Each month, you'll receive 4-8 awesomely irreverent items handmade by artists and small businesses. The women behind Smartass & Sass might not take themselves too seriously, but they are serious about supporting the creatives behind the items in their box and paying a fair price for their quality goods.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out our review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This month's theme is "Basic Bitch" which made me let out a sigh of relief because it was exactly what I was thinking when I pulled out each item! Hahaha. Well played.

Wine and Cheese Socks by Living Royal - Retail Value $8.00

There is something about all-over-print clothing items that everyone seems to love, myself included. While this print of wine bottles and cheese wedges are only on the front, these short socks will let everyone know how you roll. They're not the warmest, but these acrylic numbers will keep your bare feet clean after you kick off your heels to stumble home from the work holiday party.

boozy brunch notepad

Boozy Brunch Notepad by Primitives by Kathy - Listed Value $5.00

These long notepads are made especially for lists, my favorite things to write. While I am choosing not to drink this month, I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment here. Whether it be bloody marys, mimosas, or bellinis, day-drinking at brunch is a favorite pastime for all of the basic bs out there, as well as the ones that aren't so basic. Use this list to remind your drunk azz what you went to the grocery store for in the first place.

Totes Adorbs Mood Pencil and Sharpener - Listed Value $1.00

This pencil (made from 30% post-consumer recycled material) is for serious totes adorbs and totally changes color with the heat of your hand. It goes from pink to cream, so you can tell if anyone had their grubby little mitts on it. They've included a plastic yellow sharpener as well, just in case you don't have one.

Rosé All Day Wine Tote - Listed Value $8.00

Quick: what's the best gift that you could give someone you love this time of year? If you said friendship or love, you are wrong. It's booze. My family was never one to drink too much at the holidays, but as the years drag on, we have all clung to wine as a coping mechanism for our dysfunction. Wine is probably the number one gift among my one half of the family, and this is the perfect way to give such a wonderful present. My aunt and cousin are the top recipients of Rosé, so one lucky lady will be getting this in a couple weeks. Filled, of course.

orange pumpkin spice everything mug

Pumpkin Spice Everything Campfire Mug - Listed Value $15.00

This was actually the first thing I saw when I opened this month's box as I said under my breath "Smartass & Sass should change their name to Basic B Box". Thank goodness I wasn't out of line since it IS this month's theme. I actually really love the style of this orange spotted ceramic mug. It looks like the kind of metal camping mug that is coated in enamel, but this one is (hopefully) microwave safe. The info card suggests sipping from this while binge-watching HGTV. Don't mind if I do. Hi, Chip Gaines!

Woo Girl Pomegranate Martini Soy Candle by Basic Wick Girls - Retail Value $16.00

While I don't think of myself as a typical basic b, I DOOOOO love me some candles. This hand poured soy candle smells like my sweaty pillow after a long night of drinking. I'm kidding! That's gross, and this actually smells really sweet and nice, like a pomegranate martini. This pink candle has a burning time of 20-30 hours and comes in a cute mason jar with a teeny martini charm wrapped around the top. This would be a great gift to pass to a close friend who woos with you all night long, no matter how early she has to get up the next day.

Hashtag Cookie Cutter - Retail Value $1.95

It seems like only yesterday that "hashtag" was declared the Word of the Year by The American Dialect Society, but it was all the way back in 2012! Can you believe how long we've been hashtagging everything? Even though I love to watching cookie decorating videos on Instagram, I am terrible at baking. If I were to try my hand at simple sugar cookies, this would be the cookie cutter I use because of the endless possibilities of words to write on the cookie to denote an important hashtag. Then you could 'gram photos of it with #hashtagcookies (or #cookies?)for everyone to enjoy.

Smartass & Sass also included a super cute 18-page gift guide with over 75 ideas for everyone on your list.

Verdict: Smartass and Sass stepped it up this month and included useful items that are also perfect to give away if they don't suit you. Even though I am not a member of the pumpkin spice fan club, I love the huge sturdy mug, and the tote is just too perfect for gifting this season. After totaling up the values, this box came to just under $55 retail with a cost of $41.90. Not too shabby!

First off, Marne, I love your reviews! Your personality just shines through in everything you write!
Secondly, I want to like this box. It’s a toss-up every month though, which is why I haven’t subscribed yet. And honesty the biggest reason is that so many of the products seem alcohol-centered, and I don’t drink (alcoholism runs in the family and I don’t want to take my chances). I just feel like I’d have to gift too many items to make it worth it. The non-alcohol-related items always seem pretty great though!

Caitlyn, I am with you on trying to avoid the genetic propensity for alcoholism. And I’ve started to respond to the inevitable “why don’t you drink?” question, with “why DO you drink?” Shuts it right down. lol Marne, this review is hilarious, I LOL’d several times (as basic b’s do). 😉

Thank ya! I do my best to make you all giggle!

Marne Orenich

Good on you for not drinking, Caitlyn! The negatives can reeeaaally outweigh the positives a lot of times. Totally a valid point about all of the drinking-related stuff. There definitely is a good bit of it.

Kris

Your comment about wine being a coping mechanism for your families dysfunction made me laugh , as I can COMPLETELY relate!! Thanks for the laugh!

I like the mug and the candle but everything seems so random and the price is way too expensive for what you get. PopSugar is about the same price and PopSugar rocked Dec!
