Hometown Bagel Chicago Style Bagel Chips, Sea Salt, 2oz - Total Value $2.58

These chips have a great crunch and texture. They're lightly salted with that good bagel taste we all know and love. I must say it's a bit a plain treat and I was surprised to see 2 bags of the same flavor in this box. These chips are a great base for a good dip like a soft vegan almond cheese, hummus, or a tapenade.

These are made from real bagels - you can see that familiar bagel texture here!

Peeled Snacks Organic Apple-2-The-Core, 1.23 oz - Value $2.21

I love dried fruit so I'm always excited to see it in a snack box. These apples are the soft kind of dried apples as opposed to crispy, thin apple chips. They pack a great apple flavor with just the right amount of sweetness and a nice great chew. Dried apple slices are a healthy treat I feel good about. The bag held a little more than I’d want to eat in one sitting so I wish this bag was resealable.

Urthbox-february-2017-0011

The apples are sliced into rings for easy snacking. These remind me of my grandmother who used to slice and dry apples from her own trees!

Vitafive Calcium & D3 Vitamin Gummy Pack, 1 dose - Value $0.50

These gummies do not have a gummy texture, it's something more like a firm but uncooked dough. They are lightly sweetened. The orange gummy had a bit of a citrus flavor while the purple one had a berry taste that leaned a little bitter. Of the two, I definitely preferred the flavor of the orange gummy, though overall I wouldn't choose these again.

Urthbox-february-2017-0014

The gummies are a tapered puck shape with a dusting of sugar on the outside. Check out Ragan's reviews of the VitaFive subscription box!

PHIVEbar, Peanut, 2.12 oz - Value $2.99

I am not a big fan of pureed fruit mixed with nuts and seeds and then formed into a bar. Unfortunately, this was not a hit for me. I enjoyed neither the taste nor the flavor but I know this is a healthy treat full of good, organic ingredients like fruits, nuts, and seeds. I really wish I liked fruit and nut bars like this!

Urthbox-february-2017-0017

Here's a look at all those nuts and seeds.

Unreal Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Cup - Value $1.17

Got a little smashed in the box but was so good! The chocolate was smooth and melty and the almond butter filling was the perfect texture - smooth but firm with a little bit of grain to it. I always try to go for almond butter over peanut butter when I can and this filling made me do a double take - I thought it was too good to be almond butter! I've been keeping an eye out for these at the store.

Urthbox-february-2017-0020

Although a little damaged in transit, this almond butter cup was delicious!

Reach Granola Truffle, Ginger Cardamom Zest, 1 cup - Value $2.08

I've never heard of a granola truffle but it sounded great! Biting through this truffle, i first noticed how nice and smooth the chocolate was. Next, I noticed the ginger taste come through and liked that it was light and not overwhelming. A nice cardamom flavor hit at the end with orange and fruity notes as well. I really enjoyed the complex flavor combinations here. The texture was great, not too crunchy but with a true granola feel.

Here's a peek at that crunchy middle!

Verdict: I calculated the value for this box is at $11.53 with some Amazon bulk buy prices. This is less than last month and is lower than the $12.99 cost for the box. I'm glad this month's box had salty snacks along with sweet chocolatey and fruity treats. I really missed that last month! My favorite items this month were the Peeled Snacks dried apple slices and the Unreal almond butter cup. Both were variations of treats I already love but it's always good to try a new variation on an old favorite. The vitamins and PHIVEbar were misses for me, which proves I don't have the taste for healthy things like I wish I did! I like having this subscription around for my afternoon slump when I'm always craving a litte snack.

Is it 12.99 or 19.99? You quote both prices in your review. I cancelled this box, not too impressive..

If you look on their site, it’s $12.99 a month if you pay for 6 months at a time, but $19.99 if you pay monthly. It’s a pretty outrageous difference, if you ask me.
I also got urthbox at one point, but the monthly cost is just way way too much for what you get. It’s not too unreasonable if you get 6 months at a time I guess, but I wasn’t personally that thrilled with the boxes I got, so it was an easy cancel.

I’d recommend staying away. The box isn’t awful, but the customer service and hoops I’ve had to jump through are definitely not worth it (Not receiving boxes, poor communication with CS, etc). There are definitely better options out there!

Missy

Yeah I was wondering the same thing! I’d be extremely disappointed to spend 20$ and get half that in value! No thank u!!!
