Carnivore Club Subscription Box Review + Coupon – October 2017
Carnivore Club is a subscription box that sends a curated package of artisanal cured meats from around the world.
Each month’s box is themed around a different producer that specializes in a particular style of cured meat. Boxes feature everything from French charcuterie and Italian salumi to Spanish chorizo and South African biltong.
They also know what they are doing with packaging! Everything came in this gorgeous red box that I am tempted to keep around to repurpose!
They even get a little cheeky. I love it.
This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Cost: $50 per month with a recurring subscription. (Single boxes can be purchased for $55.)

Carnivore Club includes a booklet that lists the shipment’s featured producers and details what’s inside the box, with some ideas about pairings and more. When I opened the box, I was delighted to see a familiar name, Parma Sausage, from right here in Pittsburgh!
The names of the sausages in the booklet don’t exactly match up the names on the packages, but I’m hoping to pick up my own tasting notes as I eat. I noticed they have a key which includes “Spicy” and “Not Vegan”. Hahaha. No vegan offerings in the box this time. 😉
The back has a couple of drink pairings as well as instructions on how to win $100 credit by tagging your photo on social media.
There’s a card that announces last month’s winner with their photo and caption.
Now let’s dig into the meats!
Mild Sopressata – Buy a .75 lb. piece for $14.25
This is a super nice low-key sopressata where you can taste the black pepper and the slightest bit of garlic included. I chomped on this with some mozzarella and crackers for a mild experience. A meat like this is a staple for any charcuterie board so you can please people that don’t have a more complex palette for spicier things.
Salami Rustico – Buy a .75 lb. piece for $14.25
The booklet considers this salami a gateway to spicier salamis even though this one is still quite mild. Once I swallowed my first bite, I felt a slight bit of black pepper creep up on me, so I can see what they’re saying. Wine and extra garlic are a couple of the ingredients here, which is why it’s so tasty! It’d be really great on an Italian hoagie!!
Calabrese Style Salami – Buy a .75 lb piece for $14.25
This has a slightly more fibrous texture than the other meats. I’m not as into this one as the others, but I can’t put my finger on why. There’s nothing too out of the ordinary here besides some paprika which probably gives it a darker red color. I think I’d pair this with some salty olives to get a bit more going on.
Cacciatore Salami – Buy a .75 lb. piece for $14.25
This one was the first to get demolished when I opened it up, so that should speak to its flavor. You can see the flecks of black pepper and some nice marbling. More marbling = more fat = more yummy natural flavor. Pair this with some dry red wine or a sharp cheese to balance out that fatty flavor.
Picante Veneto Style Sopressa
Oooh- you can tell my those red flakes that this is going to be a spicy little guy. As soon as you taste this you can start feeling the heat creep in and it gets a little hotter over time. This would pair really well with a goat cheese to mellow it out a bit so you aren’t struggling with the spice.
Verdict: At $50 a box for Carnivore Club, I received five really nice size hunks of cured meat which would be more than enough for a party spread. Even though I can pop dahn to the strip to visit Parma Sausage anytime, I loved seeing a hometown favorite featured so that people can taste a bit of a Pittsburgh staple.
