Kosta Boda Hearts Friendship Glasses - Value $40 total

One thing I always appreciate about Luxor Box - almost all the items come in their own packaging, so you can easily gift any item that might not be a good fit for you.

Luxor-box-january-2017-0018

These glasses are designed by Ulrica Hydman Vallien, hold 17 oz, and are hand wash only. Here is a closer look at the design:

Halcyon Days Rose & Gold Bangle - Value $195

Luxor-box-january-2017-0032

Again, lovely packaging before you even get to the item!

Luxor-box-january-2017-0033

(Subscribers will receive this bangle in either cream, black, orange, or red.)

Luxor-box-january-2017-0035

It's made with 18K gold and an enamel inlay. Like all Halcyon Days bracelets I've received from Luxor Box, the quality is impressive!

Luxor-box-january-2017-0034

The bracelet locks with the hinge tab and has the Halcyon Days logo engraved inside.

Here it is on:

Orrefors City Ice Cubes - Value $30

Luxor-box-january-2017-0027

This is the classiest set of ice cubes I've ever seen! (Again, with the packaging!)

Luxor-box-january-2017-0028

If you aren't familiar with these types of ice cubes, you freeze them (for 2 hours) then use them to keep your cocktails cool without watering down your drinks.

Luxor-box-january-2017-0030

And my favorite part? These are the first cubes like this I've found that are dishwasher safe!

North Detail Home is Where the Heart Is Tea Towel (Set of 2) - Value $28

Luxor-box-january-2017-0037

These tea towels are 100% cotton, made in the USA, and measure 28 inches x 29 inches. I think they would make a good housewarming gift paired with a bottle of wine. (And with two, you could keep one and gift one to a friend).

Luxor-box-january-2017-0020

Chando Youth Floral Intimacy Diffuser - Value $69

Luxor-box-january-2017-0022

More lovely packaging!

Luxor-box-january-2017-0023

This diffuser is porcelain, with a butterfly accent, and you apply the oil to the white exposed ceramic part that isn’t glazed. (That part is slightly porous and will absorb the oil.) (Thanks for the heads up on how to use this, M!)

Luxor-box-january-2017-0024

UPDATE: Thanks, Chris, for letting me know that this has a sticky base designed for use in your car!

Luxor-box-january-2017-0025

I think this is a nice diffuser that you don't have to worry about accidentally spilling, and it's a quality piece, but it doesn't fit my decor, so it will be gifted!.

Verdict: This box has a retail value of about $362. I think that value is good for a luxe box! I also think Luxor Box seems to do a good job at finding quality brands that subscribers like and sticking with them. (Halcyon Days is a Luxor Box staple at this point!) I would recommend subscribing if you are a fan of Halcyon Days. With the $195 value of the bangle, it's basically like getting the bracelet at a discount and everything else is bonus!

Personally, not everything in this box matched my style, but I appreciate the quality, and I think everything is always giftable.

What do you think of the January 2016 Luxor Box? What was your favorite item in the box?

I received one that was NOT high quality. The “gold” is now silver-ish on the outside and “gold” on the inside. These Halcyon Days bracelets are subpar and cannot imagine why they cost as much as they do. I will never buy another one of these. I contacted the company and they do not stand behind their product. goodbye Halcyon Days

This box just doesn’t impress me, I am going to cancel my subscription since they don’t impress me anymore. It sucks since I got in at the initial rate.

Rosemary

I am sorry to hear that you have decided to quit Luxor even though you have the initial rate. I am relatively new to Luxor, so I adore everything (especially the ice cubes).
It does sound like the quality/value of sub boxes has gone down overall since they started. Do you think it is because there is so much competition for the contents of the boxes now?

Reply ButtonReply

Daisy

The quality has definitely gone down from when they started, not sure its the competition but more they are now established and have a demand for it. I was hoping this one had better quality than the last two, so I can justify the continued subscription.

Liz if you don’t use your defuser can I buy yours? My email is lari5a at aol.com

Haha – I’m branching out! 🙂 It’s from the January Square Hue box. Review coming soon!

That is the first Square Hue shade that I have ever liked. It is gorgeous.

I’ve been a Luxor subscriber since they came out. I’ve also subscribed to over 45 different boxes in just a time span of 2yrs. Ive now narrowed it down significantly to the ones I really like. My Luxor box is by far one of my favorites and I don’t plan on ever dropping it. You get nice luxury items, things you yourself wouldn’t think about buying, and as a bonus I love the box. I’m extremely happy about the size of the January box and I hope they continue to use this size. I have lots of ways to reuse it! Thanks, Liz for your great review and to those that stated how to use the diffuser correctly! I love mine, it’s peach and the scent is absolutely wonderful! I would have hated to waste it.

OK…this begs the question: What subs have you decided to keep?
I am swamped with cosmetics and polishes, so much so that I usually send full-sized products as extras these days (and I give tons away to friends, too).
I LOVE my Luxor sub, and I am liking LLL & FFF at lot. I kept up my Ipsy because it doesn’t cost a lot, and its fun. Probably keeping Julep because of the level of customization. But I am probably going to let the rest slide.
I would greatly appreciate your opinion on what subs are keepers.

Wow, 45 boxes in 2 years. Impressive!

Is this box still available for sale?

Wait a minute…. those ice cubes are dishwasher safe?!?!!!!

Well that changes everything! I’m off to either swap or buy some now!

FYI, there are several brands that sell these cubes for significantly less, with nice packaging (and dishwasher safe). In fact, there are several sets of 8 stones (with box, bag, and tongs) for less on Amazon.

