Avid Dresser October 2017 - Card Front

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Card Back

My stylist, Rachel, included a handwritten note telling me a little about her selections for me and mentioned she was looking forward to my feedback. She is awesome and followed up with me to make sure I loved what I received. This month, as you’ll see below, I had some fit issues and Rachel helped me exchange my original dresses for some better fitting ones.

Let’s see these dresses!

First, I took a style quiz answering questions about my size, color and style preferences, for what occasions I need dresses, etc. I also had the option to choose to talk to a stylist directly or not. I would recommend choosing yes because it was super helpful!

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Striped Front

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Striped Side

Avid Dresser Black and White Striped Dress – Retail Value $25? (value based on a similar style)

My first dress was this super-fitted, vertical stripe dress. This material was stretchy and smooth and the lines were straight when I unfolded it. But, when I put it on, the stripes warped with my body, accentuating everything. While I didn’t hate it, I knew I would feel self-conscious when wearing it. Plus, I couldn’t wear this to work. I did like the sleeve length and the midi length of the dress itself. Just a bit too tight for me.

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Floral Front

Paper Crane Floral Dress – Retail Value $65? (value based on similar style)

The next dress was a floral chiffon dress in colors great for fall. I liked it and looked great with my olive boots and jacket. It was way too short to wear without some sort of bottom though. Like, exposed bits short. I tried to pass it off as a tunic with some leggings and just didn’t feel like it looked right. There also wasn’t any stretch in the chiffon overlay which made it ride up anytime I moved my arms.

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Floral Slip

It had a tan slip with adjustable straps which I appreciated so that the dress body wasn’t see through.

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Floral Neck

The mock turtleneck buttoned up in the back leaving a little keyhole in the neckline.

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Floral Sleeve

The sheer sleeves gathered at the wrist with elastic ruching. This same ruching was around the waist which helped to give the dress some shape.

So, after trying on this set of dresses, I contacted my stylist Rachel and explained my fit issues. She told me to send the dresses back (shipping reimbursed) and sent me two different dresses to try.

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Gray Front

JOLIE Women’s Puff Sleeve Brushed Knit Dress – Retail Value $22

I have been trying to expand my wardrobe with longer tunics to wear with leggings or tights for winter. This dress is perfect! It is long enough to wear with tights without worry of showing anything and looks cute with leggings and my tall boots. The fit is great, fitted but not tight. The fabric is a polyester/rayon/spandex blend and is very stretchy and soft.

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Gray Sleeve

Puff sleeves give this otherwise simple dress some attitude.

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Lace Front

Lori & Mari Lace Bell Sleeve Dress – Retail Value $34.99 (value based on similar style)

This dress is totally out of my norm because of the lace inserts and peasant style fit, but now that I see photos, I think it’s kind of cute. The bottom half is so flowy! The fabric is 100% viscose so no stretch, but it feels so smooth and cool. The lace is fairly smooth too. The bust and upper arm area was a bit snug and took a little adjusting to get comfortable. I’ll pack this away for next spring because it isn’t quite warm enough for winter.

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Lace Front 2

Perfect for twirling. I’ll wear some compression shorts under this in case of gusty winds.

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Lace Back

The lace back insert is a fun detail that just peeks out under my hair and shows a little skin. My bra straps don’t show through very much which is great (one of my pet peeves).

Avid Dresser October 2017 - Lace Sleeve

Fun lace bell sleeves!

Verdict: I’m so impressed with the customer service of Avid Dresser! Rachel did a great job of working with me to find two dresses that I will wear and like. Either of these two new dresses with work well for me for many occasions like work, weekends, or an evening out. For $49.99 plus free shipping, I got two dresses picked for me that not only fit well but are perfect for my lifestyle.

What do you think of my Avid Dresser dresses this month?

  1. I think the striped dress looks great on you, but I understand what you are saying! This looks like a great service!

  2. The Jolie Puff sleeve knit dress looks gorgeous on you!

  3. I agree- you could wear the lacy boho one this season with leggings/boots/jacket/scarf- it’s adorable! Seems the stylist nailed it with the second shipment!

  4. You looked great in the black and white dress, but I completely see why you felt uncomfortable in it. I wouldn’t have kept it either if it fit me that snugly.

Having said that, I am completely impressed with their customer service. And those replacements!!! Oh my goodness! Fit is great for both, and you look amazing in them! I really want the first replacement dress for myself. Definitely considering this sub.

  5. The striped dress looks so cute on you! I like everything except for the floral dress.

  6. The black and white dress looks amazing on you! You could have put a blazer over it or something so you’d feel more comfortable in it.

    • Agree! The striped dress looks amazing. I have the same body type so long sweaters solve many problems for me 🙂

  7. @liz
Where’d my comments go??? This keeps happening to me! Ergh! Don’t think I wrote anything whatsoever that would trigger the darn filter!

    • When you post, it says that “Comments may not appear immediately. ”

      Give it a few moments.

  8. I’m a dress fanatic, I practically live in them & I think if you wore some dark(black) thick pantyhose with the purple dress and tall black boots with black leather jacket don’t forget a cool scarf that maybe incorporates purple & black(think:pattern design)u would be totally styling for winter!

  9. The black and white dress was stunning on you, but I definitely agree that if it makes you feel self conscious, it won’t be worn. I LOVE the replacement dresses- the black one is perfect for the holidays and that blue lace one is stunning.

    • Yeah you freaking rocked the striped dress! I’m almost sad that it had to go but I totally agree 100% that clothes should never make you feel self concious. If they do, out the door they go!
