You’ll always get a brief letter and an item list from Dollar Bead Box.

A note on prices: Items like this can come from a variety of different suppliers at many price points depending on how many you buy, etc. I couldn’t find a lot of these exact beads from common sources (e.g., Fire Mountain Gems) and it’s of questionable value to pick something similar because a slight difference in grading or size or material and you are looking at half or double the price (or an even greater difference). Even different colors of the same size and shape of glass beads are priced differently due to materials needed to make the colors!

Please note that no directions are given and you have to supply your own needles, stringing materials, tools, and findings. Lately, they have been showcasing some tutorials on their Facebook page if you are interested in seeing some things you can do with the items, though.

24 x 26 mm Antique Brass Cherry Blossom Pendant

This doesn’t say “cherry blossom” to me but after going through the whole box, this was the only brass charm left, so I identified it using process of elimination. Regardless, I have been interested in the antique brass finish quite often lately, as well as vine and leaf motifs, so I was happy to see this.

26 x 36 mm Magnesite Butterfly

Subscribers could have received one of several colors.  Mine is green.  I have a lot of green in my wardrobe these days so I am going to make this into a necklace (perhaps with a tassel and some gold-tone accents).

1940s-1950s Czech Glass Buttons (2)

I get irrationally excited about buttons, especially ones with shanks (which these have) because they can be used to make clasps for wrap bracelets. I swear I had purchased a whole bunch of buttons with shanks in the past but they all disappeared into a black hole somewhere (you’d understand if you saw my jewelry-making supplies) so when I told my husband about these, he said “how soon until you lose them?” Anyway, I was excited to see these.

10 mm Antique Silver-Plated Magnetic Clasp with Crystals Inlaid

I am all about magnetic clasps lately. So much easier than lobster claws for bracelets! As long as your beadwork is lightweight, a magnetic clasp is an absolute lifesaver. I used this one in my project this month (see below).

6 mm Thai-Style Hill Tribe Pendant (3)

These are pretty tiny and I think they would make excellent charms for a bracelet. I will see if they are really silver or not (it hasn’t been enough time to see tarnish) but I like them either way. I am not a metal snob!

9 x 19 mm Antique Brass Owl Charm

This is very cute. I have a collection of owl charms that I intend to make into a bracelet one day and this guy will go great with some of those. This is a good size for a bracelet or a delicate necklace.

17 mm Czech Glass Table-Cut Dragonfly in Opaque Red with Silver Wash

18 mm Vintage-Style Czech Glass Heart in Opaque White with Gold Wash

Either of these beads would be wonderful as a focal in a bracelet or a delicate necklace. I love both table-cut glass and vintage beads and I think it will be fun to design pieces around these.

8 mm Czech Glass Flower in Hurricane Glass Finish (25)

These are an interesting tortoiseshell pattern. I have seen some interesting ideas lately using center-drilled flat beads like this (hard to describe, but I have something in mind). Just have to decide on a coordinating color and metal finish.

4 mm Czech Glass Druk in Apatite (50)

These are a color that fits nicely into my collection and 4 mm rounds are always needed (they are used in so many patterns with Czech shaped beads, which I also hoard).

4 mm Czech Glass Druk in Peridot (50)

I used most of these in a simple right-angle weave bracelet this month. But if I hadn’t, these would have gone into the stash for use in patterns with Czech shaped beads, as I really do try to keep a lot of peridot-colored beads around (I collect anything I think will look good with copper or brass).

7 mm Czech Firepolished Beads in Ocean Green Luster (28)

Two colors were possible here for subscribers but I do like the ones I received. I don’t have much firepolished glass in this size (you see a lot of 6 mm and 8 mm beads, but not many 7 mm beads), and it is always nice to get something new and/or unusual.

5 x 3 mm Czech Glass Pinch Beads in Purple Luster or Amethyst (50)

Two colors were possible here; I would assume these are purple luster but I could be wrong. Anyway, you can make some cool berry-like motifs with these; check out a free pattern I found here. (If you want more in other colors that Dollar Bead Box doesn’t offer, Fire Mountain calls them “buckwheat beads.”)

5 x 3 mm Czech Glass Gem Cut Rondelle in Beige Opal with Travertine (26)

These could go with the flower beads from above. They are an interesting color for rondelles. I have been collecting a lot of travertine and Picasso-finished beads lately so I have quite a few design possibilities open to me with these.

7 mm Czech Firepolished Crystal in Pink Metallic (28)

Ooh, pink and shiny! This is right up my alley. I have no idea how I will use these yet, but looking through my stash yesterday, I saw a ton of coordinating seed beads.

4 mm Czech Glass Druk in 2-Tone White Opal/Amethyst (50)

I used about half of these in a bracelet (see below) but I have some left for pendants with Czech shaped beads and such. I am totally hoarding 4 mm glass rounds lately.

Here is a bracelet I made with some of the druks and the magnetic clasp. (Whenever I see a magnetic clasp, I always first think of bracelets. You could wear this one so the clasp shows or not, since the clasp is pretty in addition to being functional.)

Verdict: I did not calculate a value for the September 2017 Dollar Bead Box, for reasons explained above. There were 16 items (if I counted right) so if you divide the cost of the box by the number of items, it is about $1.22 per item. I feel like there was a fair amount of coordination this month, with the pinks, greens, and purples all working well together, especially. I also found a lot of great things to add to my stash for future use.

I love the bracelets you’ve been making lately! I don’t know the actual term for them but this one is gorgeous.

There’s not really a term, I’m just doing right angle weave for a lot of them, which is a pretty basic stitch with lots of free instructions available online in either text or video format, whichever you prefer.