Hey Liz- Just so you know, the information given in the review regarding the diffuser is NOT correct and could create a mess for those who follow it. I hope no one actually removes the pad and pours the oil into the base as it says here, because that will only create a mess and waste your product. The oil doesn’t actually go in the base at all. To use this correctly, you simply pour a few drops (depending on how intense you want the scent) onto the white exposed ceramic part that isn’t glazed, like the actual butterfly and scrolling/design area on TOP of the unit. It’s slightly porous there (whereas the glazed part isnt) so it absorbs the oils and gradually releases and diffuses the scent. The bottom part is sticky so you can mount on car dash or wherever you want it to go, so it helps to secure it and lessens the risk of shattering if it were to fall due to it being porcelain/ceramic and more fragile than a typical plastic or cardboard car diffuser. That little oil bottle could last a lonnnggg time depending on how sparingly you use it. And FYI you can also change scents once the one you added evaporates. This is how these diffusers really work. Please let your readers know this so they aren’t misadvised or misled. Hope this helps. 🙂

I have used almost 1/2 the bottle of oil and the only time I can smell it is when the oil is wet. M have you had success with the scent lasting? I am applying the oil correctly.

Reply ButtonReply

M

I haven’t run into problems and typically prefer these kinds of diffusers because I feel they throw better than most of the reed types I e bought. But there are many variables, like the oil quality/strength and even temperature/climate. I’ve noticed it doesn’t smell as noticeably when it’s colder than when it’s hotter. Humidity can be a factor as well because it can affect the porosity of the unglazed material and whether it’s also absorbing moisture from the air. Does the oil you have smell strong on its own? Is there another heavily fragranced oil you can compare it to? I’ve even used parfum oils on these types of pieces, where I enjoyed the scent but not necessarily to wear. Another point to remember is to adjust your expectations based on where you plan to use this. This one is marketed as an “intimate diffuser” which I think Luxor went with because they knew it could potentially sound cheap or less impressive or less fancy to simple call it what it is- a personal car diffuser. A car diffuser is specifically designed to be used in a small (err… ‘intimate’) space, so it wouldn’t have to necessarily be crazy strong, oil wise. And in this case the fragrance supplied isn’t a necessarily a heavy concentrate. But the oil concoctions used in many car fragrance diffusers are actually really strong, more heavy duty mixtures that you wouldn’t want to risk skin contact with. Like the glade or air wick liquid in the plugins. Those are a lot more strong (and actually quite toxic) than an essential oil so please keep that in mind and be careful. I think it is an adorable piece, I just think many overlook it’s potential because they may not know what it is or how to use it properly. The bottom sticky pad really shouldn’t have even been removed as it is in the pic- because if people see that and think they’re supposed to do that, it will obviously lose some of the sticky power, so if they re-stick it and then apply it to their car or wherever, it has already lost some of its original integrity, so it won’t stick as well anymore. Like when you peel back a bandaid to peek… it won’t ever stick as well anymore. I’d really recommend if you’ve mistakenly done this and plan to stick it to something, to reinforce it with a few dots of glue to help support the adhesion between the ceramic piece and the bottom grippy pad. There is no reason to have removed it in the first place. Hope this helps and sorry if this comment is too long.

Oops! Thank you so much for letting me know. I’ll update the post. I am not the diffuser expert today! 🙂

Eryn PS

Liz, if it doesn’t fit your decor then you could use in the car, or work bathroom, etc. I have one very similar to this that I use in the area where we do charts, etc at work…I think a nice invigorating scent helps to uplift everyone and it creates a very serene atmosphere!! Anyway, just an idea?!?

J

Am I the only one who thinks everything here is overpriced? The items are nice but realistically speaking, it’s not very difficult to find quality items that are very similar to these for a much more affordable price. Good review, but Luxor has not convinced me to sign up.

Reply ButtonReply

Steffy

Nope. I was thinking the exact same thing, seriously? $69 for an ugly oil diffuser? I don’t like or wear yellow gold so any sub with that is an easy pass. Seems way overpriced with nothing of interest even if it was reasonably priced… ok, maybe the ‘ice’ cubes but as someone else said you can get a larger set of them way cheaper elsewhere. The review is always the most interesting part of this box, lol!

Claire

I’m honestly not impressed with this box at all. Towels and glasses? Feel like they are the fillers of the box. Luckily I singed up with their bonus gift, which was an amazing Rose et Marius gift set, that totally made up the value of the January box. I hope Luxor box could come up something much nicer next time.

Michelle

Really!

The bangle might be a proper price because it’s 18K gold.

Other than that, I agree.

Reply ButtonReply

Carol

The bangle IS made “with 18k gold,” but it’s 18k gold plated, not more! Just to be clear; a solid 18k bangle would cost closer to $1,000!

AmyM

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Nice items, but nothing in these boxes every “wows” to the point where I’m even tempted to sign up.

I think the diffuser is actually supposed to go in your car. The bottom has plastic and when you peel it off it is sticky so it mounts to your dash. I love it!

Reply ButtonReply

Rosemary

I wondered why its so sticky. However, I am going to try these with cedar oil in the wardrobe. To be honest, they are not my style, but if it means that they stand out so that the don’t get knocked off a surface (thank you sticky bottoms) they will work just fine.

monah

I know this is small but wouldn’t the smell be too strong in a confined space like a car? It’s really cute but not $69 worth of cute.

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Ooo!! Thank you for letting me know. I’ll add that to the review. I totally missed that!

chrisandrobwatson

It was really easy to miss! With children and dogs I’m always looking out for things that won’t make my car smell like… well, kids and dogs. 😊
