This month's box takes its inspiration from the garden!
Cultivate & Eat Hank Claw (Chili Pepper) – Value $9
Cultivate & Eat Shiso (Japenese Basil) - Value $9
Plants, of course, are perfect for a garden-themed box. The packaging is charming – I loved the way the ties were knotted at the top. Detailed instructions were included for each type of plant. I had a lot of fun planting the seeds and I look forward to watching them grow. I'm especially excited about the pepper, as I've never tried growing pepper before.
Small Metal Tray, 7.5" x 4" – Value $8?
I couldn't find a tray with these exact dimensions online, so the value is just a guess based on the price of larger trays. The quality is solid; I think it might be steel because a magnet sticks to it. I really like how the tray keeps the plants neatly together.
Kikkerland Reusable Shopping Bag, Trassel – Value $9
Kiko & Sven say they chose this bag because it's by their favorite Swedish designer, Lotta Jansdotter. This pattern in blue reminds me of rain falling into a pond or puddle. The bag is a useful size, and it's easy to collapse it back into it's attached pouch.
LuLuLun Plus Lemon Grass Face Sheet – Value $3 (buy a box of 5 for $15)
LuLuLun Plus Lavender Face Sheet – Value $3 (buy a box of 5 for $15)
I haven't tried the lavender mask, but the lemongrass one is the best-smelling face mask I've ever used – and I've tried lots. The scent was fresh and summery, perfect for August. I liked this mask better than some others that cost several times as much.
Creative Co-op Stoneware 3" Cactus Dish – Value $4.99
This tiny dish was my favorite thing in the box! It's printed with a cactus design from Lori Seibert, and is safe for the microwave, dishwasher, and oven. I've been using it to hold little findings for craft projects.
Verdict: The $45.99 retail value of this box hovers right around the box cost of $46.17 ($36 + $10.17 shipping). Although not high, the retail values are not as inflated as in some boxes. I think they did a great job of choosing items that fit the garden theme while also reflecting the Japanese/Scandinavian influence of their shop. These are items I might choose on my own, but most aren't locally available to me. The charming curation won me over this month!
What do you think of August's Kiko & Sven box? Have you ever grown peppers before? Any tips to help them grow?
