Mighty Fix (Coupon: Use code MIGHTY7 to get your first box for $3 plus free shipping!)

Why I Love It: I have been using these dryer balls since July and have saved money by not purchasing costly dryer sheets. The dryer balls have softened my clothes and its meant to reduce drying time. It helps with static cling and the only time I have static cling is when I set the dryer too high, that’s when I need to decrease drying time or lower the temperature. When I increase the heat, and over dry that increases static electricity. I love how I’m helping the environment by not purchasing dryer sheets and tossing them into the landfill, plus I save money.

The Item: Olight M1X Striker Flashlight with 18650 Battery Included

The Cost: $70.95

From: March 2017 Battlbox (Coupon: Use code MYSUBTEN to save 10% off your first box!)

Why I love it: Since I reviewed this in March, I've been using it regularly in my toolkit and for general use around the house. I took it on several hiking trips as well because it's lightweight and easy to toss in a pocket or pouch. I've only had the charge the battery twice. It's been dropped several times but handled each tumble like a champ. The 1000 lumens can almost be TOO bright sometimes, but I normally keep it at that level because, why not?

Collections by Joya October 2017

The Item: Favorite Fringe Earrings, Gray

The Cost: $58.95

From: October 2017 Collections by Joya

Why I love it: These earrings are hands down my favorite pair I've ever owned. The vibe is fun, with a sophisticated twist, thanks to the hammered gold semi-circles. While I had noticed these earrings on Joya's website and imagined myself sporting them in a different color, this neutral gray hue proved to be exactly what my wardrobe needed—it's versatile, and it lets the earring design make the statement without a bold color taking all the attention.

The Cost: $29.00

From: October 2017 Stitch Fix for Men (Coupon: Use this link to have your first styling fee ($20) waived!)

Why I love it: I received this top in my October Stitch Fix shipment and have gotten so many wears out of it in just 2 months! The color is so unique and the cotton/spandex material is so comfortable, I would even sleep in it. For the price of $29, this one was a total steal and my favorite item for 2017!

Marne's Favorites:

What a year 2017 was for me! Since starting to review boxes back in April I have enjoyed SO MANY wonderful surprises and it was really hard for me to choose just one... so I didn't! Here are my top three, because I have too much love to give:

selenite crystal lamp (turned on)

The Item: Selenite Crystal Skyscraper Lamp

The Cost: Estimated Value $25 (similar size found on Etsy)

From: Wonderful Objects Dreams and Destinies (Coupon: Use code WONDERADDICT10 to save $10 off any subscription!)

Why I love it: The Selenite Skyscraper Lamp from Wonderful Objects blew my mind since I had been literally lusting after one for a while and it was delivered to me as if my mind was read. I switch this on every day in my bedroom to soak in its good vibes.

The Item: Zebra Mildliner Set

The Cost: $5.23

From: August 2017 ZenPop Stationery Pack

Why I love it: The Zebra Mildliner Set from ZenPop Stationery made me squeeeee with joy because I am a big stationery nerd and just love these mildliners in muted colors instead of the neon hues most are accustomed to.

The Item: Mayana Chocolate Mayan Spice Bar

The Cost: $8

From: April 2017 Boxwalla Food

Why I love it: I HAVE to give a shoutout to this Mayana Chocolate Mayan Spice Bar that I devoured in my very first MSA review for Boxwalla and still dream about to this day. I WILL FIND YOU AGAIN, you delicious beast.

Jessica's Favorite:

The Item: Indie Lee Vanilla Citrus Body Oil

The Cost: $36.00

From: January 2017 Clean Beauty Box (Coupon: Save 10% off your first box with code MSA10)

Why I love it: This body oil is one that I have found myself coming back to again and again. It’s a combination of the moisturizing formula, quick absorption and delicious scent that keeps me coming back for more. I’ve almost used up the whole bottle and will have to consider buying more once it’s empty, even though I have many other body moisturizers on the shelf. It’s that good!

Lacey's Favorite:

The Item: Cosmic Blue Love Adrianne Distressed Boyfriend Jean

The Cost: $88

From: April 2017 Stitch Fix Petite (Coupon: Use this link to have your first styling fee ($20) waived!)

