Meowbox December 2017 Review

Meowbox has a lot of exclusive toys that are usually pretty popular with my cats.  From my perspective, it’s nice to see some things that don’t turn up in other cat subscription boxes:

The information card typically just gives a URL for finding out more information about the items in the box.  The picture is adorable, as usual.  This month had a Christmas theme.

Le Sharma Holly Sprig

Le Sharma Holly Sprig – Estimated Value $9

This toy wasn’t available from the Le Sharma website so I’ve estimated the value from reading the size descriptions of their other toys, all of which have a similar felted wool composition. (They’re Fair Trade and eco-friendly, too.) Angus and Monkey were particular fans of this. It’s pretty large – see it in size context with cats below – but not too heavy.

Snowman Rattle Ball

Snowman Rattle Ball – Estimated Value $5

This is another exclusive toy (made just for Meowbox so not available for sale elsewhere) so I’ve used a value for similar toys from past Meowboxes. This does have a rattle in it but it’s not too annoying (and it’s not a bell, which is nice). The outer texture is a bit fuzzy and the cats seemed pretty interested in that. This is small (see it with Madison below) and lightweight.

Crumps Naturals Chicken Bites

Crumps Naturals Chicken Bites (0.75 oz) – Value $3.99

These are little bits of freeze-dried chicken. I like that they have a more uniform size than some other freeze-dried meat treats; they’re also a bit smaller. These seem much easier for my cats to eat than similar products.

Tuna Can Toy

Tuna Can Toy – Estimated Value $5

This is another exclusive made just for Meowbox so I’ve again estimated the value based on toys from past Meowboxes. This is a lightweight catnip plush that is a great size for my cats to toss around. They seem to like the ribbon on top as well as the different fabric textures.

Interactive Wand Toy with Christmas Lights

Interactive Wand Toy with Christmas Lights – Estimated Value $8

This is another exclusive that is not for sale anywhere else, so I’ve estimated the value based on similar wand toys from this and other cat subscription boxes. The wands are little catnip plushes and they are quite securely attached to the string. Sneaky and Angus both enjoyed this quite a lot.

Angus liked the treats.  He is generally willing to try freeze-dried meat, even if the others aren’t.

I was not the least bit surprised that Angus liked the wand toy…

Madison also showed some interest in the treats.

But then he decided he was done with photos.

Monkey didn’t actually eat these, he just sniffed.  That is not so unusual for him.

He did want to rub his chin all over this toy.

Sneaky was quite enthusiastic about the treats.

She also liked the wand toy.

Mr. Kitty is still not quite ready for prime time after his recent eye removal surgery. He is doing OK but we think it is best just to let him rest for now. He goes back for a check-up in another couple of days.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $31 for the December Meowbox. I liked the mix of toy types and sizes, plus there were lots of interesting textures this month for my cats to enjoy, and everything was a good size. The treats were fairly well-liked (my cats don’t often go for freeze-dried meat), so that was nice.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? From MeowBox:

We will send you a box full of goodies for your cat on the next business day, and then the 15th of every month after that.

I hope Mr Kitty is doing well. Spoiling him definitely helps recovery. Years ago my dog Jed had an eye removed, he adjusted very well. Hugs and good wishes to you and your crew. I love the reviews and especially the pictures. Thank you.

You can see a picture of him in his cone on the Pet Gift Box (for cats) review.

I hope he will get his cone off this week. He goes back for a re-check on Friday.

Mr. Kitty looks much better and hopefully he will get his cone collar off in two weeks when we go back for a recheck. (He insists on being spoon-fed, which is kind of messy.)
