I'm reviewing The Woman in the Window.
The Woman In The Window by A.J Finn - Retail Value $26.99 (On Amazon for $16.19)
Book Summary from Amazon:
For readers of Gillian Flynn and Tana French comes one of the decade’s most anticipated debuts, to be published in thirty-six languages around the world and already in development as a major film from Fox: a twisty, powerful Hitchcockian thriller about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house.
It isn’t paranoia if it’s really happening . . .
Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.
Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare.
What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.
I liked the pacing of this book and found it to be the right kind of mystery/suspense for me = no extreme violence, not so scary I couldn't read it at night, etc. On the flip side, it wasn't a book that I couldn't put down until I finished it (it took me about a week to finish), but once I got to the midway point of the book I was completely invested.
And there were a few surprises I didn't see coming at all! (Also, this book is already in movie development - I'm excited to see it!)
Verdict: The value of the Book of the Month subscription is great. The variety of new books offered is awesome and the prices are still better than Amazon for new hardcover releases. If one book a month won't cut it, you can also add-ons books from previous months for $9.99. I like that you also have the option to skip a month.
If you are considering this book, I recommend it. I found myself practically yelling at Anna throughout the book, but in an engaged and concerned way! 🙂 (And if you are a fan of classic movies, you'll pick up on a lot of references there, too.)