Why I love them: These were my go-to jeans all spring, summer, and fall– basically a staple denim for me until it got too cold for the bare knee look. They were super comfortable and the perfect length, and generally easy to wear. Definitely have gotten more out of these jeans than any other item I received in a box this year! I've been on a closet purging kick lately, but I'm looking forward to trying Stitch Fix's petite selection again when I'm ready to add some new pieces to my wardrobe. Meantime, these jeans are away, waiting for spring.

Désirée's Favorite:

The Item: The Haunted Dollhouse

The Cost: $175

From: The Case of the Haunted Dollhouse Series

Why I love it: This tale of murder and madness in old New Orleans held my attention through each mailing. There were many subtle puzzles to solve and clues to uncover. I couldn't help but become attached to the characters and the story of their lives. The pacing was great and the conclusion did not disappoint.

Gwynnie Bee June 2017 Women's Plus Clothing Subscription Box

The Item: Striped Overlay Column dress by Eloquii

The Cost: $64 (no longer on site)

From: June 2017 Gwynnie Bee (Coupon: Get your first month for free, no coupon required, just use this link)

Why I love it: This was one of the first items I reviewed for My Subscription Addiction. I fell in love with this dress immediately due to its awesome 60s aesthetic. I can envision Gidget or Annette Funicello wearing this to an out of this world beach party! I am a big fan of the Eloquii brand because they consistently design quality pieces that are simultaneously quirky, sexy, hip, and retro for all the bodacious plus size babes! This dress has ample stretch and is the perfect length (you will never wonder if your behind is hanging out of this when you bend over). This dress is versatile enough to wear to a house party or at the office.  I wore it to the 2017 Burger Boogaloo as I cried happy tears of joys watching Iggy Pop dance around the stage! I love this dress so much that I ordered it on sale on the Gwynnie Bee site in a smaller size since the one pictured is too big on me now.

Golden Tote $149 Tote August 2017 Women's Clothing Subscription Box

The Item: Ellison Crochet Lace Top

The Cost: $45

From: August 2017 Golden Tote

Why I love it: This is hands down my favorite item from a clothing subscription box! The quality of the top's crochet is incredible and far outweighs the retail value. It's fun to wear with simple denim or dressed up with a full skirt. I hope to have this in my closet for a long time!

blue velvet ankle boots with silver stars

blue velvet ankle boots with silver stars

The Item: Jacinta Bootie in Midnight Blue

The Cost: Retail Value $59.95, VIP Price $39.95

From: November 2017 Shoedazzle (Coupon: Get your first pair for $10 + $4.95 shipping or Get two pairs for $39.95 + free shipping!, no coupon required, just use this link)

Why I love it: I don't think I've ever loved shoes as much as I love this velvety pair! They've been particularly awesome over the holiday season—the silvery stars have a way of making anything from jeans and a sweater to a frilly black dress look festive. My new year's resolution is to wear these groovy boots as often as possible!

The Item: Alien Facehugger Poseable Lifesize Replica

The Cost: Value $60-65 based on similar replica

From: June 2017 A-Box

Why I love it: I've never been more surprised than the reveal of the life-size replica of a facehugger! Not only were the photoshoots a but too fun, but I've got a few extra scares with this item 🙂

Liz's Favorite:

It's pretty much impossible to pick a favorite item of the year for me, but I decided to help narrow it down using this question: what's an item I received in a box that I've been using almost every single day since I got it?

And the answer is:

The Item: The Convertible Brow + Brow Brush from The BrowGal

The Cost: $35 for the palette and $14 for the brow brush

From: May 2017 Boxycharm

The darkest color in this palette is perfect for me. In the review, I even say, "And the pans are a good size for a brow powder – I think this will last me a year!"

So far I've made it to 2018 using this every day since May and I still have plenty of product left!

Thank you, Cynthia, it is! It’s available on their website as well but the shipping is as much as the chocolate bar. 🙁 I’ll have to check out your link to see if their shipping is better. Good looking out!

It’s hard to remember everything I used this year. I have turned Into a bit of a hoarder (not joking) but I’m trying to de clutter and my hoard thinned our a bit after the holidays. Thank you Popsugar and FabFitFun for helping me with gifts!

