The bag included a list of items in the box.
A note on prices: Items like this can come from a variety of different suppliers at many price points depending on how many you buy, etc. I couldn’t find a lot of these exact beads from common sources (e.g., Fire Mountain Gems) and it’s of questionable value to pick something similar because a slight difference in grading or size or material and you are looking at half or double the price (or an even greater difference). Even different colors of the same size and shape of glass beads are priced differently due to materials needed to make the colors!
3 mm Czech Fire Polished Beads in Pumpkin
3 mm Czech Fire polished Beads in Matte Opaque Blue
3 mm Czech Fire Polished Beads in Matte Ruby Marea
3 mm Czech Fire Polished Beads in Crystal White Luster
I like all of these colors a lot. Pumpkin is so great for fall. The opaque blue is really pretty. Red is my favorite color so I think the matte ruby marea beads are lovely. And clear/crystal finish beads are always great to have on hand.
4 mm Czech Fire Polished Beads in Matte Purple Iris
4 mm Czech Fire Polished Beads in Hyacinth
4 mm Czech Fire Polished Beads in Matte Dark Bronze
4 mm Czech Fire Polished Beads in Sienna Travertine
The bottom three strands coordinated really well this month (I thought). That can happen from time to time, but don’t expect it. I like to think of this more as a “stash building” subscription. Anyway, I used the hyacinth, dark bronze, and sienna travertine beads to make a bracelet.
I know you can see some of my stringing material here. I used nymo thread in a color that was, in retrospect, too light. And, my technique was clearly a bit too loose. But, not bad for my first attempt at right angle weave. (In my search for ideas for the beads in this box, I happened upon “Around the Beading Table,” which has lots of great tutorials, many of which are free, so I thought I’d provide a link. Also, yay, patterns with drawings instead of videos!)
Verdict: I did not calculate a value for the October 2016 Dollar Bead Bag, for reasons explained above. This is one of those subscriptions where you know in advance what you are going to get each month (only the color is a surprise). It works out to $1 per strand, and I think that is reasonable. These strands are a little shorter than what you’d get at Fire Mountain Gems, for example, but the prices are also lower. This is a good subscription if you are looking to build your stash.
Please note that no directions are given and you have to supply your own needles, stringing materials, tools, and findings.
