Umaiwa: Tokayaki Flavored Puffed Corn Rings - Value $6 (buy 32 pieces for $11.65)
These sounded and looked really good so I quickly popped a whole corn ring to start snacking. I should have read the ingredients first because these have a very strong fish flavor to them. These are made with bonito fish and shrimp powder, which explains the thick powder covering these rings. They had a nice crunch like any savory snack, but the fish mixed with pork flavor were a pass for me.
Premium Umaibo (steak flavored puff stick) - Value $0.67 (buy a 30 pack for $19.99)
At first taste all I could think was, oh boy this is spicy! If you like wasabi and horseradish then you will love this snack. The powder covering the outside of this puff smells like beef broth and you really get that flavor once you get past the spice. My husband really enjoyed this snack, but it was another pass for me just based on the level of spice!
Mogu-Chew: Grape - Value $0.67 (buy a pack of 10 for $11.95)
I love how these came packaged like bigger pieces of gum which allow you to enjoy one piece at a time. I don’t normally like grape flavored candy, but I really loved this because the flavors aren’t overpowering. This reminded me of the bubble gum I used to get as a kid at baseball games: chewy, sweet, and fruity!
Funwari Cake - Value $2?
This was my favorite snack from this month’s box because it basically is a big piece of chocolate cake. The flavors reminded me of a Hostess Cake that you would get in your lunch as a kid. I got a lot of cake flavor in each bite, so the only thing I would like to see more of with this snack is icing. Other than that though this snack was amazing!
Puchi Ebi Senbei (shrimp crackers) - Value $0.84 (buy a pack of 10 for $8.38)
When I opened the packaging, I immediately got a strong shrimp smell. I love shrimp in all forms, but this snack was a bit much for me. The cracker itself was really yummy and had a strong dried soybean flavor to it, which I loved! The only other flavor you get though is shrimp mixed with a lot of salt. I think this could be good dipped in something like hummus, but overall this isn’t something I can see myself snacking on too often.
Hi Chew Mini - Value $1.76 (buy a 12 pack for $21.16)
The colors of these mini candies are so bright and fun! The best way that I can describe this candy is a mix of bubble gum and a fruity jelly bean flavor. You get a little sweet and a little sour in each piece, or if you eat it like I do, in each handful! This was a really yummy and fun snack!
Fran: Strawberry - Value $2.18
You really get a lot of this snack which each box coming with packets of three biscuits. The strawberry cream on this snack is so rich and flavorful! The biscuit had a really nice crunch and buttery flavor. Overall, it is a very sweet treat so I enjoyed mine with a cup of coffee. I could see myself buying this snack a lot!
Gochi: Blood Orange - Value $2.50
This candy was basically a less chewy sour patch kid. So sugary and so good! I really liked the orange flavor and how big each piece of candy is, you really get a lot in this bag! This is another snack that took me back to my childhood, which I love.
Verdict: This month’s Skoshbox really took me out of my comfort zone with a few of the snacks, while others brought me back to my childhood. I didn’t enjoy the more savory snacks, but I was able to share those with my husband who loved them! The Hi Chew Minis were so delicious that I finished the box basically right away. Hands down, though, the chocolate cake was my favorite snack! A lot of the items are sold online in bulk so it was hard to find pricing for each single item, but I calculated a total value around $17. With how many snacks you get in this box plus the variety of each item, the $12 cost (which includes free shipping) is totally worth it!