What I use the most is the GiGi New York Rachel Convertible Clutch from the Fall Box of Style.

Honerable mentions to ModCloth Stylish Surprise. I got 4 dresses and a romper that I actually loved and wore this summer. It saved me a fortune on wedding and shower dresses.

Loot tees and Loot wear for my wardrobe. I love to wear them to the post office to ship my swaps 😁 I actually wear them all the time.

The Blinc eye shadow pallets from Boxycharm is magnificent and I’ll need to swap for another. My most used cosmetic aside from the Becca highlighters.

Yogi Surprise for the self care ♥️ I’ll never quit my Yogi Surprise. It’s like they package a full month of meditation, yoga, and self/spiritual care in that box.

Penny + Grace, BoS, Popsugar, & FFF, for all the jewelry. I wear it all and I wear it often. And the ponchos, scarves and beanies.

Wow apparently I get a lot of mileage out of this addiction. I could go on for pages.

It was a great year for me sub box-wise & I hope 2018 is too.

I loved this question. After loving this newsletter and seeing so many boxes I’m overwhelmed with availability. Never knew so many boxes existed. Love the newsletter. My favorite item is actually two things but both from Birchbox. Trestique highlighter or lipstick queen lipstick/ balm. I use these both everyday and will buy them. I only get beauty boxes but am a fan of several. Thanks for a great newsletter!

I agree, that Trestique highlighter is so good & easy to use!

Love this post. It’s impossible for me to pick a favorite. I can’t even remember all the wonderful items I’ve received in 2017. I’m not sure it’s my favorite item but it’s something I use several days a week…Nuface face wipes from BF. I love the little dots that provide exfoliation and they’re excellent for removing makeup without drying my skin.

Bonnie

Coming to mind right now is the CoverFx Illuminating Setting Spray from Boxy. Despite lots of concern on the comment boards that his would be an oil slick, it’s not. The mist is super fine and it makes my skin look amazing. I didn’t expect to love it this much, thought it might be a little glittery. Nope, it’s the best skin finisher and looks great in selfies and other pics. I will replace this when it’s out.

Melissa

Yes, I totally agree! I use it everyday! And I will repurchase!

That Tim Ford Lippie is so luxurious. I love it and I love the formula and shade.

I remember Jira’s review with that lotion! Love Christen’s earrings and Anna’s boots. I love Eric’s Alien so much of sleep with it on my face just to freak out my hubby. That was a really cool mold.

Bethany

Love this post! I can’t believe you were all able to pick a favorite (or 3)! It’s got me thinking and I keep coming back to the Mer Sea wrap/scarf from FFF. I just adore that wrap and wear it all the time!

Alex

Same! In the house, on car rides, out doing errands. It’s so comfy.

I love that brow powder too. I would never have purchased it on my own, but it’s so much more versatile than a pencil. i use the two darker shades together for the inner brow, then the darkest for the rest.

Reply ButtonReply

Chrystal

ITA with Liz about the brow powder! It has been my daily go-to since I’ve received it and I will be able to go at least a few more months before I hit pan on the darkest shade 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Bonnie

Too funny! I have two of them, one from Boxy and one from BeautyCon, and I think they are so overrated. They are my least favorite brow product I’ve received from a sub, and I love brow powder. These just don’t work for me. My favorite brow product I received, and one of my favorite items altogether, is the Chella brow cream(?) that came in a white pen type case and you dip the applicator into the cap. I have one from Ipsy and one from Sweet Sparkle, both in Taupe, and I love this one! Viva La Difference!

My cat would never stand for me to put an outfit on her. She even bit me once (I think she was trying to play) and I got cat scratch fever. Watch out Ragan!!!

We needed a disclaimer at the beginning so the facehugger would not scare any one when it appeared on the screen. It is one scary item.

Ditto to everything Janet said.

Ragan

You will notice you usually only see the outfits on two cats (old, laid back males) and not on all five of them. There is a reason for that.

Mine too! I picked up another sample with my Sephora points. I never want to be without it.

Pur Soirée Diaries palette from the Sept. Boxycharm. I’ve used it every single day since I got it and have yet to hit pan on any shade. That eyeshadow doesn’t crease or budge at all.
