If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: It is not a typical subscription; each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it. You get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (The surprise items are completely different from the pieces you pick from). For the $149 tote, you pick 2 items, and get 3-4 more surprise items based on your style profile.
However, for January, they released blowout mystery totes and major boutique deals in lieu of their usual monthly collection release.
Every month they design a new tote, too. For these mystery totes, they used up their extra totes from the past. I ended up with another one from December 2016.

Striped Drape Front Tee – Value $30?
This tee is comfortable and easy-to-wear. It’s just a little short on my torso, but if I wear a cami under it, it would be totally fine!
Chris & Carol “Love GT” Tee – Value $30?
I adore Chris & Carol tops because they are always so soft and drape so well. Plus, every one I’ve tried on before is a nice, longer length for me. This one is flattering and I love repping some Golden Tote love.
¾ Sleeve Cross-Front top – Value $40?
This is very different than my usual style and I probably wouldn’t have chosen this for myself, so I’m happy to be pleasantly surprised now that I have it on! Creams and off-whites can be hit or miss on my complexion, but I actually like this one – especially for summer! The material is light and breathable, too, so I’ll be saving this for some warmer weather.
Suede Jacket – Value $50?
This is another item that I wouldn’t have picked out for myself! It’s a faux suede jacket that can be worn open or tied shut. This is soft and has a nice weight to it, and the color is gorgeous. It’s definitely something I don’t already have in my wardrobe. I can see this being great in the Fall.
And here’s how it looks tied shut. Since it is faux suede, I carefully steamed this jacket. The material refused to completely release the wrinkles from being folded when I was steaming it. Hopefully once more will get it, and then any future wrinkles won’t be as severe as these anyway!
Little Black Shift Dress – Value $40?
The last item in my mystery tote was this great black shift dress. It has little slit pockets on the front hips, and the proportions feel just right. This is a very versatile piece and can be dressed up or down.
Verdict: All in all, I had fun with this Blowout Mystery Golden Tote. Because these totes are pre-packed and not selected for you according to your style profile, I was prepared to get some items I wouldn’t normally choose for myself, which means there was some more risk than typical Golden Tote orders. But I was really quite happy overall, especially with the more casual tops. The value is definitely there, at $40 for a 5-item tote? That’s $8 per item, essentially! Fantastic.
