My son, Fox is 20 months old and very active. Let’s see what toys this month’s Green Piñata brought!
My first box came with a few different information cards that outline how Green Piñata works. Each card provided super helpful tips on what to do next with my box, how I can purchase toys that I want to keep, a few helpful reminders, and an outline of what is featured in my box this month.
I also received my free USPS return shipping label, all you have to do is package up what you don’t want to keep and take it to your local USPS office. They are also featuring a rewards program if you invite friends to join Green Piñata, bonus!
Hape Happy Noisemaker – Retail Value $4.99
Our first item of the month is this wooden noisemaker. You can make different sounds with this toy by spinning the handle, making this toy great for fine motor and cognitive skills. My son instantly started spinning this noisemaker and loved the exciting sounds it was making! It quickly flung from his hand’s and hit our dog, which he thought was very funny. This might not be the best toy for my busy little guy, but he did have so much fun with it while it lasted. Plus, it was great to see that he took to spinning it properly so quickly!
My son is on a puzzle kick lately so this toy was the first one he picked up from the box! Anything with animals is also a plus. I call items like this busy toys because they can keep his attention for so long. All I do is remove the peg puzzle pieces for him, spread them out on the floor, and watch as he connects each puzzle piece to the correct shape on the board. He loves making animal sounds as he puts the puzzle together, takes it apart, puts it together, and so on. A huge win for both Mommy and Fox!
There is a lot that you can do with this sorting rocket so your little one might need an extra hand or encouragement with this toy. After reading more about it, it looks like it is meant to help your child learn colors, how to stack, and how to sequence from big to small or small to big. This type of toy would have been very helpful to have around a few months ago when we were really trying to get my son to stack more because it really is an important fine motor and cognitive skill! However, this toy now felt a bit young for him as he wasn’t super interested in stacking. Instead, we went over the different colors and shapes, we built the rocket for some of his action figures to fly around in, and then, of course, he loved throwing the blocks into a box. Even though we didn’t use it specifically for stacking, he still had a great time making his own fun with this colorful toy!
This tea set is so beautiful I would have totally kept it for myself! My son has the coffee maker from Hape so I was really excited to see how he would interact with this set. While he didn’t sit nicely and have a tea party with me, he enjoyed pouring cups and taking them back and forth from the tray to his Numma and PopPop (grandparents). He also loved taking each piece one at a time from our living room into our kitchen to put on a counter, that really tired him out! This toy was his favorite from this month’s box!
Verdict: Green Piñata is such a fun and unique way to toy shop! I can’t tell you how many toys I have bought thinking my son was going to love it, only to find it sitting untouched on a shelf in his playroom months later. As parents, we never really know what toys our kids are going to become attached to or which ones they will end up throwing at your dog. Green Piñata takes the guessing out of shopping for toys by allowing your child to play with a few toys a month, and then you can decide to purchase or return which is also quick and easy! While we didn’t keep any of the toys this month, it was great to see my son interact with different educational toys for a few days. For me, the overall value isn’t in what each item costs, but more about seeing how your little one will interact with certain toys before spending the money on buying it.
