Luxury Scent Box December 2017 Review
This box doesn’t have a theme because you can choose what fragrances you receive, so each subscriber’s box is unique:
There was a little more information about how to use the holder that comes with your fragrance.
There was also an insert with a little more information about the subscription and also a small card with instructions on how to use the holder that comes with the package.
There was also this card, which I guess is just an advertisement for a fragrance. There wasn’t anything printed on the card indicating otherwise.
With this shipment, I received a holder for the fragrance vial. You twist the top part to raise the fragrance up and turn it back the other way to store the fragrance. This way you can simply throw it in a purse without worrying that damage to the fragrance vial will cause it to empty its contents!
You receive a new case every quarterly; it will be shipped automatically.
Delina by Parfums de Marly – Estimated Value $35.30 (buy a 2.5 oz. bottle for $290)
This is a very feminine fragrance and is totally new to me. It is somewhat floral, but the floral notes are somewhat moderated by the base notes. Notes include Turkish rose, peony, rhubarb, litchi, cashmeran, vanilla, musk, bergamot, petalia, Haitian vetiver, cedar, and incense. (I love cedar, vanilla, musk, and incense, and the florals due provide an interesting contrast to those warmer, heavier scents.) This one is a bit longer lasting than other designer fragrances, with (for me, anyway) moderate sillage.
Verdict: The fragrance I received this month had a value of a little over $35, so it definitely exceeded the cost of the subscription. If you’re looking to maximize value, that’s great, but I also think there is some value in using the tools that come with the subscription to figure out what sorts of scents you like the best. I learned about a new fragrance and a new perfumer, which is always fun.
In terms of comparison to similar services, this costs about the same as Scentbird. You get 9 mL here instead of 8 mL as with Scentbird, so you’d receive a little more product with Luxury Scent Box if you opted for the same fragrance. Scentbird and Luxury Scent Box have overlapping but not identical fragrance selections, so the decision may come to who carries the brands you are most interested in trying. Do note that you have to upgrade to an $18/month plan to take advantage of the full range of offerings from Luxury Scent Box.
