SaloonBox is a DIY cocktail box that allows you to try a wide array of spirits without spending a lot of money buying full-sized bottles. One monthly box includes four servings of cocktails. You'll also find original recipes and ingredients (including spirits).

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Products: Each box contains everything you need to create two different cocktails recipes for two people (sometimes more), including a recipe, alcohol (spirits and liqueurs), and mixers.

Ships to: US only for $12.99

You will find an envelope when you open the box that includes a welcome letter, an ingredient checklist, and the two recipe cards for your cocktails.

Cardamom Clove Old Fashioned

On your recipe card, you'll find an ingredients list, the suggested glass (love that), and directions on how to prepare your cocktail. This whiskey drink was ultra-simple and didn't even need to be shaken. I just had to coat the glasses in cardamom (which didn't use the whole bottle so I have some leftover) and add the whiskey and bitters (which I also have some leftovers of).

On the other side of the card, they include 3 different recipes to make your own syrups that could lend some sweetness to your future cocktails.

I'm not a whiskey fan myself (no brown liquor please), so I had to lean on my trusty roommate Tony to let me know how this tasted. He thought the whiskey was high-quality and the three ingredients made a stellar cocktail.

Juniper Daisy Cocktail

I luuuuurve gin, so I was really happy to see a recipe including it in my first box. I've never had No. 3 brand gin before, but was impressed with the nice bottle. The Dry Sparkling Juniper soda also made me feel very fancy.

Though more involved than the whiskey drink, this gin cocktail was also very simple to make. All I had to do was combine the grenadine, gin, and the juice of one lemon (not included) in a shaker with ice, strain into two glasses, and top off with the super tasty juniper berry soda!

In addition to info about the cocktail's history, they've included directions on how to make your own grenadine for the next time. Excellent idea and so easy!

How pretty is this drink? They suggest garnishing with fruit like strawberry or orange, but unfortunately, I didn't have either on hand. This cocktail was amazing and refreshing. Tony remarked that he could just put a straw into it and suck it down with no problem, and I agree. Looks like I'll have to keep this recipe on hand!

Verdict: My first SaloonBox experience was very positive! Even though I don't care for whiskey, my roommate confirmed that is was a really quality delicious drink that he was impressed with. It was fun to make new cocktails I hadn't before without having to buy full-size bottles of all the ingredients first. I even had some leftover bitters and cardamom for the next time! All of the ingredients they included were very high quality and introduced me to brands I wasn't familiar with. The box (with shipping) costs a little over $50, which makes each drink a little over $12. That's not exactly going to save you money by not going out, but if you're interested in mixology, then this is a great box for you!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. SaloonBox sends out deliveries once a week, based on when you subscribe. Since it's the end of the month, their next shipment will be the October box.

Value Breakdown: At $50.49 for this box, you're paying roughly $12.62 per cocktail.

Have you tried SaloonBox?
