Shtrands is a subscription box that sends you customized hair care regimens from a team of hairstylists and cosmetic chemists every two months. The hair care regimen includes 4 full sized cleansing, conditioning and styling products. Products included in the box should last you two months. At any point in the subscription, you can choose to receive a completely new regimen or a mix of new products and ones you have already received and loved.
Each box sends your products in a strong canvas bag. This bag zips shut and has a little loop handle on the side. The bag feels really sturdy and is perfect for the products. This will also make a really nice bag for traveling. It's big enough for these products and a few other things - you could definitely fit a brush and some other hair products in here!

Each box includes a personalized information card. I filled out a hair profile so these products are based on my specific needs. After you receive your first box you can provide feedback to get the same or different products. My hair is really thick and has a tendency to dry out. My main hair concerns were that my hair tends to get frizzy and the dryness makes any kind of styling difficult. I used to color my hair and I feel like I’m still dealing with the repercussions of that so my main goal was to work towards more manageable, softer hair!
The handwritten information card includes instructions and explanations for each product. Every item in my box was from Abril et Nature, a brand out of Barcelona. I hadn’t heard of this brand before but I loved the sleek packaging and I’m always excited to learn about a new brand! This brand has a lot of different hair care lines and my box contained products from three different specialty lines.
Sublime Bain Shampoo - Value $20?
The shampoo is from their Hyaluronic Line which features Hyaluronic acid, argan oil, caviar extract, and shea butter. I’m a fan of argan oil so I loved the light scent of this shampoo. This shampoo created a small lather and I let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it out. I noticed a difference in my wet hair first, which often feels a little dry as soon as I rinse the shampoo out. The first time I used this shampoo, it felt the tiniest bit smoother but after a week of using this, I noticed a big difference in the smoothness of my hair, before I even added any conditioner.
Sublime Instant Mask/Conditioner - Value $24?
This instant mask is the conditioner that goes with the Bain Shampoo. The stem cell protein and positively charged conditioning ingredients are supposed to strengthen the keratin chain and adhere to the damaged parts of your hair. I let this sit on my hair for a few minutes and when I rinsed it out, my hair felt even smoother than it did after the shampoo. My wet hair didn't feel as stringy and tough as it usually did. Similar to the shampoo, I noticed a real difference after one week. I tend to wash my hair every other day so noticing a significant difference after three washes is pretty awesome!
Gold Lifting Leave-In Treatment - Value $18?
The Gold Lifting Treatment line is supposed to help naturally curly or wavy hair avoid breakage while adding shine. The serum also includes stem cells and the instructions were simple - apply to hair and dry as you wish! This was a really nice addition to my routine for the first couple weeks that I tried the shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo and conditioner were definitely helping my hair but this gave my hair a little boost. I’ve used oils before but find that I can easily overdo it and look greasy. The consistency of this was similar to a gel but without being sticky. I found that a little bit went a long way. I applied a tiny bit to my roots but focused mostly on the damaged ends of my hair. This definitely helped smooth out the frizzier parts of my hair and I noticed that my hair looked a little calmer while I dried it, instead of puffing up like it normally does.
Silk Instant Mask Treatment - Value $24?
My final item was from their Silk line. The instructions were to use this mask once a week. I think this was my favorite product! I used the shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in treatment for one week before trying out this mask. I loved how my hair was reacting to that routine but this mask gave me a serious boost! This line includes coconut oil and keratin. It’s designed for hair that’s been damaged from coloring. I used this the same way as the other conditioner but left it on a little longer than normal. My hair felt significantly smoother after using this. I’ve found that, when I used this once a week, I don’t need to use the leave-in treatment very often - only if I’m planning on applying heat to my hair.
Verdict: This was my first box from Shtrands and I have to admit that I was surprised at the difference this made in my hair! I loved that these products were from a line I hadn’t heard of before and wouldn’t have sought out on my own. I feel like they did a great job of listening to my hair concerns and needs. These products fit my needs and made a difference in my hair quality without adding any steps to my regular routine. The prices were hard to lock down so they’re estimates based on what I was able to find online. The value feels incredible to me because I’ve definitely spent $59+ on one item at a salon before and felt buyers remorse. Getting a whole, personalized hair regime for that price is awesome! Given how often I wash and condition my hair, this box should last me the two months until the next one arrives. I look forward to seeing what other products I can learn about through Shtrands!
